When was doom 3 BFG released 2012 ish. Did they plan for VR then? if not then maybe it is not necessary to plan for it from the get go for it to be adapted later on.
maybe what SC are doing will allow VR to be added later
Any thoughts?
so sorry for my part in the derailing!...... but a few things... doom3 BFG WAS meant to have VR support. indeed some of the code is baked into the core game before modders got their grubby mitts on it.
but the main thing is, there is nothing in doom 3 which is inherantly bad for VR. its slow paced and more importantly no head bob or effects which are bad for VR (SC OTOH is full of them)
also its such an old game that, it runs really really high frames on modern machines..
the fmv had to be monkied about a bit and are the worst parts in the game... but they had to be decoupled from your head as taking control of the game from you in VR is the biggest no no going.
i hope you are right regarding adding VR later. but everything i have seen and played in SC so far scream at "terrible design" for a VR game. CIG are in a tough spot.... if they come out and officially can VR many (well me anyway) WILL get a refund and they will get called out for abandoning stretch goals. OTOH if they genuinely do not think VR is a worthwhile addition to a space game, and they are happy playing 2nd fiddle to elite dangerous then, adding VR is a lot of work for something you do not believe in.
to ignore VR i think is a mistake. time will tell.
TBH i think Oculus or valve could / should approach cig here.... i am sure an injection of facebook/valve cash may show CIG the light to the advantages of VR... and make it an oculus/steam timed store exclusive.
its about time valve splashed some cash into vr .
