This is really off topic but since you asked...
First thing you need to bear in mind is that Elite is not EVE Online. Elite is pretty unique in having the one universe, one BGS, three modes but having said that, those "nodes" you mentioned that EVE online has? Those are regional servers, just given a different name. So EVE Online has the architecture I described.
CGs:
Imperials want a station, Feds want to stop them, we've seen this a million times. What can the Feds do to stop it? Nothing. Just think of a system, being blockaded by the Feds trying to stop the supply getting to the station, to STOP their ENEMY from getting what they need? Its a very simple mechanic. You would then have the ability to blockade systems without it being pointless due to invisible supply from solo..., traders could then hire protection wings (2 new features) to get them through.
You still have Solo, people who want to play in Solo still can, they can still wing up and PVE together, they still get the CGs and participate the same way they do now with the outcome only effecting their version.
To start off, I'm a very introverted person. That doesn't mean I'm shy or am otherwise adversed to playing with other people. I just means I don't feel the same drive or thrill from doing so. If and when I'm presented with the opportunity to play with others, I'm more than happy to engage. But after it's over I need to recharge. It's draining rather than energizing.
The Architecture you described was and i quote: No more playing with friends in another country, you'd be restricted to those in the same geographical area as you.
Just like Eve this is entirely untrue as, again; you could play with people from anywhere in the world. Nodes helped solve issues with lag and connection stability, not divide people.
Im glad out of my rather long post though this was the only issue you had an argument against and its still incorrect.
Blockades don't work the way you think they do, in this game. It's a completely ineffective technique, not because of Solo, but because of instancing. You can't blockade everyone, because even in Open you won't see or interact with all of the other players in Open. Many of those players will be in the Xbox or PS4 instances, so you won't see them either. This is fundamental to the P2P design of ED. The only way to "win" a CG is to participate, not form a blockade.
FD has said that they will not break up the BGS into separate groups, which would lead to differing states for the galaxy. Imagine trying to segregate GalNet based on multiple galaxy simulations, not just 3, but 9: Open, PG, and Solo, for PC, Xbox, and PS4. It's just not practical.
Well, that last is not correct but you would know that. You see, I wrote out a long and technically correct reply to your question and then deleted it because, you know what, I do this stuff for a living and I just can't be bothered to argue the point. You are probably just going to argue on other points that make no sense and I'm just not interested in educating someone who appear to be arguing for the sake of it.
Let me reiterate, Elite is not EVE Online. There are technical issues that make a client server architecture difficult with the one universe, one BGS scenario.
If you want to learn more about Internet client server architecture I suggest you search the Internet for suitable article on the subject and then, when you have that knowledge and some experience, then maybe we can discuss this again. But remember Elite is not EVE Online. Repeat this mantra until it is fixed in your mind. Jut because EVE Online solved a particular problem one way does not mean that it is a suitable solution for Elite is a client server architecture.
Again we are off topic and I'm going to stop here, we're probably getting up the moderator's noses with this and I'd hate to get on T.j's bad side.
I play solo just because people suck.
Don't you just hate the way some extroverts feel that they just have to 'bring you out of your shell'? Pop that bubble! Open yourself up to the world around you! Argh!
Fortunately my Girlfriend, who is also my wife, is also introverted.
Waffle? That's a good idea. Excuse me for a moment...
As the title says, I play on Solo Play, and I am not ashamed to admit it.
As a result, I generally tend to be more selective about how and when I spend my time, and who I'm spending it with. On top of that, my internet connection is less than stellar, with a strict data cap and high average of 600ms latency times.
Yes, this means I miss out on the vast majority of stuff that happens in the game that the community stirs up. And I do feel like I just missed out on something great sometimes. But every time I go into Open Play I'm constantly worried that I'm going to be plagued by players or groups of players that do nothing but harass and bully.
I'm not opposed to engaging a bounty hunter or pirate player in combat. If they win and I have to pay the rebuy costs, so be it. It was still a fun experience. But I read the forums. I keep my ear to the ground when it comes to gaming. I know all too well the horror stories that come from games like EVE: Online and Elite: Dangerous. I know that there ARE effectively in-game groups of players that practically live in these games and run it like a mafia or cartel.
When I play games, nothing gets to me faster than when I die to the bull that I had no chance against. As I said, when someone beats me in combat, I'm fine with it. But even in Solo Play, the vast majority of the ships I've lost haven't been lost because I lost a fair fight or because I crashed into something. They've been because of bugs and glitches. Like the NPC's 1-shotting me just after the engineers went live, or when I spawned inside a wall when I load up the game. Stupid stuff like that, and I'd really, REALLY rather not add yet another dimension to that kind of stuff going wrong. And that's not even counting the fact that I'm still not convinced Solo Play should be affected by the online community.
If this game had a real offline mode, I'd play it.
I dunno. As I go back and read this post, I realize it came off a lot more negative than I meant it to. I'm not even really sure I conveyed the reason I started the thread.
I guess the TLR version of it is that I'd "like" to be a more active member of the Elite community. But all the bull that kinda comes with that is just too draining on me. I enjoy it from time to time, but it's never long before I go back into my Solo Play shell. It's just too much.
I've been playing the Elite franchise since the original, and love the story, lore, and all of the meat the franchise has to offer, but with Elite: Dangerous and it's community driven events, I just question humanity, and wonder if it's really worth the effort.
Extremely exaggerated is also correct, the odds are so very slim to actually run into a griefer, in fact a lot of times I barely see PvPers in Open at the CGs, let alone the smaller subset that would be called griefers, and when I do there are enough players around that the chances of being pulled randomly are still slim. Furthermore by having a decent loadout (which need not be engineered, see the video link I put before) you reduce the likelihood of even becoming a target further down. And if you do get pulled a proper loadout will see you get clear.
Now if one wants to be in solo or private that's their choice, but this claim that Open is a place where everyone is out to kill you is laughable.
I disagree entirely with your premise.
If I go to a CG in Open with an Anaconda or Cutter full of trade goods, what do you think the outcome will be?
And why should I should carry weapons when I don't need them for trading? They add weight! I don't need the best shields either or the fastest drives.
But if I want to play in open I do, because some kid with his mates in a wing of FDLs or whatever will interdict and hit me some engineered weps that disable FSD etc etc. And why? for laughs. And the chances of it happening at a cg are high!!
Nope, my advice is stay in a PG or solo, where you get to dictate how you play.. Not the kiddies.
Amazing how experiences differ. Are you flying a shieldless Cutter? You don't need to carry weapons unless you enjoy fighting back, there is no way a wing of FDL's will be a threat during a cooldown unless you are shieldless or packing shields that will barely survive a hard landing.
As Jason Lighting says, it is entirely your choice to fly in PG, but either you have the worst luck/loadout, or you are over exaggerating.
Am also a little confused by the amount of people that say they only fly PG/Solo, yet seem to be experts on what life is like in Open. Sounds more like they where ganked once or twice in hours of play, then claim they where ganked on every run.
More a case of ganked a few times and said no thanks to the kiddies.

I don't understand why people even bother with CGs, when their rewards are so low at the top 10, you can make more in 15 minutes of doing scan missions. CG rewards need to be increased 10-fold at the minimum in order to be remotely worth doing.
Besides the fact that Open is nearly unplayable with all that lag and disconnections galore going on. The Glide mode servers disconnect more than 90% of the time, literally.
