This message is on my main menu, right now at the time of posting.

Also spotted a few people posting about the message in the Xbox clubs.

Now maybe this appears often, however, it is the first time I've spotted such a message.

Anyone know more?

Thursday is routine maintenance, they may be planning to introduce server-side changes that make local data incompatible for some players. Likely one of those weird esoteric problems that cause early-onset developer hair loss.

Ah yes, of course. I forgot about that weekly occurrence.

Honestly, it still surprises me that many people don't switch off their consoles when not playing. That "instant-on" mode uses so much electricity that I'd never leave my Xbox like that. Interesting how in the last few years the concept of this "power cycle" and "hard reset" became such an issue for a lot of players. Whereas for me it's always been a given to switch completely off what I don't use.

I al as switch off completely dude. ;)

The question was about if anything was known about an update.

My TV doesn't have an off button. If I want to turn it off as opposed to leaving it on standby all the time, I have to turn it off at the mains. I know it only uses a tiny bit of electricity in standby but it doesn't need to use any - I mean what exactly is it standing by for? In case I have an emergency TV watching scenario that means I simply won't be able to wait those seconds?

I despair sometimes, really I do.

The normal weekly maintenance is something like 8am UK time, so I expect it has been completed a couple of hours ago.

i was playing at 9ish so unless it was done in record time i doubt its been done yet, i would also assume the menu message would have been taken away if it was already done

EDIT: btw im sticking with my theory of they are adding in new alien stuff, since they don't normally put a message on the menu telling you about the weekly server maintenance :D

I can relate. :) The difference is that while my TV for example uses around 0.1 W in standby mode, so it's essentially turned off, the Xbox One uses around 16 W or so in "instant-on mode" which means it's not turned off at all. I don't mind having an LED on my TV but the console is not constructed well regarding this function. It's just too much to leave it turned on, not to mention all the software problems it causes in the long run. Xbox Support's first advice, should you have any problems with freezing or software is to "power cycle" the console, which literally means turning it off and back on. Such a simple act has become troublesome or strange to do for many. I don't like that more of our electric appliances want to be on all the time. Especially if it comes to computers (which a console essentially is) it's much better to turn off when you don't use it. As chaotic as the Xbox OS is it's even more recommended.

I love this new feature!

Before it was available, updates could ruin a game night by requiring some to wait for hour-long downloads before being able to play with our group.

ow, all my games are always up to date, and I never need to worry that I'll miss a game night due to a huge mandatory update.
