Trilateration Spreadsheet Calculator and Explanations

Here is a site I found researching how to do the xyz calculation to find the target system from the scan data at the Unknown Structures.

Given that:

A Merope: Xm,Ym,Zm (known)
B Base: Xb,Yb,Zb (known - sys where base/scan came from)
C Col 22: Xc,Yc,Zc (known)
D Target: Xt,Yt,Zt (What you are looking for)

And from scan message:
AD Merope to Target
BD Base to Target
CD Col 22 to Target

This method does some intermediate steps to calculate AB, BC, and CA and find the normals for each respective triangle, then the two intersections/solutions.

There is a spreadsheet already setup to enter the knowns and it will calculate it for you.

This may be worth adding to the front page as another tool for anyone who wants to find the xyz(s) from the signals and hunt for the systems on their own.
Not to take anything away from Cmdr Wace of course, his tool is awesome.

Can someone point me to the link for the step by step guide for how to do the Guardians mission? I have read there is a guide that allows you to do it in about 5 hours?

Is that one of the ones linked on the OP?

IndigoWyrd has a guide - and a spreadsheet: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/369752-Looking-for-Volunteers (I don't have a link to his guide if it's not there)

Also a guide in my sig - (2nd link I think). This has links to the Canonn Guide and also to Dognosh's - Dognosh's has had good feedback.

Isn't it Shinrarta rather than Shintara? A theory with heavy misspelling in names is usually wrong ;)
There is the locked Founders' system Shinrarta Dezhra, but there is a rare good called Water of Shintara, implying there is/was a planet named Shintara. The rare good is available from Jameson Memorial station in Shinrarta Dehzra

Why does that imply it is a planet? It could just be a place. You know, like Irish Whiskey.

I took a break from Elite due to burn out. I started playing again this evening (still sat in the rift). I have been skim reading the weekly emails, but could someone give me a quick few bullets on anything of note that has happened in the last few months? Thanks in advance.

Wasn't there a "criteria" of sorts that all barnacle worlds had in common? Temp/Gravity/Atmo/etc...
Do the Unknown Structure worlds have either the same or a similar criteria?

Statements are not evidence.

Edit: actually whatever. Maybe fdev and Drew lied. If you want to continue please pm

Plus y'know, nobody from FDev has ever said there was anything there … and Drew always said it wasn't a POI to be found, and later that it had been "improved upon" - ie. the nothing that was there was improved by putting something there.

Thargoids were confirmed.
Many Thargoid structures discovered with buildings that you can drive into and activate certain equipment if you have the correct items. Activating them gives you the ability to decode messages and then find further bases. I think there are now over 200 of them that have been found.
Putting relics from the Guardians sites into them causes an aggressive reaction.
Formidine mystery was mainly solved.
Salome is dead.

If you're going to wait for FD to confirm something is in-game, then you'd be better off with Star Citizen!

It may be slightly OT, but related to Ancient Ruins, so I think it is worth noting.

On Wednesday I came back to Col 173 sector to look for more ruins and found some fungal trees (brain trees). Since then I find them pretty much everywhere with the right body temperature in this sector:

This morning I was thinking, all Ancient Ruins sites are on habitable worlds, so if any of them are volcanic, they should have fungal trees in splash craters.
So I picked up one from the list that was close to me - Vela Dark Region KR-W c1-24

You probably can guess what happened :)

I will check few more sites, but so far I have 100% hit ratio, so do not expect surprises. And obviously this is not limited to Col 173 Sector

If anyone is close to ruins next to Skaudai or Colonia please check for fungal trees.

Ice craters look slightly different and POI does not shrink on ice bodies - details here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...a-Collection?p=5843595&viewfull=1#post5843595

Short clip How To - very easy, takes maybe 2 minutes to check any splash crater.

Nice vid! I'm out searching Skaudai for new ruins - I have searched a couple of the ruin planets but no joy - both obviously landable and I was looking on volcanics. Never seen a POI like that though :(

Anything special about the crater - often there are lots - best to just choose the largest? Sure I heard (PanPiper?) comment about them having cracks - I guess like the one in the crater you looked at?

Anyway, nice find - I might have to have another go [up]

You know I was considering....With how meta alloys heal damage done by UA's and etc to stations, but yet we have found them around the wreckages and grown off barnis....What if its just a fancy way to connect to there tech? probs why its grown around there sites so they can make the organic tech and then merge it with alloys?(aka why meta alloys "soothe" UA's). foreshadowing possibly on what might happen to infected stations?
