Well that's kinda strange considering that you cant open other player's ships before they open themselves.

And my gang mostly go after other pvp minded groups and not exactly single players alone unless they are griefers. We actually let newbies go on board our ship and show them around and I think the community actually playing should not be mistaken by the minority who focuses mostly on the drama. But you will be glad to know that ship lock's are coming with 3.0.
sued.

I was into SC pretty early, so no newbie really. That said, when they released the ships for us to be able to fly, there were no locks and players were really getting fairly unhappy that ships were gone when they managed to find the deck. Other players would wait arounb outside for ships to spawn and just nip in and fly off. Its not a big deal, because you just went back to the console and got another one, but its time lost playing, that you don't want lost, especially when it happened for the third or fourth time.

Anyway..
Good to hear locks are in-game or coming. I've not been in SC for a really long time now. But as said, I would very easily come back, if and when the PU settles down. If they get it all to work o.k. that is.;)

The surprising thing for me is really how the 2017 playable demo is so massively reduced in scale compared to the demo of 3.0 in 2016. It looked spectacular back then (don't forget the sandworm). But the today demo looked more like a cheap battlefield clone with less players, less vegetation/architecture and a weird flightmodel, well, and tons of glitches, no realistic gravity and no missions.

I also found it weird to watch adults enjoying themselves over driving vehicles into loading bays of other vehicles. What did I miss here?

They're not only years behind where they were claiming they would be by now, they're years behind where Roberts continues to claim they are, and that can't be excused by nebulous claims about "quality" or "scope". That's what rubs me up the wrong way.

^^ This exactly! Added to which they still have the gall to hold regular JPG sales whilst all the time having the audacity to claim that they're the saviours of gaming and attempting something never done before...

"Can I fit that in there?" is just one of the fundamental instinctive questions humans have. It's on the same level as "will it blend?"

I love the hate against AAA games by pro SC folks. Say what you will, AAA games are far from ideal but they get released.
AAA games like The Witcher 3 can be exceptionally good.

Maybe citizens are preparing themselves for Star Citizen unable to provide a AAA experience after burning through 160 million dollars of funding?

Not sure on that, Arma3 does calculate the ballistic from the gun. IIRC so do all the others too. Included Operation Flashpoint, the first.

Didn't know Arma and Op Flashpoint were using the gun as the point of origin. Makes sense with how the reticule worked in Op Flashpoint. Anyway that was a sticking point for Star Marine, that was a requested feature.

On topic -

Pupil to Planet
Morrow Tour
Ilfonic Star Marine
Mission Giver
Sandworm
Big CryEngine Level 2017

Also, nice to see Ben posting. Hang in there.

First 2 parts of live stream thats currently going live:

to be positive - visually it does looks great and makes me want space legs in Elite even more. And yes, from what I can tell they do fly seamlessly from space to surface. Shame flight model is still no existent.

Looks nice, but it always has. First video 28 mins in. Wait for the gunfight. Awful lag, even on a LAN. Can't imagine Fidelity Roberts would be happy with that.

What, Wing Commander: The Movie isn't good enough for you? He changed cinema forever with that one. That's why Star Wars is always put down as a "cheap Chris Roberts ripoff."

It would be interesting to see perfectionism somehow infect Star Citizen, but I would be more inclined to applaud a sudden infestation of basic competence. Tho not as flashy, it tends to be something good to have when executing an ambitious project. But what do I know, I've only worked on things that were released.

No no,you get it all wrong Wing Commander movie is example of what happened when perfectionist like Croberts don´t have unlimited budget and rushed the project.....If he didn´t have this problems I bet he will be still on set shooting that movie today....hmmm...[wacko]....

Until I saw how glitchy it was I was convinced it was a totally separate entity built for demo, now it looks like it is in fact the planetside stuff running on the same frankenengine that brought us Commandos in Underpants clipping through Space.

It's a step backwards from what was being supposedly being played live last year, but I see why they had to let people get their hands on *something*

So Brian Chambers has said lots of stuff is disabled and they're aiming for Dec to release this?

So it's the same broken engine with a single new environment?

Where's the AI? Where's Item 2.0? Where's the gameplay? Where's the edge of the map?

I believe the streamers were being paid to be there, so it's not a huge mystery. If a dehydrated man walks out of the desert he's not really interested in the quality of any water at hand.

If there was a 3.0 it would have been available at Gamescon. Instead they went with a limited playthrough of one small portion of the "game." I'll bet the demo from 2016 was the same basic thing. Has anyone seen a sandworm in the released game? They can't show off 3.0 because it does not exist. They are more focused on ship sales than getting an actual game into the hands of the people who already (over)paid for it.

If you have money invested, I'd get it out until they prove that they have something viable. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but from the playthrough I have seen, my cash is getting no where near this train wreck. Consider this began a year before Elite Dangerous started development and there is still little people can actually do.

The more I think of it its probably this. Another hand crafted sterile environment that looks pretty with very little to do in it - apart from "messing about" they did not actually PLAY the game yet again. No real gravity as it seems (hovering ship and stuff), no atmosphere yet, no new flight model, no "gameplay loop", same issues with physics, ships has no mass and so on. Pretty much same bugs and lack of content but on different stage. As I posted earlier, I liked few thing that they showed but the core of PU is still same old same old.

The physics and collision detection are absolutely abysmal.

They'd have been better off just sticking to promo videos and forgetting about gamescon this year.

According to David Swofford this "blows NMS planetary landings out of the water".

Ben does anyone in UK even know if this is genuinely 3.0 with "stuff disabled", there has been a serious amount of money raised and nobody seems to know what's being shown for it after 6 years.

Blink twice for "nobody seems to know"

Landing gear didn't compress as the front gear didn't actually make contact with the surface. Still being worked on apparently.

FM was always horrible in SC but seeing now all of this on planets/moons feels just wrong and even worse then before....there is no sense of gravity or mass at all, physics are non-existent,ships act basically same as they are in space, looks like they are inside of their own bubble.....+ all the glitches,bugs&errors.....yeah....that is just BAD&SAD.......
