Casting for Elite Dangerous: The Movie

No, no, and no.

You mean the protagonist? He should have more charisma. It could be someone like Tom Hardy or DiCaprio (they're too expensive a-list actors though).

I wasn't going for an exact match in likeness, not at first anyway, Felicia Winters in particular was the hardest for me to cast with that tanned skin and blonde hair. :)

Right, it's not just about looks. All those actors would do a fine job. These are A-List Actors though. I doubt Frontier would hire them, cause they're too expensive. They'd hire talented but little known actors such as with Game of Thrones.

Felicia Winters has white hair.

We could flip the table over and throw gender matching out the window (which worked IMO for Starbuck on nBSG), what about a Pirate Queen instead of a Pirate Lord?

That would be awful imo. If they're gonna add PC social justice warrior themes then I and many other people won't bother to watch it. I don't want see a female Denton Patreus or male Aisling Duval. That's silly and BSG got a lot of critism for changing stuff such as the original Lieutenant Starbuck, Dirk Benedict. Such re-imagining disrespects the original source material.

Didn't harm nBSG in my opinion. Likewise, I expect the outrage over the casting of a female Doctor Who to die out when the episodes air. Its funny, people can accept a time-travelling police box which is bigger on the inside than the outside, but a change of gender for the Doctor (which worked for the Master?) Run for the hills!

But now. Prof Palin. I know its getting cliche but wouldn't that be a perfect job for Patrick Stewart?

No Carl Urban as Palin I bet he would make a great alien scientists, Stewart could play someone else

Who would play the voice of the ship, I know they could make a robot do it like the game but a person would be better

Certainly plenty of good acting talent to fill such an ensemble cast. We'd need multiple CMDRs so I'd have Chris Pratt in there somewhere. Sam Neill, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman as well.

But perhaps more important is who would direct? Produce? Special effects? I think I'd go someone like Chris Nolan to direct.

Hengist Duval, if he's in the movie, could be played by Michael Caine.

I don't watch Doctor Who and couldn't care less. If they change the genders of the Powers that are well known in the Elite universe, it would be a shame. It's better to add original characters with new roles.

Other movies with SJW agendas wrapped into them have tanked like the Ghostbusters (2016) (rated 5.3/10) movie (they changed the genders of the protagonists from male to female to satisfy SJW and feminists which backfired) check this video. The The Emoji Movie (rated 1.5/10) got very bad reviews.

I haven't seen the The Emoji Movie but IMO, Ghostbusters tanked because of a crap script, not because of an all female cast.

I mean I'd approve if gender switching was part of the plot - no. just .. maybe not.

edit: to add something constructive. I'd also opt for Elite going anime - something like "Saber Rider"

or Aeon Flux animated original by Peter Chung...

My part would be played by Michael Jefferey Jenkins.

Was it intentional to make Robert Patrick and Zach Hudson twins?

On topic Jason Statham would make a great commander he always has a do it my way dosent take crap from anyone type attitude which is how everyone plays

Edit: we should get Andy Serkis to play the noises that the thargoids makes
Steve Buscemi as a Thargoid, no makeup or costume needed.

I have a hard time figuring out who the Director must be.

Elite is more in the epic class just like Lord of the Rings or maybe a more realistic version of Star Wars, but with more Lovecraftian horror aspects. The unseen psychology and the immersion of the beholder.

Focus must be on the content, plausibility and DEPTH, because that is where the goodness of any movie lay.
A director who do not understand how to portray the DEPTH of the interstellar travel and the immensity of space, will never be able to do it justice.

The shock and awe of environmental scenery.

There is no qualified stories yet in Elite dangerous, even though amateur writers have tried. With the help of Mr. Potter it became interesting anyway. Good stories are often bred out of unexpected coincidences.

So, if this is going to have a real shot, we need more and better writing.

Maybe an epic adventure story circling around Mr. Braben and the universe itself?
I am not sure about you, but I want the loveable characters as the heroes: Ed, Bo, Dav and all those. Maybe in a multi crew situation?

Ed played by Seth Green
Bo played by Rachael McAdams
Dav played by him self

The timeline of the original Elite till 3303 has enough characters and material to work with. I agree with it needing to be a more realistic version of Star Wars with horror aspects.

That would be a documentary about how Elite came-about imo. It wouldn't be set in the Elite universe you know. Ed and Bo are not characters in Elite, they're staff of Frontier.
