We're actually paying to have no colour (white) lasers and engines?

i wont unsub becouse im interested by your interest. im not angry about it but you sure seem to get angry about ppl that have a diferent opinion of your own.

Can't agree there I'm afraid...

Point me to a post where I've suggested anyone happy (or unhappy) to pay for such features is at fault.

Meanwhile I'll happily point you to a number of posts using loaded and confrontation terms by individuals seemingly unhappy that folks even dare even discuss this topic... ;)

My point is that it is the same outrage every week when we know it is not going to change. Seems like fruitless complaining to me, and there have been a couple of "I hate Frontier" type posts in this thread indicating the anger coming from the "I want free cosmetics" is shall we say, more intense?
Fair enough... But where is the outrage? Personally I'm confused by this continued path down charging for seemingly more and more minor things, but that's hardly "outrage" is it :)

I do see a number of individuals seemingly storming into this thread and criticising folks for daring question the matter though and using some rather questionable language/terms...

Not naming but posts between 109 and 111 are indicative. :)

On a side note, in an attempt to get this thread back on topic...

I wonder if it would have been an interesting option to instead allow the kind of stuff we're seeing as minor pay options, instead as in game features to be earned, and then outfitted to your ship.

A number of times folks have suggested there should be a number of software slots available in ship computers to put in optional features/software - Docking computer being one for example - You have wonder if weapon or thrust "modulators" could have been circuits you could have fitted too.

Not keen on derailing the thread further :(

But I would say with those posts, only one of the three seems in anyway "emotive", and that seems more of, "this is the tip of my personal iceburg of issues with ED?"... Note: One even specifically uses the term "slight gripe".

Maybe discuss further via PM?

so why even opening a thread? shouldnt you be in some filosofy forums trying to figure out why ppl are shalow and buy things they dont rly need. cause this post makes no sense.

now saying this post makes no sense doesnt mean im angry at you, it is just my opinion of it. and telling ppl to ignore if they find it irrelevant is the same that ppl tell you ignore the white cosmetics if you think its irrelevant.

I've already state my view a number of times? So not sure what the confusion is... eg:-

I couldn't careless about £X. But I'm interested in this continued trend of charging for ascii characters displayed on the screen, and the colour of things...
I'm confused by this approach, and simply wondered if anyone else had a view on it...

Huh? You're using loaded terms? Where have I suggested people are wrong in paying for things? Where have I used any term such as infer people are "shallow"? This is not the point of any of my posts... (I'd hope)

The only time I've suggest people should ignore this thread is when they've seemingly come in simply to 'criticise' those individuals taking part in it, with seemingly no real attempt at actually taking part in the discussion/topic itself?

Can we move on?

Since so many people have customised ships, I still have a basic one with a Black Friday paintjob. No extras bought, so it's pretty original in itself :)

Can we move on?

To keep it on topic, I have said many times that I have no problems with paid for cosmetics and if anything, I would like to see more - including licensed skins. For example, my T7 is currently in Vibrant Red bought for whatever the pack costs (lets say £5 because I can't be bothered to look up) but I would have happily paid more for a single Eddie Stobart one (circa £10).

To see an example of cosmetics done well, I would point to Home on Playstation 3 (sadly, the servers are now switched off). At it's peak people were spending around €300 per person per month, and it was highly profitable for them. Unfortunately, in a reorganisation the product management was transferred out of SCEE (the creators of it) to Sony US and it started to die.

In my opinion, FDev should have aimed to have more cosmetics earned in-game, while keeping the premium ones in the store. For instance, we could unlock skins for achievements such as reaching Elite, getting high rep with the federation, getting an actual mug for your cockpit in Hutton... Unfortunately the most basic colours are already in the store so it would be harder to implement. At this point, as I've said earlier in this thread, cosmetic customization in this game is a joke. I would not complain if this was a free-to-play game, but it isn't, and it also has a full priced expansion (I'm not complaining I had to pay to Horizons, I'm complaining that I had to pay for the game, Horizons, and on top of that I'd have to pay extra if I wanted to paint my ship blue, something that in most other games where you can customize your character it comes with the game by default).

Golden, chrome, medusa, flag skins? Fancy name decals-erm, plates? Sure, put them in the store and charge for them. Basic palette colours like blue, red, yellow or green? Add those to the game by default or as unlockables with credits/achievements, please.

Well we get decals for hitting Elite (and the lesser ranks :)) but I take your point. I'm not really a fan of Steam style achievements in ED (I know that horse has bolted with the consoles having them), but if there was an annual Wiccan Ware race (an old FFE reference) which awarded a trophy to the winner which could be mounted on your dashboard or similar, I'd have no issue with that.

OK I really don't want to get into politics, but I'm an American. I have a collection of handguns and a license to carry any of them mostly anywhere. And I hear gunshots so regularly where I live that I can tell a .22 from a 9mm, and I know the distinctive sounds of shotguns and rifles. Just from living downtown. It has gone a bit too far, I'm a small-time gun nut myself and even I'm tired of guns now.

Good choice - not a fan of politics myself, a fellow American, veteran, gun owner, CCW holder, and I can also differentiate gunshot sounds pretty well myself, but mainly because I live in mostly farm country, am an avid hunter, and spend a good bit of time at the range every month. But I certainly do understand your plight as well, and that's a large part of why I live in farm country over the city. But this has a lot less to do with politics or even gun ownership and a whole lot more to do with certain societal values (and the lack thereof), and certain mindsets that have no place in civilized society.

Stay safe - on and offline.

Were actually paying to have no color (white) lasers and engines? Really? Ok...
Original topic. Kinda sounds like you just don't like white and are surprised people would actually pay for it over another color?

What's different with white vs any other color cosmetic for sale? All colors are just 0-255 in the R G B fields to a computer. The science of color is irrelevant.

Is this more about why charge or why do people pay for colors (not being biased to white, which is the same as any other)?

How many would pay for clear? I'd love to see the salt there for pay to win stealth ships.

Cosmetics are a good way to make money for a dev. Player optional.

I would really like to see more limited editions, or play based reward items...

For me it just seemed to underline paying for very minor things. I can understand paying for a skin, which has involved an artist ensuring it "fits" the ship etc etc. Or likewise a ship kit... But for me, some of the these more recent things such as changing colours:-
a) Seems a bit too "charge mentality".
b) Means loosing the ability for the colours to actually be used to mean something. eg: A thruster colour goes red when an engine's damaged etc etc...

ps: As I've said before, I have no issue with folks wishing to pay, just voicing my opinion/view.

Maybe £5 for a spectrum of colours may have been perceived to be better value.
