Persistence. ... Hmm regardless of if you have confidence in SC or not, you are thin ice using persistence as a stick to beat it on ED forums imo . At least they are planning on having some. ;)

True - but at the moment it's simply not a thing in SC. Even being persistent in-game by carefully planning an ambush and getting perfectly hidden amongst a structure or a feature, and waiting patiently for someone to come out and play - isn't possible in SC. You get timed-out due to inactivity. When you've finished going "ugh!" and reconnected, suffered the frankly appalling load times again, to find you are back in your Commando Cube is a bit disheartening.

If anything the Gamescon date is something CiG cannot postpone or delay hehehe so at least something is garantueed. If or what CiG manages to provide on that date is still very a big question but at least we know to expect "something" so theres that ^^

Read those news about persistence and it reeks of overengineering. I can't imagine running costs to support that alone. Again, fantasy over the top.

So I think it is better to set the sights a bit lower, and hope for
1) Three moons, seamless, in the PU.
2) The start of basic gameplay loops.
3) Performance improvements.

I think "performance improvements" will be more than cancelled out by the addition of the planet tech. What little (unscripted) planet stuff they've shown has appeared to perform very badly. But fear not, it's only pre-alpha, in case we had forgotten.

I think performance enhancements will be hard to find - especially as CIG insist on using their special proprietary caching system.

It caches so well, that once it's loaded everything and the kitchen sink it thinks you'll need, if you have to go back to the main menu and choose the same game type you just left, it dumps the cache and loads everything yet again :D

And if the SC sceptics did indeed stick to determined but respectful scepticism of SC and SC fan comments, I'm sure they would be seen as far more credible. The people continuously denigrating the entire SC community are doing neither themselves nor their fellow sceptics any favours.

Not really, I've seen a lot of measured criticism of SC being shot down instantly over the years, and not in kind words. Hell, try asking about refunds on Reddit. Still, the situation seems to be improving, as many fans of SC notice its problems. It's not important how respectful you are, but how what you are saying is compatible with the consensus in the community.

There is a whole reddit for those seeking refunds, and the folks there are quite nasty...

Apart from two or three exceptions they are far more friendly to would-be refunders than anyone on the main SC subreddit, so no, I disagree.

I don't think they tend to offer hugs and kittens when Pro-SC folks go in there and tell them how mean they are to be ruining everyone else's dreams because they are brainwashed by the Nameless One... :p

4 weeks to Gamescom, is the revised schedule out tonight? Can't expect anything other than a "still on course to reveal on the 26th August" timeline?

Definitely not for the next few weeks. They must stay on schedule now. Even if something goes horribly wrong, at least they'll be able to say the delay was unexpected. :p

Can we stop for just one segment of one day to discuss who is most unfriendly? [blah]

4 weeks to Gamescom

Mission accomplished CiG.

It doesnt matter what the schedule report says anymore. That the projected release date will be delayed to at least Gamescon is a given by now. Everybody knows it and many people simply wait for Gamescon and what it ll bring. Way to play your trusting backers. Honestly, this is simply shameful. I m glad I never backed CiG in the first place, I d feel dirty by now even if I d gotten my refund in the meantime having been affiliated with such a company. I type this because the quoted snippet worked on me as well. I was one of the people who checked the schedule report continously in the beginning but have given up in the meantime. You dont ever learn anything meaningful from it and the date, the ONE thing its supposed to clarify is as obfuscated as ever. All it ever do is increase the hype and keep dangling the carrot.

Um, changing topic... I wonder how bad 3.0's performance will be on my GTX 660, which was completely defeated by planets in Space Engineers, though those are voxel-based, not (I presume) heightmap-based as in SC.

So, there is a new schedule, here's a diffcheck, valid for one month:
https://www.diffchecker.com/EDA991F4

TL;DR: Mainly bugfixing, they're also working on a delta patcher to be ready soon. Missions and entity spawner delayed (11th of August), character customisation TBD, some UI tasks to be done. Evocati 3rd to 17th of August, PTU to 31th of August, release between 4th and 8th of September.

Yeah, its actually quite a thing. Its now officially passed beyond gamescon. Release is now five weeks away, from the original eight (I think) three months ago. That means each month we got one week closer to release. The stripped-down netcode improvements were one week away two weeks ago, and now they are almost two weeks away...
