EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

I had "Elite Dangerous has stopped working" recently and I realized, that Afterburner for GPU and CPU monitoring was the reason for the crashing.
I just closed the Afterburner and all is working well again.

yeah this is weird. elite launcher runs fine from steam but it doesn't want to run the exe from the folder itself for some reason. Afterburner is indeed the culprit but why? AB never caused this before. I need me some afterburner to take screenshots :(

Get this when I click the Check for Updates button.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

that was quick. I broke the update system today and haven't had time to fix. I'll sort it out in the next week or so. For now, no updates so no problem

EDIT: rolled back the changes for now so should get the normal msg

Very good, I liked, BUT it can improve, for example the image display and colors, inside the game it is totally different!

Sorry if this is a FAQ, though I did look - EDprofiler kinda works for me, but not for the most important bits. I can't actually use it to switch from 2D to 3D or vice-versa. It does run the game and it does change colours (though the "VR friendly" teal choice made red things like WANTED tags an unreadably dark blue), but I still need to use the games options menu to make the main switch.

Any pointers?

I'm confused, unless I've missed something obvious, judging by your (presumably illustrative) screenshots you seem to be confusing "totally different" with "practically identical"?

The colors are not the same Compared to what the program shows and the game shows, totally different! So it becomes difficult to have an idea of how you would actually stay in the game.

Sorry Eliot, you are much better at color identification than me. The difference is so subtle in my eyes I can't really see it. Not sure I can improve something I can't see!

Yeah, I'm hitting the "3D" button, and then "Apply", but it's not switching to 3D mode. Ditto switching back.

You have to change the settings when the game is closed, then start the game to see them. Is that what you are doing?

I was a bit hesitent to use EDProfiler as it's not been updated since 2016 but thought I'd give it a try as it looks quite useful, especially for the VR settings.

I applied a couple of 2D changes, including some HUD colours to test it and then reversed them out - to check that worked OK. That worked for the most part but I now have a large grey exclamation mark on the left hand side where details about your target usually shows up. It could be me but I don't recall seeing that before I used EDP. If I select a target, e.g. another ship or station that shows fine, if I deselect a target the exclamation comes back.

Any idea's how I fix that?

And I assume from the recent comments this is still working for everyone else?

For info, I am using a Steam installed version.

Hi that issue has nothing to do with EDP as far as I am aware. I don't know what it is but I'll guess verifying your game files via the launcher will fix it

OK thanks for the quick reply drkaii, I'll give your suggestion a go next time I get chance.

First a big thank you to the OP for creating this great tool! After using it for just a few days I felt obligated to hit the donate link.

Secondly I want to share something really stupid on my part in case anyone else run into this problem. After everything had been working just fine, somehow my graphic preset in game got changed from Custom to one of the defaults, like VR High for example. I didn't realize this and spent at least an hour wondering why all of a sudden EDP profiles wasn't getting applied.

It appears to me that if a default graphics preset is selected, all the graphic settings you apply via the tool will not take effect in the game, though Display, Binding and HUD colors will still apply. If this is intended, perhaps a note about the behavior in EDP's GUI will head off some unnecessary reinstalls. :)
