DB Tweets 2.75M ED Units....

1 million companies of Planet Coaster (P:C)
2.75 million Elite Dangerous Franchise (Combine sales of Elite Dangerous an Elite Dangerous Horizons)

Impressive sales by Frontier, no wonder Tencent wanted a piece of the action. An no wonder Frontier shares have gone from £2 to £6:90 in a single year.

Good figures. I thought P.C would be more than 1 million unit though....

Frontier can't expand the player base by porting to new platforms, now they have to improve the game play in order to attract new players.

P:C is arguably a even more niche game than Elite Dangerous through. So 1 million sales for that game is excellent.

While I am not the bringer of the Truth but:

Peak concurrent players yesterday: 5,541

= 5541*14=

Players in the last 2 weeks: 77,698 ± 7,622 (7.29%)

At the end:

Ed is played usually by 5500 players.

Unless I am reading something wrong here - which could be - 5500 player is almost coherent with steamchart result

And from a game who has sold so many copies that should be a truly alarm sign to Fd: in my opinion it reflects player leaving the game for reason are well known

Apologies for going off topic a bit.

Edit

yes Babelfish: I have read it in your last post.

Community Goal Participation in the last month suggests a different player base as this is only the numbers of Cmdrs who got in the top 100% of any given CG so was in the area
Yes this will be across all platforms and outside steam, but a number better than Ed is played usually by 5500 players across all possible activities

Current CG
3,282 (Material and Data collection)
Previous completed CGs
11,735 (bounty Hunting)
9,316 (CZ)
3,337 (CZ)
5,916 (Rare Goods)
13,553 (Bounty Hunting)
15,147 (Trade)
16,407 (Bounty hunting)

Congrats, FD!

Though, if you think Qatar Airways is awful.... that doesn't leave a whole lot of airlines left to fly on.... I guess it's corporate private jets for Braben from here on? :D

It really isn't. Coaster games like RC Tycoon or expanding it to similar games like theme hospital / theme park / prison architect always seem to do well.frontier had a hand in RC Tycoon 3 too so they know their onions with this type of game

Indeed I can't imagine what he would make of American airlines, Ryanair or easyJet then ;). .

Now I am thinking of dodgy airlines I want to dig out "come fly with me" again

I count in 3 out of 8 of those CG figures, but will never appear in the steam figures that Eymerich quoted, as I bought direct from FD and never bothered with a steam key. I'm probably playing 3-4 days per week on average, on PC.

On the other hand, I'm also 2 of DB's sales since I bought a second PC account, but I rarely use the alt account (it stays in the bubble if I go out exploring), so that account is possibly dead to FD for future revenue.

David's tweet.

David's tweet doesn't say ED has sold 2.75M copies of the game. It says "2.75m ED franchise units".

Obsidian Ant wrote "This figure only includes copies of the game." but I don't see anyone else saying this, least of all David/Frontier. So I too would be interested in hearing where Obsidian Ant got this information.

David meant PC = Planet Coaster.

Elite has sold 2.75M copies of the game.

I took 'franchise units' to mean copies of the base game plus copies of the Horizons expansion, that is in total sales have been 2.75m comprised of (example figures for illustration purposes only) 1.75m copies of Elite Dangerous plus 1m copies of the Horizons expansion.

In sales terms they are both units, i.e. separate and distinct purchases. In gamer's terms though, I think most of us would refer to that as 1.75m copies because that's how many copies of the game (upgraded and non-upgraded) would be out there available to be played.

Note, I'm not trying to suggest that he's trying to pull a fast one or using disingenuous wording or anything like that. Considering the niche appeal of the game though, I'd be surprised to see sales of the basic game closing in on the 3m mark even taking into account the fact it's available on multiple platforms.

I would also imagine that is you got the package Horizons and the base game together that would also be considered 1 unit as well. So have three variations, ED, Horizons expansion and the ED/Horizons combo.

I got this information directly from Frontier. Like many others here I wanted clarification, so asked for confirmation on this. The sales do not include paintjobs or any of the other extras, the 2.75m copies sold is purely Elite Dangerous and Horizons units. :)

Btw, if you are curious, FD will have to publish their official shareholder report soon (end of August). You can kinda make rough estimates how much FD gets from MT.

So the 2.75 million count ED and Horizons separately? What about people who bought the LEP or a bundled version, do they count twice?

+rep for being so clever to ask them directly ;)

As far as I remember, LEP sales were very low (because FD was shy about it and it was limited and very expensive offer) so they really does not matter in such scale of things.
