Star Citizen Thread v6

Yeah, I am having trouble well not really trouble as it looks okay but it does go under 90 a lot when I fly around and with the fidelity in SC being that much higher it seems unlikely i'd be able to run that in VR without some upgrades.
Having said that though if they implement sli/crossfire for VR...wow! and I don' t know how their engine runs in VR.

Switching between FPS and VR would indeed be a bit of a challenge but I suppose you could always stick to one role at a time...I mean what with ship repairs actually being a thing, cargo loading and stuff. There will be a plethora of things to do on ships it would seem and not just pew pew pew.
I still feel a little hyped about the VR....so much to do, awesome graphics. If it ever comes out and has VR I am going to try it for sure.

I see that despite having nothing to show on the VR front, they are still courting the VR press

Yeah yeah mobiglas(TM) is practically job-done for Star Citizen's VR implementation is it?

The comments on that page (VR press) are a great snapshot of the fan/critic divide. The first one summed it up perfectly I think, "Give it a decade or so, I'm sure it'll be added."

Still eagerly awaiting todays ATV and the vast amount of content their new format must contain.

And it's here!

In case anyone missed it, there's a comment about VR in the ATV at the 16:44 mark: https://youtu.be/djT7zF2WQVo?t=16m44s

I'd pay real money to watch someone try that :D

Running around in FPS with touch controllers, they mobiglass their ship to arrive at their location - it ROARS down in front of them in a cacophony of engine blast and triumphant jingly ditties, the player leaps into the cockpit with furious use of the <<USE>> button, and then for ultra-fidelity-immersion grabs their Star Citizen HOTAS..... and their ship explodes.

Five minutes of grabby-handing around trying to find the touch controllers, or immersion-breaking headset removal, either way it's back to gameplay which mostly consists of how many Commandos can get their underpants to fill your FOV at any given time.

I have Oculus touch and a strong sotmach, Ill volunteer, next free flight weekend when VR is turned on

I have Oculus touch and a weak stomach, but I'll still volunteer to wing up with you when VR arrives... are you free December 2026? It's going to be so much fun playing SC with Rift headset, Hotas, Touch controllers, keyboard & mouse. I'll try to bring along a 3rd player to control my mobiglass. Perhaps I can 3d holo-project my mobiglass to the 3rd player's projection console. :D

I just popped on Spectrum to catch up on one of the recently Mod enforced megathreads where the world is inevitably falling once again...quite surprised to see my nagging post had been upvoted again with none of the usual silly little poop icons from the cult of Roberts groupies. I'll be getting banned from Spectrum soon I guess

Oh this is a good one from CIG on Spectrum.

We are curently doing something to a level that has never been done before. With the curtains pulled back, it reveals a common path traveled by project managers and software developers, largely unseen by the general public. We understood the hurdles that would come with this type of communication, but we made the decision to be transparent and we'll stand by it.

First thing i think they forget is many gaming fans work in the industry. I work in the industry. I spent a few years as a PM. And "with the curtains pulled back" we can see just how poorly managed it has been. I think i can say this with confidence, for one simple reason regardless of my experience. Let's say they had closed development. How would it have looked?

Game will be released in 2016
...
Game will be released in 2017
...
Game will be released in.....????

Close or open, we see the exactly same picture. Its Duke Nukem 2 all over again.

If CIG had a publisher, maybe we would be thinking its all the fault of the evil publisher... but they don't even have that excuse. CR is the man in charge, he is responsible for staffing all the high level positions, he is responsible for the direction and plans for the game. He is the one who is fully responsible for the game repeatedly being delayed year on year.

CIG can spin it however they want, but its clear the project has been horribly mismanaged from start to.... erm.... not finish.

hilariously, the matrix description is truly fitting for the whole project after the last few years... in the 1st movie morpheus said to neo that the matrix is a computer generated dream world designed to turn human being into duracell battery, you can just change it into : star citizen project is a imaginary generated dream world designed to turn gamers into atm machine/gold mine or whatever. :D

what I learned from all these years is that people are eager to bleed their bank account dry to prove they're not wrong, till the last drop they will.

This just reads like they are feeding the narrative of the devout who make excuses for everything.

I've seen people saying that CIG are being parental and taking away the dates because the naughty children cannot handle them.

It is strange, because admitting you have been wrong about something is easy and liberating. Yeah, consequences too, but those come nevertheless.

Still I agree lot of people pour money into SC to win some contest rest of the world don't know and don't care about.

Well, they are at least fundamentally start to question whole CIG approach. That's achievement in my eyes.

The date removal for 3.0 isn't a new thing, CIG do it regularly.

Every time they can no longer pretend they are going to make an important date they've announced they go silent. Then they wait until a few months after the date has passed and just start making more wild promises they know they don't need to keep. Meanwhile the super-fans come up with some strange justification for this by themselves in the information vacuum as being somehow good for star citizen, and attack anyone who disagrees. If Star Citizen hobbles along for enough time we'll see people being accused of lying for saying 3.0 ever had a date before 2018 let alone 2016.

It's a bit like when you're waiting for the bus for too long: both admitting you could already be at home if you walked, and stopping believe maybe the bus is right around the corner in any minute hurt your pride

Yep, I'm quite relieved it finally starts to crack, though I think it's still a long way off till it has consequnce on CIG, and it should have started at least after the "road to gamescom" nonsense...

Dont worry the cracks will disappear at gamescom and the show CR will do everyone will be ashamed of themself to question the great CR and the dream of SC. There will be a sale again, again with a "end of the year" promise and "we will show more at citzencon" like every year before it.
