Do we have a ETA on the cure for the beige plague?

100 pages. Well done everyone.

Can we nuke this eyesore of a thread now?
Oh no you don't. Not without at least one more colourful meme!

That's a very good question and something I'm personally wrestling with, as I'm currently very bored exploring with how the galaxy is rendered. I'm not sure how long I'll last, or if I even really want to attempt it. Planetary exploring is (overall) at it's worst ever right now in my opinion. Sure you can still have fun on ice and rocky worlds, but man the HMC/MR's are nearly worthless for exploration since 2.2, and they are about half of the landable worlds out there, and when you explore a couple dozen systems in a row and all you find is beige, it's just so incredibly discouraging.
It starts at system map level. Honk, charge FSD, check out the map, see 10 identical planets, sigh, shake head, next system, repeat.

I'll give the trip a go though, because I'd like to do my first circumnavigation in a group of explorers.
Good call. When clowning around on surfaces with others, planet surface colour is less of an issue :)

Very true, but on a trip like the Dead End's there is a lot of solitary exploring in between the group events, and honestly that's the exploring I used to look the most forward to. As planets are now I'll most likely just be buckyballing my way from waypoint to waypoint, ignoring most of the landables and simply looking for interesting system layouts, probably pushing out into the fringes here and there. Sightseeing, but not much exploring. That eliminates an awful lot of how I prefer to play the game though, and it's why I've been exploring less and less since 2.2, to the point where I haven't been far outside the bubble for months and haven't been playing much at all. The galaxy is the reason why I play Elite Dangerous, without variety out there my ambition is derailed. I miss how it used to be a year ago.

I think I need to just play other games until Frontier gets this sorted out, no matter how long it takes. On the plus side if it's not fixed for 3.0 then I'll be saving some money by not buying it!!!

Oh, but if they will sell the beigefication correction on a brand new DLC.

I'm done with this thread now but it has left me with a very negative opinion of the way FD responds to players. I realise that they can't respond to all requests or questions but this thread has been on the first forum page for ages.

Well played FD. I have little doubt that your strategic silence in this thread has really irked a lot of people.

Someone could make a millon dollars doing a movie about the contents in this thread alone. "The Beige Plague" - A mystery about space colors and the people fighting for the truth....

imdb 9.2

Considering that they have responded to other threads on the front page with far less activity and number of participants during the same time frame, it is very hard not to reach your conclusion.

Their silence in this case is beyond deafening, and seriously disappointing. [down] [down]

Hi guys,

Sorry to hear that you're irked by this. It's something that has previously been discussed previously, but I'd like to just reiterate the points.

The development team are aware of the issue of course, as it's been mentioned many times in the past on the forums, reddit, and even livestream Q&As. The issue is a complex one that - from what I understand discussing with the development team - was initially intended to improve the game's performance. The dev/art team have been looking into solutions for it and will continue to investigate it further going forward. We cannot provide an ETA, but unfortunately it will not be in the short-term.

I'm glad you didn't not choose the easy option, but working towards a proper solution.
As suggested by many, a livestream or Q&A session about the Stellar Forge itself would make a lot of people appreciate the complexity you are dealing with.

There's been a livestream in the past (during the pre-Horizons build-up) regarding terrain generation on the planets' surfaces and the tech/science that goes into that. It's noted! Maybe it's something we can look to feature in the future, but that's a different discussion :)
