Frontier Expo Speculation

Even if I have to admit that I can't feel the same excitement as I did before Horizon, I sill dream of big things for Elite. :p

Okay, I'll bite! Here is my wishlist of what I would LOVE to see from the Expo:

  • In game screenshots of the new anti-beige improved stellar forge. Lots of pics of colorful, detailed HMC & MR planets that rival the best that even Space Engine can create!
  • A detailed report of the upcoming Crime & Punishment + Karma system.
  • Frontier's plans to improve Exploration mechanics plus new exploration content (see my signature for what they would show!!!)
  • Frontier's plans to improve Trading by implementing a trading computer integrated into the ship computer which stores the commodity prices of the last ten stations you've visited, and can calculate profit margins for goods in your cargo hold at those destinations
  • Frontier's plans to improve Bounty Hunting by implementing a "Sighted Criminals" board into Galnet. This would be integrated with the new C&P system. Whenever a very highly wanted player is spotted by security forces the wanted player will be noted on the board with a time and location, allowing player bounty hunters to constantly monitor this and respond by flying to their location to hunt down wanted criminal players. This should enable regular player PvP all over the bubble!
  • Frontier's plans to improve Mining by implementing a mining SLF and an improved refinery where you can set slots to a certain ore type only, so you now don't need to babysit it constantly.
  • Frontier's plans to improve Combat by adding more variety to the types of CZ's and implementing new kinds of war signal sources.
  • A preview of both the Panther Clipper AND the Imperial Explorer, a medium exploration focused ship meant to rival the Anaconda as the most capable explorer in the game.
  • A preview of a new mining SRV sporting increased cargo space and a surface drilling rig. To go along with this surface mining will be revealed, AND so will a planetary core sample feature, where explorers can search planets to extract core samples and return them for profit (they get more valuable with distance from SOL).
  • Various other teases for core game improvements coming next year!

Ah well, it's nice to dream sometimes!

Don't forget SRV mining .. with delivery limpets that ferry processed ore to your ship.

With the new paid content for Planet Coaster being properties of Universal, I think that may bump up the likeliness of Jurassic Park being the new IP for Frontier.

Something about Season 3 would also be nice. The name of the season, at the very least, suggesting what we might expect of content.

Ah, man that Blade Runner game in the 90s was fun! :)

And I'd love it if that's what FD were working on, lol.

I've actually been thinking about it a bit more today. I'm now more inclined to think that the new game won't be either of a theme park management or spaceship-based sci-fi game. That doesn't mean it won't be Jurassic Park of course, just not a Planet Coaster like game. Why? Because either of these would only serve to compete with their existing IP for market share. Probably not an optimal move I'm thinking. Also why I'm thinking it won't be Firefly or Battlestar Galactica based.

So I think the key here, before speculating on the IP itself, we probably need to pin down the most likely genre that would diversify from the existing current IP Frontier has in place.

Are we talking an MMO (in the 'traditional' sense rather than the Elite: Dangerous approach)? A 1st or 3rd person shooter? An RPG? Must say I have no idea really - but I am thinking that something from these genres is on the cards. Maybe based on Stargate, Bladerunner, Planet of the Apes, Raiders of the Lost Ark, James Bond, Mission Impossible, Madagascar, Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, maybe even something like Ice Age or Despicable Me (and I'm assuming the Marvel and DC IPs are off the table too)....remembering though that it's supposedly also an ENDURING movie franchise that's in play (http://www.cinemablend.com/games/1622439/planet-coaster-developer-signs-a-deal-with-a-hollywood-studio).

No matter - no doubt Frontier are smirking to themselves watching us speculate on the possibilities while probably being wildly off the mark.... ;)

A completely rebuilt Graphics Engine to enhance Elite Dangerous in VR. (Bit Like they have done for EVE: Valkyrie)

I don't understand what there is to enhance. ED for now is the best VR esperience there is out there.

I'm curious but not excited. It's better to be excited once I learn what they have in store for ED, then to be excited over something that isn't real. :p
I don't dare to guess. I'll just wait. :)

Alien Life Guest Speaker

Possibly ET, or Boba Fett. I guess Bobba would edge it, as he has his own spaceship and gets around a lot. Indeed, he even has intimate experience of the stomache of a Sarlak. ET on the other hand tends to get lost...

Not only is it not free, but you dont have to be a Founder to get one. Just stump up the £69.99 (aka 70 quid..).

Makes me wonder, are you becomming a NEW founder by buying this ticket level. Only 200 of them available it appears...

Not too sure on JP being the IP. From Wiki.

Jurassic World Survivor

By June 2014, Cryptic Studios was developing a third-person open-world video game, similar to H1Z1 and based on the 2015 film Jurassic World, in which the player would assume the role of Owen Grady. The game was being developed with the Unreal Engine 4 game engine, and was nearly finished when it was cancelled in May 2015, after the closure of Cryptic Studios' Seattle location. It was to be released on Steam, Xbox Live, and the PlayStation Network. In June 2016, it was reported that the game was in development by a different studio, with Perfect World Entertainment as publisher. In October 2016, Perfect World reserved a web domain for the game at JurassicWorldSurvivor.com. In December 2016, the company filed a trademark for Jurassic World Survivor.

As much as I`m a salty former fanboy, I still wish I could be there. Unfortunately my co worker`s wife will be having a baby somewhere around that period which means I`ll have to be at work.

Good luck to FD and a lot of fun to the participants!

Enjoy
