We're actually paying to have no colour (white) lasers and engines?

Actually I enjoyed old-school MUDs quite a bit.

But that's beside the point. You get good graphics by buying the game. Want to customize colors or have a silly bobblehead? You can buy custom eye-candy if you want. I'm perfectly fine with that, please let go of the ridiculous argument that the game is somehow incomplete if you don't shell out money for purple lasers instead of the default.

Bit of a strawman that. Aside from having already paid for everything from KS, 'Everything in the game will be aquired by playing it with in game credits' I find the level of nickle and diming for the smallest of customizations to be mean, stingy and money grabbing.

Customising the appearance of our avatars so they look better is a big part of many online games. Usually this sort of thing forms part of the gameplay, its to EDs detriment any customisation is hidden behind a paywall. The games that charge for every little thing are free to play. Last time I checked ED is not. Considering the dodgy networking they've used to cut costs I happen to think they are taking the mic.

Wait, straw man argument? After you just compared this game to a MUD to make your point?

OK, whatever, I just don't get why you feel so entitled to free graphics customization just because you paid retail price for the game. I've played games since they were invented, and it just doesn't work that way. You do get to customize your avatar as part of the game, but FD has made clear from the beginning that there would be micro-transactions for customizing ship appearance but that they would not do this with gameplay elements. And no, yellow engine exhaust has nothing to do with gameplay. Do you really feel that you have the right to demand that FD give you fuzzy dice or whatever the current eye-candy demand is for free?

I work as a programmer, and believe me, you'd be shocked at what it costs in the real world to have even a small change done because a few customers want something custom-tailored to them.

Bit of a history lesson:

Kickstarter campaign 2012, this is a direct quote

- Will the game be free to play after initial purchase?
- 'Everything in the game will be purchasable with in-game Credits, earned from trading, bounty-hunting, etc.'

Take a look for yourself if you don't believe me: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous/faqs

Even if we accept cosmetics as a way to fund the game I still say charging people for basic colour customisations is taking the mic.

So no entitlement, I'd just like to receive what I already paid for when they were on their knees begging for support during their crowd funder. Failing that a few colour customisations thrown in is asking too much?

The DDF also spoke about ways for FD to make some money as they go. It has been established for a long while, before release, that there would be extra bits available for purchase. Those thing, for sale, would only be cosmetics. Your internet lawyer-ing fails to bring that point up. Everything that matters, ships, weapons, Modules, and Modifications are available through in-game currencies. As was discussed.

B.T.W. I am not fishing for a link. This will not come as a surprise to anyone around here.

Donating to crowdfunding is an investment, not a purchase, you are not guaranteed to get the exact return that you expect. Customizations beyond what is in the game at release is not something that is normally expected. Expecting that you can have the game customized for you in any way that you want just because you donated to a Kickstarter campaign is entitlement, I'm afraid.

I think we shall have to agree to disagree. However, I'll be sure to update you after the court case ;)
