Star Citizen Thread v6

A thing that I notice more and more is the ongoing argument about past promises and announcements which are being drastically changed or dropped alltogether versus the defenders stating that the scope of the game changed or new technology was introduced. Adding more stuff and advanced technology obviously makes a lesser game because......logic or something.

What I find rather interesting in this is that defenders counter these accusations and complains by saying "Its a different game now, whatever was said back then does NOT apply anymore" which basically means that Star Citizen.....the game people believed in and supported based on the 2012 kickstarter is NOT POSSIBLE anymore and this only has taken 140+ more millions and 4 years to figure out. What a joke. So all the past things CRoberts sold us to be in the game, all the past accomplishes and promises actually become WORSE and LESS the more time passes. Usually this doesnt have to be a bad thing. As development changes over time you can realistically expect the whole thing to become bigger, more complex, better BUT with Star Citizen what we get is the mention of a MVP, reduction of old goals or continuious no-shows of stuff that was intended to be out by 2014. How can this even be defended? I m just making the logical step and continue on.....

when ONE promise is drastically changed or "doesnt count" anymore because time has passed....
that means that.....
ALL promises and statements are subject to change or termination.

This would really worry me to be honest because it just means that the chance of actually getting my hands on the dream game that I picked up at 2012 is getting less by the day and every new announcement makes it more unlikely that anything will be accomplished. The term "MVP" by itself should be frightening especially when coming from CRoberts who simply doesnt do such language (using it is just a sign hes protecting himself legally) and the constant delays and no-shows of anything except for cinebox movies is even more telling. But somehow the fans manage to keep all the bad things of the project...downgrading, drop of features, delays in their head together with the old and outdated "Star Citizen will be a game which has never been attempted before" promise as contradicting as both statements are...how that for mind gymnastics? :)

Do we know what's the top speed of Dragonfly, though?

Good point, I went with an average speed based on the SRV in Elite but looking at this QA shows an SCM speed of 180 and a cruise speed of 300. Using the lower end we get 618km dia. and with the upper speed 1031km dia.

Commandos will be saying "WOW 3hrs!?, that's massive!"

And mindblowingly boring too. Because we already know that the moon-lite will only have a handful of handcrafted POIs at best which might be looking great but at the same time the whole moon is a big level of NOTHING. Yet people who bash ED for being "shallow" are getting excited over this. Its hilarious :)

From the recent reddit thread, fans are claiming that 5-10 systems instead of the promised 100 is a good thing!!!

So less is best? Really? Are you sure your not talking about a Shopping Mall instead of a Universe?

Of course it's a good thing. Now you wouldn't want 100 systems at launch, there would be too much to do and you'd get confused. With 5-10 you are nicely focused, all the players are located in the same lulzsystems and the griefing can be nicely contained.

 :p

It's as designed, CR is such a visionary! He knew we wouldn't want more content! And Procedural Generation is only around the corner! We are releasing this in TWO WEEKS!! :D

Don't forget that each player plays on different level. Meaning I might play slow so 10 systems would keep me busy. But another player would breeze through faster.

Lol Chief :) My sarcasm is wasted on you :) That or you have the dryest sense of humor ever :D (no offence meant).

Yeah the cognitive dissonance is fantastic.

Let's see how much this will be confirmed when 3.0 is released. The images on derelicts ships impressed me. As for the planets in the ED, it is already a certainty. They are really empty and completely uninteresting, really a crap so far. Not to mention the beigefication that they can not even fix.

They explicitly claimed they would not use PG. Thats not overselling the handcrafted bit, its straight up nonsensical lying.
So my second statement applies. How did YOU think they were going to be build 100's of planetary systems, by hand, without using PG? Surely you've either played or seen ED and what it's systems look like, and what planet surfaces are like. Assume for a moment that SC would have exactly the same as this at some point in the future, how did you think they would do all that by hand?

Genuinely want to know.

I had no idea. Not being a game dev I trusted what I was being told (and no, I hadnt played ED at the time, it not being out then). Now I know better
I worry about those who are now being taken in by the lies.
Try as you might, I will not accept it is their fault.

Genuinely, it was said by CR himself. The low number was justified for the hand crafted locations.
I remember that in the beginning he said that PG was the evil and that only handcrafted things look interesting.

apparently he later corrected that he doesnt know if other people are working on levski.

Still thats quite worrisome statement either way.
Dev's not knowing what is being worked elsewhere. Meaning that they could be still doing double duty on certain tasks (remember that kotaku article).
or they know but are pretending that schedule has real dates in it.

Will made that statement not knowing that Delamar had been moved to the Stanton system for 3.0...his understanding was that the system Delamar and Levski is located in was certainly not in Stanton and therefore not in the 3.x series of releases.

If you read further down that particular thread, the drama just kinda bleeds right out of the apparent revelation...unless you're just plain looking for one :)
