So, about 2.4...

So how much time is being wasted on this "story" nobody is following? I thought elite didn't have a scripted story to it. Once played out, it'll never be played again and then we have rest of the game they couldn't be bothered with as they spent all their resources on a scripted story which were were told "ED doesn't have scripted story's go play SC for that nonsense!"
LOL

Just reminding everyone here that the "Story" has 8,532 replies on this forum. Other story elements show similar numbers. I just hope everyone remembers a little humility and that sometimes you're part of a vocal minority, which, in threads like these, creates an echo chamber very quickly.

There would probably be less complaints here about the "story" aspect, if the main game was a bit more fleshed-out. (Y'know, mile wide inch deep, etc.)

Very true. Story should've come later.
Or in a different way that wouldn't occupy the whole development year :p

I just hope some of these new things are not pointless and worth your time, cargo space, ect... Such as S&R or salvaging... What I mean is, you find a pod with someone in it and it's worth 1,000 credits... Come on... lol... If a NPC in game is willing to pay you 4 million credits to take them on a sight seeing adventure saving a life stuck in an escape pod will be worth more than 1,000 credits if you get my point... lol.... FD have a bad habit of nerf the @#$@ out of something instead of taking little steps, such as the data points in medium bases. Where they were worth 250-700k and now 2k... lol... You can make more money blowing up a lowest ranking sidewinder...

For that reason, it may appear as if there’s a lack of new information about 2.4… we’ll keep things going with sneak peeks here and there, but we really want you to discover 2.4’s big secrets for yourselves.

Will we discover this content really ingame or do we have to wait until someone posts something on youtube/reddit/forum where he or she found something accidentally?

It has been said so many times already.. Not now, not soon, way far down the road.
Why torturing yourself with the waiting ?

They said they're working on it. They better have something major for season 3 (space legs pls).

Well, working on it could mean concept art, so I wouldn't get too excited until you actually see something concrete. As for Space Legs, that really needs to be a thing soon, the ships in this game are just crying out it be explored!

That's my point. I haven't been playing for months now and don't have any intentions until that happens. In the meantime I enjoy battlegrounds and the soon to be released Star Citizen 3.0.

I'm starting to realise that 2.4 is just different enemy AI ships and more RNGineering with new mats *sigh*

We don't know exactly. It's story focused and player driven.

I hope there's more original stuff that adds depth. I like the upcoming salvaging options and repair limpets.

We don't know yet. It could be that, it probably will be that, and it kinda sounds like that from the limited info we have, but Frontier just may surprise us with some creativity. It's possible...

We talked about what's coming to 2.4 with Lavecon communications and the newsletters that followed after this, and in Zac’s post here.

The difference with 2.4 is that we're heavily focusing on the continuation of the narrative of the Thargoids and the emerging stories surrounding them. We've started to see the threads being discovered by the community in the past couple of months and 2.4 will be largely about pulling on those threads and unravelling more of the story behind them. The way that the update will be delivered won't be like any other we've done and will focus on narrative – a narrative that we certainly don’t want to spoil. For that reason, it may appear as if there’s a lack of new information about 2.4… we’ll keep things going with sneak peeks here and there, but we really want you to discover 2.4’s big secrets for yourselves.

Aside from the major update and the focus on narrative, there will obviously be improvements, bug fixes, and balancing changes to various aspects also. These will be included as part of the patch notes as usual.

From a side it's nice to see a Dev answer here and I thanks for your time.

On the other your answer raises ever more questions.

Let's put aside the first statement: so ok to the rule "no spoiler here".

But.

What improvment are you bringing? Gas giant? Settlement as mentioned by David Braben?

Unless I am not mistaken I don't see any spoiler reason to not show what are you working on (as you did with horizon update 2.0 for example).

Neither I recall spoiler reasons when Fd talked about engeneers for example (2.1).

Fix. Are you talking about the beigification?

Balances? what are you planning to do? Shield tweak? Adding new weapons or balancing the old ones? and in this second case: what balance are you bringing up?
Or the balance is about ships (T9?Cutter?Corvette?). Increasing Ai? New conflict zone? New in game tools?

All of this doesn't fall under the spoiler tag so I don't see any reasons Fd shouldn't to inform us (just consider the roadmap of Arma3 just to mention a different dev company).

And not informing us when you could, it seems to me, using the Occam's razor logics, that Fd has nothing to show.

Honestly, with another big project for 2018, 2 port, and the rushed update of the last year, I have the impressions that Fd is working on something else having relegated Elite to a secondary project.

Hope to be wrong of course but i don't hide that I am regretting the Lifetime expansion purchase.

So is there no way to keep us informed of all the non-narrative changes coming in 2.4.....without ruining the mystery? Also, are there plans for a beta containing these non-narrative elements?

Thanks in advance.

Why is it important to know? I'll find out what's in 2.4 when I read the patch notes. Dunno, I just don't get why everybody's clamouring to find out what's in an update we can't install yet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Probably because a lot of us want to know if we're being listened to, and the real concerns we have for the game are actually being addressed, and not merely just more filler without substance.
