you get what you want, you make your story.
any game has technical limitations - more detailed characters/vehicles you drive more network code needs to be sent = less players can be together without problems.
only reall MMO by your definition then are text based web games, because there can be all in same place and even then they limit "character" output to hundreds of entries not to spam browser.
anyway ED is MMO just not the MMO where anyone sees anyone if they are in same place ALL the time, but if they are person of interest you WILL see them always, so again - how you play will determine your experience.
there are no graphical games where are no instances/shards. Does that mean there are no MMO's?you will have 90% of AI to annoy and pirate and 10% of players, there will be trade routes where you can find other players and you will have to WORK hard to find such routes and locations where to interdict them. it's not just go there and PC's will await you, piracy is hard ;p
How are we going to pirate other players when all they are going to do is trade in SP?
yes the above has hit the nail on the head. For those who want to just Gank trader players, you will be dissapointed, as you will have to put some hard work in to do it, not just attack traders who are probably not equiped to defend themselves overly well. For those that want to trade, and this is a space trading game, they run the risk of player interdiction, but are not going to get ganked every time they try and take their 5 tons of algae to recover from the last time they were attacked by the last player sat there waiting to make the game unplayable for them.
i have no intention of (and never wanted to ) play anything other than single player off line. i simply cant stand the attitude of the under 12's that seem to be the majority of players , and dont get me started on those with greater years who get led into behaving like an under 12
It's not all about pirating other players, there are NPCs you can have a bash at, and there's more of them to fill out the galaxy. Just wanting to pewpewpew other players everytime you see one ... well, each to their own I suppose.
Merged x4 threads...

It will request you to upgrade in the launcher.
Added to main thread.
First of all this game was not touted as a purely trading sim!!You dont seem to realise that with proper systems in place traders don't have to feel vulnerable if trading in more secure areas! But yes for the more lucrative trades some risk vs reward is great a thing, AND btw I am more a trader than a pirate! I like that risk and that danger being present but with proper systems in place - ie crime systems, escape mechanisms etc you can trade relatively safely. People also forget that with traders and pirates come bounty hunters, security runners - all these role playing elements!! BUT alas this will not come to fruition!
Its not telling me to upgrade, should i file a ticket?
I play as a trader, I dont want to pewpew other players. Im 30 years old btw and not some little kid. I just prefer the experience of player with others and having that danger present.
What I see happening (outside of those playing purely SP and Co-op) however is players making money in SP and then just entering PVP with their combat ships and the "all" mode will be pure deathmatch!
You can still play single player online and not be disturbed by other players. And you can start to play single player online *today* already.
Offline makes sense if you have problems with connection or just live somewhere without constant Internet connection.
