Lead Designers advice on dealing with griefing (part 2)

I'm not sure I understand what point you are making.
Is it really hard to read? The FDev states they arte testing the blocking system. In order to test this, they are trying it out on griefers and KNOWN CHEATSTherefore, they must be aware of KNOWN CHEATSMy poitn is, why are they allowing KNOWN CHEATS to be in the game at all???

Ok, fair enough.

FDEV are not testing (that I know of) I'm testing the block function, I'm just one player doing it off my own back as the block function has been through various states of broken since the 2014 release of the game and now seems to be working as always intended.

I've been repeatedly accused of being involved in a conspiracy with FDEV/mods but I'm pretty sure the people who said that were joking, I certainly was whenever I mentioned it.

I'm testing it on griefers as they are easy to find at the CG's (and I want rid of them).

There are unfortunately known cheats in the game, there was an issue with some PVP groups exploiting the engineers for "god-rolls" which went on for some months before being exposed, once exposed the cheats had their exploited modules removed along with other engineered modules of the same type as a punishment. They were allowed to continue playing the game in open though. It was limited and the vast majority of the player base are legit.

Edit : here is a link to a thread discussing the cheating with posts from FDEV staff.

IF, and that's a very big 'if', FDev had absolute proof of cheaters being in the game, I can see a very good reason why they might possibly allow them to remain and that is to test out the efficacy of the forthcoming C&P system.

Note I am not saying that they are doing this, just that it is one reason why they might.

The list of people who had their modules stripped would be a very logical starting point to test karma effects.

Myself and several others are actively looking for Stigbob at CG's, so we can can become added to his block list. Although from what he has said, he loads in and blocks any names he doesn't like.

Great game feature..

But isn't that the block feature working as it's meant to be used.

I take offence at someone or something, all be it a name I find offence who then I deem to be a tool for using such name , then surely the block feature gives me the means to block people like that who I dont want to play with.

Open or PG, if I dont want to play with someone why the hell should I, and look we have a block feature to do just that.

So no PvE players used the exploit when it came to light? I declare shenanigans on that as some admitted to trying it and their modules where removed as well. Do you block those players when you see them? They are cheats too.

Just passing by to say I love you guys

Okay, theres a block function. How about people use it and stop harping on about it? I get it, people want to gloat, the same thing happened with private groupers. Considering the plethora of ways people can safe space themselves I wonder why they appear to be so spiteful and petty.

'hahaha, I can block you now..' Its all rather childish and pathetic.

I would never have made a whole thread myself. However, someone else did... Thought I'd chime in with my experience.

I'm not gloating. I'm just stating facts. FD put this feature in deliberately. It's not an accident. They intended to give players this kind of choice.

And, they thank you daily for your contribution to the salt shaker.

I've no real problem at all with a PVE player who just tried it out, it's not like that theoretical PVE player cheated in secret for months on end and maybe scored some utterly undeserved kills whilst telling everyone to git-gud.

Also your cunning plan for me to block the PVE player is hampered by your lack of having thought it through, to be specific the practical consideration of how do I get into the same instance ?. I'm not likely to find a PVE player ramming landing ships in a CG.

I am blocking combat loggers. I just do not want to play with crap-tier, thats why.

Makes perfect sense to me, personally I don't care about clogging and think it's funny when people pull the plug.

But these things are entirely subjective and the only person who should decide is the individual player, I have always regarded cheats and griefers as crap-tier.

If this thread has already made you feel very cross indeed scroll to the bottom and read the disclaimer.

I've found the advice of Sandro Sammarco ED's lead designer on the griefing issue from way back in 2014. The block function (which has recently been improved) was developed specifically to deal with issues such as griefers. There are a lot of misconceptions about the block function such as why it exists, when it should be used and how it works. Hopefully this thread and especially Sandro's comments can help clarify some of that.

Sandro Sammarco on using the block function to counter griefers in 2014:...........

In short : we made a PvP server with a little workaround against PvP. We are currently making another workaround against PvP.... thread n°115557833412

About What Mr Braben said about danger, I heard whining from Earth to Mars when IA went dangerous some time ago. So IHMO it's now irrelevant.

As long as a player with a anaconda or something like that, with as many weapons he can carry, wants to explode people who are just getting out of Cleve Hub in their new sidewinder, he has the right to do it. The guy isn't fair ? And what ? Human can behave like the way they want to can't they ?

I do think this is only yet another thread which tries to explain how much time and how a player will need to get rid of PvP players in PvP instances.

If people don't want PvP instances, just go to PvE instances. I do think there is no nice or bad PvP, there is only PvP. (And I play and like PvP in another game ^^)

No not really, PVP has just inevitably come up (again) because information about the block function (as with other forms of player choice) is a very contentious issue to the pro-PVP crowd. The thread isn't intended to effect PVP or open, it's just about making people aware of the block mechanic how it's used how it's supposed to be used why it was developed and so on.

The AI upgrade was really good fun while it lasted, and the NPC's are a lot better now than before so that's not all bad.
