Are you hyped for 2.4 Beta?

I used to get excited about betas but lately I really seem not to care as much. Mainly because I didn't find Multi-crew, SLF, and Engineers very interesting. Not that I think they're bad content, I just ended up not using those features. I'm going to be patient this time but I am looking forward to the Thargoid meeting when it officially releases.

Has there been any word on new ships? I really, REALLY want some new ships.

I don't think I get 'hyped' about anything, but I'm glad I play and enjoy a game that has regular updates, new content and general patches.

Not sure why you thought that. beta was sold so people could test stuff and iron out bugs. It's what I have helped to do in the past and what I will continue to do as of Thursday.

If all we are doing is testing their software for them, why are WE paying THEM for us to do it? Why are WE paying FDev to "beta" test a game full of bugs that need to be ironed out, bugs that can crash our computers, etc.? Why in the WORLD would anyone pay for that? Would you go to work in the morning if your employer told you "Sure, you love your job, but starting tomorrow YOU are going to pay ME for the privilege of coming to work"?

I certainly do not mind testing their software and helping FDev make the game better for everyone but the payoff for beta testers (since years ago, developers stopped providing the software for free in exchange for beta testing) has been early access to gameplay features. I have been "beta" testing games since the 1980s and received a bunch of free games in exchange for helping the developers create a better, more stable, more enjoyable game. The later trend of actually CHARGING users to work for them makes me want to throw up a little.

Frankly, for me the most useful reason for beta testing has been to try out ships I couldn't afford in the "real" game and that is about it.

I pay to support them financially. As it stands at the moment, it looks like they don't need that much support anymore, so I will likely not buy beta next time round. I will probably buy the expansions and skins though.

OK, just to set things straight, the "paid beta" was all for the access to new features early. If they're leveraging that for the QA of the game, more power to them. If people are beta testing these features willingly and reporting bugs on the forums, more power to them. Also they dropped the "paid" part last time by providing open beta after closed beta. So I think both sides are happy with that "agreement".

I entirely agree.... however, credit where it's due. Whoever the bright spark was who came up with this idea must surely be smiling on a beach somewhere right about now :)

There could be a lot of Thargoid stuff happening on planets that non horizons players can't access. But I agree that there should be something unique to Horizons users as we have paid for this update.

I see no mention of new mechanics being implemented for the thargoid battles ahead...i was joking about the reskinned CZ's filled with Thargoids previously (FD would not dare do that surely) but with these patch notes and lack of any new info it's actually starting to look more likely.

Crossing all fingers in the hope that what was previously a joke about how lazy development seems to have become in ED does not turn into reality...

2+ years of buildup for that will be a huge letdown.

They've mentioned that the 2.4 beta will not contain any Thargoid material, lest it get spoiled. I imagine that extends to the patch notes.

Agreed. $20 on the new golden skins this morning. Oh, Yess!

Not hyped for Beta for two reasons, 1) I'm not taking part, so Meh! 2) A lot of stuff that the Beta team point out as bugs will not get fixed before release (that has been the case since Beta's started......), so again, Meh!

I've watched Obsidian's videos so that's 2.4 beta done for me so far :) There's nothing new in there that interests me...

Fingers crossed the Thargoid content (in 2.4), that we've been building up towards for year(s), that FD have in effect had 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 to put mechanics in to the game ready to make the most of them, is actually worthwhile and brings some long overdue new gameplay content with depth to ED!

Well after some time in beta its not a big game changer so far but they added some minor stuff that I really like - slots for holo me, preview of ships kit and skin, galaxy map improvements especially welcome.

It's a very light update except for the Thargoid story stuff. The combat focus of Season 2 has been driving towards this, what with engineered weapons (2.1), SLF's (2.2), and Multicrew (2.3). Three headline features which were focused on giving combat more diversity and mechanics to utilize for the mystery 2.4 update, which just happens to be an alien invasion. I never expected much from 2.4 for us non-combat players after they announced it's main feature, their priority has been clear for the past two years.

The galaxy map bug fix is nice, and the route plotter upgrade is great, but QoL, storyline stuff, and Elite Store content is pretty much all us non-combat players have gotten post 2.0, except for Passengers which was also nice. 2.4 does not break the trend, and it's exactly what I expected it to be, except for the route plotter surprise but that's really just another QoL thing.

Maybe next year.

A few things I'd like to point out, perhaps to commiserate, is that I personally think the 2.1 made the game a jumbled mess and that 2.2 & 2.3 were almost a slap in the face as being paid for features contained within Horizons. I say this speaking as a 99.99% combat player. SLF's were a mild diversion at best and multicrew is a joke. As far as I'm concerned all we've really gotten in the last 18 months (going on 24+) is planetary landings and various much appreciated QOL features that have benefitted the entire community.

I'm just putting this out there so that you understand that it's not just the explorer crowd feeling left out in the cold. Also, given the fact that I think planetary landings were literally the only "good" part of Horizon's, I think that makes the beigification of the planets all the more poignant-that's all we got that was worthwhile in the last 18 months that we paid extra for, and now that's being screwed up.
