Free The Cobra MKIV

Sharing is caring Spiridon, didn't your parents teach you not to be greedy with your toys?

This is the stuff of grown ups, special offers for real money. Buying something exclusive means exactly this. Didn't you parents teach you to respect other people's purchase?

There are a lot of people who want it for everyone because then FD could balance it better vs other ships.

The ship looks brilliant and has it's charm for sure. I use it a lot but mostly as a mission hobo ship. It would be nice to have it opened up though.

I'd just like access to it because I think it looks quite cool. Don't think I'd actually use it for anything though.

You are not losing anything (of value*) if the Cobra MK IV becomes available for everyone.

*Except for whatever dubious emotional value one may have for that exclusivity, which I would roughly translate as "I have a thing that you can't have, loser".

Some people are just so overly attached to marketing strategies and 19 pounds value virtual items it hurts.

Well everyone's different I guess...
Well I know now...

But arguably it does have a value - it was part of an (at the time) expensive upgrade.

And it doesn't matter if it's a digital or a physical reward.
It doesn't matter either if a lot of us wouldn't care if everyone had access to it.

It's simple really. You can't advertise and sell something as an exclusive, then make it ... not exclusive.
There are consumer protection laws to prevent this.

The fact is that existing players were encouraged to purchase Horizons early with the incentive that the Cobra was an exclusive in-game ship.

So that's it - it was sold as part of that limited-time package on the store, and the exclusivity is legally binding. And I hate to say it, but because it was advertised as an exclusive part of a package, it may also mean that it can't show up on PS4 or future platforms either. (they come with Horizons so no chance to sell the pre-order package ... but I'm no legal expert)

FD painted the Mk IV into a corner and there's nothing else to discuss really.

Apart from all the angst it has caused, and will continue to cause, it was also a really daft idea to restrict the availability of a ship that you then might want to sell cosmetic items for. Hopefully for that reason alone they won't do this again!

You're right of course, and it's pretty sad that you are. mistake from the start.

i would like them to open up the MKIV purely for selfish reasons.

The more people who have access the more people will find out it's an awesome ship and so FD will give it more paint and ships kits!!!!

the cobra mkiv didnt you get it for buying horizons before they made it a seasons pass? i cant remember but i think thats how i could buy mine. i got a gold paint asp explorer paint job when they turned horizons into a season pass rather than a separate version of elite.

I'll sell you mine! You cannot fly it of course but send me your requirements for the paintjob, ship name, ID, and outfitting and I'll send you a picture!

Chris Roberts detected. :D

Exactly right on both counts.

Those without the Cobra Mk IV are not missing much at all. The second the C Mk IV was made generally available, the threads to 'fix' it would start. In light of both of these points; FD can do what they like.

Shame they didn't make it available to PS4 peeps early buyers like they did with the XBone.

The did say however that it was exclusive and a big thanks to early adopters of Horizons so they are going to look daft to make it available again. One of my accounts doesn't have one the other two have their pretty red (pink) repaints for the GF to use ....

Maybe they could auction-off access for kiddies-in-need or summat?

I have access to it and would gladly see it available for everyone : it's been a long time and I probably used that one once or twice anyway.

No.

It means I have something which was offered as an exclusive item for an expensive upgrade in a limited time offer.

I did my part of the deal, coughed the real money to FD instantly. I want them to stick to their part of the deal too.

I would roughly translate it as "sorry mate, you were not quick enough". And if FD breaks their part of the deal, I won't go to any "special offers, this time only" from them ever again. Won't be a huge loss to both sides, but when it comes to real money deals I don't tolerate the Breach of trust.

Sorry, but nope. When every place, dust, base, rock, valley looks the same(

Never understood why people make that claim.

@Op - I see no harm in releasing the MKIV, we've had early access to it for over a year now. It's a great ship, although it's a good idea to at least tweak the engines through an engineer. It is basically the heavy 4x4 version of the MKIII, rugged and a very good small pad multirole ship.

I was just a little late in buying Elite and Horizons and the Commander's Pack to get the Cobra IV, and it wouldn't bother me half as much if it weren't listed on the website shipyard, as if it were something you could buy.
Of course, the Dolphin and Beluga are also missing from the website, but at least those are available.

Add to that that NPC's in Cobra IV's are something fairly common, and I'm going to side with "Yeah, free the Cobra IV already".

Perhaps it would be in keeping to make it available from Jameson Orbital only.

It's a fair claim after the beige plague set in. Stuff used to be varied, like your old screenshots show. (2.0 beta in one of them!) But that's really not the case anymore. :(

As for the cobra iv. Meh. Most of those who want it would never use it and if they did, would be sorely disappointed.
