Back to the Cobra MKIV I go!

Wow, it has been a while since I've been in a small ship. My main ships is the Conda built for exploration but while waiting for 2.4 to come around I've decided to stay around the bubble and surrounding areas, for when things ramp up so, instead of exploring I've decided to pick up bounty hunting/salvaging. Decided to go with one of my old favorites and bought back my Cobra MKIV...man how I've missed this ship! Currently working on getting it all engineered but saw this paint in the store and it was calling my name. Almost love this ship more than my conda now!

Nice paintjob, but you are going to make all those players that cannot get this ship green with envy ;)

The Cobra MkIV's are a great little ship, been using mine for some general purpose work - it's very versatile and packs quite a punch, especially when engineered.

I have mine finished in the Black Friday paint theme - oops, sorry not everyone has access to that either.

Cheers

Its still one of my favorites! I own almost every ship now but I remember that during the beta and long after I played only in Cobra. Getting back to it brings good memories! Although its the MKIII version.

Have a fully engineered one in mothballs for when FD realise that small pad only trading CG's/stations would make this ship awesome.

I'm not holding my breath though, even with A rated life support...

Does the black Friday paint come once a year?

Nah, you're thinking of Father Christmas. :D

@OP - nice. The CM4 is a lovely ship. I love the tight convergence of the 3 small hardpoints on top. I do need to get another one. I'd make one a scavenger, but i've got a CM3 covering that role at the moment. My CM4 is currently a bomber. One i figure out a role for the next CM4 though, i'm getting one.

Flying tank *nod* Just replace everything with HRPs and MRPs :D Who cares if it only has 2ly jump range. Then go into a CZ and play Soviet Armored Division ;)

Lovely piece of kit, I also love mine and use it very often.

Very sturdy, it may be not fast, but can take a lot of beating! Once I escaped a gank by a fully engineered Vette and its wing. Sure, heat went through the roof, but since there is room for module protection, I was waving bye-bye before high waking out. :)

My thinking has gone along the lines of building up a nice little squadron of CMIV's

I don't own one at the moment but I used to have a MkIV for general mission running until I eventually moved to a FAS and now a Python. Before I sold it I refitted with five fixed rails which was hilarious, basically a coin toss between which would pop first, the enemy from rail hits or the MkIV from heat damage.

I never thought it deserved all the criticism; it's a versatile little runabout and makes for a very inexpensive mid-range explorer, and the insurance is peanuts. I think too many people were expecting a MkIII Turbo, which it was never going to be.

Engineers brought new life to it too. Come to think of it, it might be worth re-trying the all-rail build with some efficiency modifications...

No unfortunately - it was only available as a once off.

Iirc they put them up for sale again last November, it's not so far fetched to think they will put them up this year too. They were up for sale individually instead of a pack but still, black is black.

That'd be great if there was an efficient mod for rails. Yes you can get heat reduction as a secondary for sturdy mount but the extra mass reduces the already woeful speed of the CM4

I've gone back to flying the good 'ol Cobra MKIII - had to fly Lave and dock at Lave Station again - I remember doing that almost 30 years ago back on the ZX Spectrum - for hours!!

Of course the ship looks a bit more interesting than the old specy version:

I have two Cobra MK IV's, one in the bubble and one at Colonia and I completely love them. They're definitely my fun, knocking around ships. They're completely rubbish until you get them engineered, as they're hopelessly underpowered so you have to choose between weapons or engines, but afterwards..! :)

This^. I think I eventually sold my Cobra Mk IV and bought a Viper IV which also benefits from engineering and is a fine ship too (took it out to the Formidine rift and back, still got it, mothballed somewhere...hmmm, might park the C3 and take it for a spin again).
