Yes it is. I mean, you may have an axe to grind and see some kind of illuminati style mystery scooby doo falsehood but they have said they are limiting the space people play in to make it fun, if you want to make that a conspiracy then feel free. ;)

Or just take it at face value.

It is a demo at a games show made for people to experience a bit of mplayer pottering about, why would they not cordon off the area to encourage that? Better than having a dozen players scattered to the wind all doing different and frankly boring things. Either way it's like Burger King, have it your way :)

Peace

Because having people in a limited, empty space is boring to watch!

If it's there, why NOT let people explore it? Even if they are all out away from each other - interacting with space stations/NPCs or even a look at mobiglass and the mission system would be far more interesting to me as a backer than a handful of people flying around a barren surface shooting each other.

If they showed off what you say they have, there would be numerous tweets/articles/posts etc that all that stuff really does exist, and 3.0 isn't just a pipe dream. So by not showing it, they reinforce the more likely probability that it doesn't exist, otherwise they would show it.

If it's there, then this is a terrible marketing fail.

it's not a conspiracy, CIG is known for lying about things at gamescom.

As for "intentionally limiting the demo to make it more fun," what you are basically saying is "CIG removed the features people want to see and that would prove once and for all that they do actually have 3.0 and it's not a scam... so that people can shoot each other for 15 min a pop."

Okay, so either CIG are lying or they are so inept at decision making that they stuff their pillows with cactus needles.

lol this is a really weak defence of the blatant smoke and mirrors going on at gamescom. We won't show you the stuff that's made people fork over hundreds of millions of dollars because that wouldn't be fun!

How is limiting the play space in a game that's supposed to be about a massive open game world "fun"? Why not show off flying into space and landing on a station? Oh wait, because apparently that wouldn't be fun! Who'd want to watch or play that? Certainly not the people who've dropped thousands of bucks on spaceships. Booooring.

And I hate to break it to you, but, they're all doing frankly boring things anyway. All they've done is bumble around on the surface of a dull planet while the game goes goofy and occasionally hard locks. FUN!

Could you provide a link to a clip where they actually leave the atmosphere, or where there's a "reentry" style event (as per some of the screenshots which have been doing the rounds), because as far as I can tell that hasn't been shown, or is possible in the floor demo.

Wonder if that patch upload mid-show was to remove it due to some issue.....

So in nutshell - big CryEngine level, very rudimentary mechanics, some good looking assets, nothing that resembles game loop, nothing that resembles MMO.

At this point good looks really won't help CIG. If ED would offer space legs just this hour, CIG would be done for.

But as FD have admitted they don't have immediate plans to do so, so CIG might be safe for some time (ironically).

This.

If 3.0 would be real, allowing exploring it would just make fans run wild with fantasies and would support SC cause big time. I don't buy 'quality' claim, not anymore. After 5 years you want to show SOMETHING to go on. This is nothing compared to what even basic premise, initial KS premise promised.

Just skipping through some livestream footage now, with two Cutlasses flying around in orbit after they each docked their Nox. Graphically really nice. Looks like they want to fly the Nox out the back in space but the cargo ramp won't open. But the side door worked. That was pretty cool. The first thing I would try is to de-orbit riding the bike!

EDIT: Wow! He did it! But the bike probably killed the rider as it rapidly slowed to hover just above the surface but that was amazing to watch.

Yes, they are obviously very open and honest about the whole demo. My favourite part was how the viewpoint was immediatly switched when one of the countless problems occurred, especially glitching, jittering and crashing. I mean it is no secret that this program suffers from crashing since a long time, so it is an 'elegant' solution to let the server reset every 15 minutes :p

Now watching a chase sequence. The flight model appears to be very mouse friendly. Next to no apparent inertia, you point in a direction and the ship goes there, like they have no mass.

"Let's find some other players on the map". Slip of the tongue or....?

If you watch it again though, they weren't really in orbit - just high up. When they try to rendezvous, one of the ships has already fallen back towards the surface. The rear door not opening was quite embarrassing. Although not as embarrassing as the attempts to get the bike out of the side door. The other streamer made such a hash of it they cut away from him and came back to him floating in space. Then the bike fell back to the surface and managed to mystically recover 5 inches off the deck - not particularly realistic.

It's pretty, sure, but functionally it's a bit of a mess.

OhOhOh, please do try and load a CryEngine level the size of a Daymar moon. Please stream it if you can.

Like we took '3.0 releases in just a few weeks, probably 2016' at face value? Or 'Sq42 will be released 2015'? Or 'we will definitely support all main VR sets'? Or, well, anything they have ever said?

Better question: if you know someone is known for selling mini-demos and slices as 'actual game' since forever, why would you assume that what you saw is anything other than what he does every single time?

Well 2 seconds of googlin later, this is what I found on basic Lumberyard:

When creating a new level you have the ability to make a heightmap up to 4096x4096, and a terrain texture with dimensions up to 16,384x16,384. This will result in a terrain size of 4096km x 4096km.

If this does no offer what you need, lumberyard gives you full source allowing you or your dev team to expand this to how you see fit.

Thanks

Is that moon larger then 1.6777216 × 10^13 m2? If not, then the engine is capable of doing it out of the box with map streaming. I mean it looked nice, but not really breaking any boundaries on making a large map, if the engine can do it anyway, since it is "marketed" as MMO-Ready.

Nox inside an Ursa? Yeak kinda, but the player clipped through the Ursa when getting off the bike and was stuck behind the wheels. Cool that they could do that though.

Just curious as to whether members of the public, your bog standard Gamescom attendee, has had a chance to play this?

Yes, they do. Apparently the line is about 60mins. You get 15 mins, then the server resets and they kick that lot out and get a new lot in.

I wonder how much direction they are given or they can go off and do what they want? I'd get in that Nox, pick a direction and just keep going. Try and put as much distance between me and the spawn point as possible.

This is a giant slap for every backer that still held to some hope after a year.
Please someone not blinded by "hate" explain to me why people are experiencing a "3.0 Demo" with ALL of 3.0 advertised features missing beside planetsurfaces.
Why couldnt player get a stabilised version of the 3.0 presentation from last year fully playable afterall that was real gameplay wasnt it?!

But i am sure CR will show ANOTHER live gameplay presentation in the theater showing the real deal that people didnt get to play because its to unstable...after witnessing the "3.0 Demo" crashing every 15 minutes...this is just beyond mindbogeling. How can people defend this? Its a desaster i thought they couldnt get my expectations lower then Bedrock! They proved me wrong!

Star Citizen has for me just become the biggest *ape of a genre in gaming history... make them STOP...please! Space games dont deserve that anymore...make it stop...i beg you...
