Engineers Have you opened all of the (current) engineers?

Yeah did exactly this myself yesterday. Shinrarta is my base and I've got the Vette and Conda at the CG. Needed to go see Bill for a large focused G5 TLB plassie for the Vette so built a quickie DBX at Jameson's (DBX has a large hardpoint or I would have used my trusty Asp).

I don't do any combat in the DBX so no weapons fitted, purely an A to B craft. So I'll max it's jump range (I've only at a 44% roll on the FSD so that will need revisiting unfortunately). Handy ship to have now that it's jump range has been buffed! :p

A few people have been saying they haven't bothered with Col Dekker. I should point out that the description for him mentions that he will introduce you other engineer, as do Didi Vatermann and Broo Tarquin. Getting Col Dekker now might save some time later when you really want to access one of the new engineers...

Also, the recommendation to unlock Palin by flying out 5000Ly then suiciding is throwing away a lot of exploration data that can be used to get very quickly allied with permit-giving factions (Alioth Independents and Sirius Corp come to mind). There are several other permit locked systems that exploration data would be good for too, not to mention you can sell the exploration data at several engineers to quickly upgrade access.

Totally agree with you about using the exploration data. I did this for accessing Felicity when engineers first became available by dropping 25 mil of exploration data (that was before the exploration data buff) on her door mat but if the distance back is too far for some players, it's a valid option... Albeit a self punishing one...

TBH, I'm surprised that fdev included this element in the engineers. Forcing you to smuggle illegal goods and use black markets. If you wish to try and play strictly within the law, then that locks you out of that part of the engineers tree. I can get the point of fdev trying to broaden people's game play, but like you I think it is going too far to force you to include illegal game play mechanics. It's a game, so I'm not beating myself up about it but I do understand where you are coming from on this one.

To be fair, it's not the fact that a couple of them are so locked. It makes sense that some of the engineers are criminal and you'd need to get involved somehow. The issue is that they are at the beginning of a tree and the only way to unlock some corporate and military engineers later.

It's like a company advertising for a high trust financial manager and saying only thieves need apply.

One thing that I noticed in the DBX is that somebody from Lakon stole a whole shipment of DeLacy computers for the build!

It's exactly the same asset as used in the Conda.
