DB Tweets 2.75M ED Units....

No, you don't understand. 5500 was the amount of concurrent players (=players being online at the same time at a specific moment), 80.000 are unique players which played the game at least once during the last two weeks = current active player base on one platform. The real numbers are more close to 200.000-300.000 (estimated) active players.

Choose your sample: "one day" or "2 weeks".

5500 player are playing the game in the same moment.

80000 player are the ones in the last 2 weeks. Fine.

Now if Math isn't an opinion: 80000/14 = 5500 players.

While I agree that number are higher (because you don't consider who has purchased the game by steam [but you should also consider more account to the same players to be fair]) nethereless the trend is going down. And the 300.000 (without considering ps4 or xbox) it's number I hardly understand where you got it...

While I am not the bringer of the Truth but:

Peak concurrent players yesterday: 5,541

= 5541*14=

Players in the last 2 weeks: 77,698 ± 7,622 (7.29%)

At the end:

Ed is played usually by 5500 players.

Unless I am reading something wrong here - which could be - 5500 player is almost coherent with steamchart result

And from a game who has sold so many copies that should be a truly alarm sign to Fd: in my opinion it reflects player leaving the game for reason are well known

Apologies for going off topic a bit.

Edit

yes Babelfish: I have read it in your last post.

Players in the last 2 weeks have nothing to do with concurrent players. Concurrent players is the average playing at the same time. We don't get the same 5000 players playing 24/7. Concurrent players doesn't even tell how many people have played in that day. It is a meaningless. For all know the whole of the steam active player base of 80000 could play in one day and it may still only show a peak of 5000 concurrent players.

At the end of the day it say ED is played by 5000 players at the same time, that instant, that second, that is not in a day.

I only play 2-3 times a week and 2-3 hours each time.

Choose your sample: "one day" or "2 weeks".

And sometimes the amount of players go up to 100,000 and only have 4000 players playing at the same time. They are not connected.

That 80000 are separate accounts. You can't divide that by 14 and say, that is 5500 people playing each day as that is not how it works. For all know it could be 80,000 playing every day and concurrent players will not tell you that either.

That's great! I hope they sold a decent number of PS4 copies, and eventually add VR support for those folks. This game is amazing in VR, so much so that I think it will drive sales/adoption, at least to some degree.

I did consider PS4, Xbox and Frontier Store for the 300.000. On your other point: I give up...

That´s nice. Some of us old timers will surely reawaken when new content is presented. Its good to see the progress from kick starter to this point. Never has a game give me so many hypes as E.D And I am sure its not over yet :) We can all say that E.D is a success.

Wait, do we care about concurrent players now because we're saying the game is a MMO and multiplayer interaction is important?

Because the rest of the time on this forum, it's people trying to argue that the game is not an MMO and we should only really care about PVE.

Just want to know which identity out of Elite's multiple-personality disorder we're on today in regards to what the game is since that directly impacts the importance of caring about a given number.

I'm sure somebody going to do it but at price points above £30 the turnover is going to be high. You have to ask how much went and wil be going into ED and much into other IPs and shareholders. That's one thing about SC, all the turnover is going back into the game. But fdev are a sustainable multiple game developer so I can understand why they haven't invested it all back in to ED, they want still be selling million units of games in 5 years time.

Newsflash: *** There are people on this forum who don't share the same opinion. ***

Steam numbers, like Reddit polls, are rarely ever in sync with the real world. Quite a few people bought the game before it was ever released on Steam, and a fair chunk of those never cashed in on the free migration code that was offered at the time.

I only use Steam for games that absolutely require it, and even then you can find ways around that requirement in some cases. There was quite a bit of discussion regarding the move to Steam, when it was first offered, and the consensus at the time seemed to lean towards people using the standalone launcher, rather than giving Valve 30% of FD's income for little more than a different launcher.

In the end, all of this speculation is moot. The only people that have the actual numbers work in FD's building, and they've not posted those anywhere that I can think of right away.
