I expect that we will get about a week of good Thargoid fun before the participation award brigade sheds enough tears to get them dialed back.
Do you mean in the game or the forum meltdown after the Thargoids hit ?.
Yes to the first, the second is a given regardless of how Thargoids are implemented anyway.
How many of those who want "challenge" assume that they would win most of the time?
How many of those who want "challenge" would accept to lose most of the time?
And why does it have to be aliens that are nothing more than NPCs doing human things in human understandable ways?
I'm going to take off my staff hat and put on my player hat for a second...
This would be immeeeeeense. I know it's not for everyone, but if the Thargoidinvasionreturn (they've been here before!) is one of violence, I want to see everything being subject to it. If they attack, turn everything on the edges of the bubble into rubble (hey, look! rhyming happened...) and then moving inexorably toward the seats of power within each of the major ruling factions. Like I say, it's not for everyone. It'd still be frickin' cool though.
*staff hat back on*
Err... you'll know more soon! Not going to spoil anything though![]()
I think too many players see this as something that can be implemented with a hammer. That is to say, smack it on the head... Boom! Aliens everywhere. That's not going to go down well with a sizable number of the community. (Note how I refrain from claiming majority or half)
The Thargoid update needs not a hammer, but a scalpel. They need to be implemented surgically, and with respect to all players, so all play styles are accommodated. By all means alter the way people play. But the lobbying by some for the outright removal of passive play through Thargoids, utterly disgusts me. It's incredibly selfish, and short-sighted.
We've survived the great 2.1 AI War, we can survive some flying fidget spinners. Don't go easy on us, please!

Best selling? Who cares about that metric? I'm not interested in playing an 20 minutes or more at a time of tetris, are you? Besides, FD already has my money, what I want is impactful content for the players (impact comes with positives and negatives, just like life), whether the wallets of the company get fatter or not I'm ambivalent about
Err, didn't FD offer to reimburse everyone who lost their stuff in 2.1? That would suggest we didn't really survive very well!
I meant more like we didn't rage-quit the game and kept playing. Obviously, reimbursement was necessary with a bug that crazy.
Yes! Burn down all the hyperspace routes. Make humanity have to explore and reconnect all stellar jump routes. Mount rescue missions for disconnected colonies, bases and megaships. Defend the jump routes, to stop them from being torn down again.
For the record I'm looking forward to aliens that sometimes require a brave sir Robyn regardless of player skill. Obviously they don't have to all be like that, but to be brutally honest; who gives a flying fig at a rolling doughnut about aliens who are roughly the equivalent to our current NPC's, or that compounded by being locked into signal sources?
I don't require the bubble to burn, but if certain parts of it are not put at risk in a struggle with ever shifting borders, then who cares beyond cheap novelty?
I am "interested in playing an 20 minutes or more at a time of tetris" and have done so many times. I still play Solitaire too. We can have the "impactful content for the players (impact comes with positives and negatives, just like life)" as optional content, though. I don't understand the desire to force combat on players that aren't interested in combat. Imo, that would contradict the game's mantra of blazing your own trail.
Totally agree, If I want to fight them I'm quite happy to grab a Conda and seek them out, but I sure as hell dont want them getting forced into my face when I'm doing missions or running cargo. Thargoids should be optional. If not, then I agree that large sections of the community will be grabbing torches and pitchforks and rightly so.

No, not forced combat, forced escape if you're not into combat. But to be unaffected by a galactic war doesn't even make sense. That'd be like life going on as normal during WWII. No. Everyone, whether in the service or not, felt an effect. Whether war rationing, volunteering labor, collecting donations, etc they felt it.
Oh no, i'd hate for war on the human race to be inconvenient on rank/cr per hour..... Sorry man, I just really can't agree. No hostility meant, but this mentality is why everything we get is either watered down in challenge or depth. I'm looking for any reason I can get to get OFF the mission/cr grind and be an actual part of something.
