Both sides this last weekend were fighting for a system they cared about.
Neither side could give up their claim to Lave.

And the fighting was good.
The BGS ticks were closely contested. Never more than a few percent. Some days down to the wire. Lave is a 25 Billion population, so pretty hard to move. Both sides smashed it out absolutely as hard as they could. LRN are a popular mob, and the Alliance mobilised to defend.
I don't know the crew on the LRN side, but I saw CMDRs from all over the Alliance. AID ARC AMF AEDC New Dawn and AOS. Lots of Mahon pledges that I didn't recognise at all.
And PvP?
Oh yeah - truly nothing beats hollow red squares.
Not gank squads or highly engineered griefers, but genuine CMDRs sticking to their guns and refusing to back down.
It looks like the Alliance have held Lave. For now.
But LRN have committed months of effort, and they are not going anywhere.

Seriously though, good effort to those guys backing LRN. We shall have to keep a closer eye on Lave in the future it seems.

I don't know anything about PMFs or Old Worlds, all I saw was an Independant Media Corporation try to oust a Democratic Representative Government for contol of the system, and rallied support based on strongly anti-Alliance rhetoric (judging solely from this thread and in game information).

A return to independence doesn't necessarily mean a return to dictatorship. I don't see anything wrong with allowing a bunch of people take over a planet when they have absolutely no background in politics, and the only reason they have public support is because they are on a popular show.
What could possibly go wrong?

I am a reasonably experienced player I think (6 weeks playing time ) but I an just getting more acuinted with the more communal side of Elite.
So maybe I am not seeing the bigger picture, but what is the good thing of taking lave out of alliance hands when it is an important strategic location for them in the old world's near quator leestI .

DNA-Decay post would suggest that the fight is over and that the AEDC have won. This is not the case. They may have the upper hand at the moment but all is not lost.
I am an Alliance member, but in this situation I fight under my own banner. I implore others to do the same. The Lave Radio Crew consider this system as their home and they want it under their stewardship. Letting them have this system is the decent thing to do. This is not a fight against the Federation or the Imperials. This is a fight for their home.
The Alliance are supposed to be the good guys. It's time we started acting that way.

Yes it is pretty confused. I'm confused by the actions of the AEDC. When did the Alliance become the Federation-Lite?
