PvP Griefers are seriously making me consider quitting

As of present I don't see any reason a player would be forced into engineering, seeing as how the odds of running into a CMDR with an engineered ship who also would want to steal your cookies is astronomically low. Dealing with current NPC's certainly doesn't require engineering. With that said, if the Thargoids invade, that might be a different story.

Very true. And again, I'd not participate in Thargoid content unless it was thrust upon me. IF I needed to engineer my ship (yes, single. One unengineered DBS is all I own ingame) in order to continue playing....well, not repeating myself.

Not very anxious for the Thargoid content, am I. It might mean I never log in again. Depends on how Frontier does this thing.

Sounds like you don't really enjoy very much of the game. After reading your posts which actually list feature after feature that you don't like, I have to wonder what you even do in ED. Personally, I have mixed feelings about the Thargoids. If all there are to them are Thargoid CZ's or USS's then my interest will be non-existent. On the other hand, if they pose a threat to humanity such as an invasion front that covers a portion of the bubble and then engage in interdictions throughout the bubble, then I'll be excited. It goes without saying that they need to be tougher and smarter than current NPC's, too. Sounds like this scenario might drive you away, but that's too bad: you can't really expect Fdev to develop a game for a player who hardly enjoys any of it.

Why are you playing then?

The Elite franchiese has Thargoids as part of it's main staple. I wasn't even born when the first game came out but I watched some youtube playthroughs of the other Elites and sorry to say but Thargoids are one of the main parts of the entire series. If you're playing this game to literally just ignore Engineers, ignore Thargoids... then what exactly is even in this game for you? Trading? Exploring? That can be done in Solo or even Mobius where you won't have to worry about hostile players. It sounds like you are wanting the game to mold to you instead of you molding to it.

Pirating is pirating, not griefing, you can always just wake out and why do you just carry cargo around, I can understand something like a Hutton mug it something don't want to get pirated don't make yourself a target

Dude, not your call to make. If someone would rather not engage in something, then you have no right to judge. His game, his account, and his choice. Allow other people to make their own decisions, regardless if you agree with them or not.

This is why I went to mobius, live and let live. I believe in the right to be left alone.

As jason above my post that you quoted said, the guy has a history of posting about things he doesn't like which is most of the content in this game. As if he expects the game to cater to him, not him enjoying the game for what it is, and Jason asked the same thing I did. Why is he playing if he's unhappy with EVERYTHING? I'm not making a call on what he should do, merely pointing out stuff.

Yep, of course you're correct. Different modes to choose from, different activities to engage in, the individual ultimately deciding what it is that they want to do. I don't contest that at all, and I simply asked Mercy what he did like because all I ever see from him is what he does not and I was genuinely curious.

And to my point about alien content, if the Thargoids are done correctly, even being in Mobius might not save players seeking to opt out of the challenge:)

@Phazon, I'd bet you 100 spacebucks that 'ol thirsty here has me on ignore, which would explain why he went for you instead of both of us.

The general implication behind asking "why are you even playing" is almost always just someone saying "this game isn't for you" without actually saying it. Seen that plenty of times, even directed at me, and I don't whine about the game too much, just some of the people playing it. There is a certain amount of implicit judgement in that one question. If you are going to be that guy, at least have the decency to say it plainly and own up to it, don't beat around the bush.

Also, if he were genuinely unhappy with everything, then I would expect that he wouldn't play or be on the forums. Clearly, there is something there that he does like. Don't engage in hyperbole, it doesn't work most of the time.

I don't know his post history, and I frankly don't care. I am going to respond to what I can see, not going to dig through everything someone has to say. And saying that jason barron thinks the same as you do does not raise your credibility. As it turns out, I don't see any of jason's posts anymore as it is. God bless the ignore button, saves a ton of time.

I'm 49 and have the reflexes of a narcoleptic sloth.

Well I'm 44 and Marfan's syndrome has robbed me of my eyesight and reflexes and I still fly in open heck I have only seen two people in as many weeks. As for bones creaking mine grind but I'm still going and will play ED till I cant fly anymore.

For me it's a MMO of sorts so I try to play as such.

I see, so you're a one mindset person who claims to be promoting peoples ability to think and speak for themselves and play how they want, but the moment others have opinions that differ from yours you call them basically any form of bigot you can think of or that we are acting like jerks (now even I am though) to justify some form of self rightheousness and will either slap an ignore button cause you can't handle someone on the Internet saying words that could "offend" you or you abuse the report feature claiming to be trolled or harassed in order to make yourself have a safe space (probably can even turn on the waterworks tears too). Might wanna put me on ignore then both here and in-game, cause now if I catch you in Open I'll be sure to "pirate" you, and by pirate I mean I'll just destroy your ship and hope some of the hopeful cargo you have (carry low pressure diamonds please!) survives. Stick to Mobius.

*jasonbarron pockets his 100 spacebucks with an evil chuckle*

Yep you we're right lol, honestly I don't like getting nasty on the forums but attitudes like that "trigger" me and by "trigger" I mean I shake my head at the mindset. To date I have no one on ignore in Elite, on any forum, or any game I play with the exception of WoW and that is literally just the alts of one person spamming racist stuff when I was trying to set up a Twitch Stream (had all of a glorious 3 viewers once when my upload wasn't garbage and then I gave up on it) cause he kept character hoping each time I'd block him cause I didn't want that stuff on my channel, granted in the end my ISP despite supposedly giving me over 10 MBPS upload had me having problems with both OBS and Xsplit (and i know how to configure those btw) so I gave up on being a streamer lol... my area still uses disgusting copper coaxial cables even for internet and not glorious stable fiber.

Hey, why don't you just mind your own business? Everyone decides whether to play based on their own personal ED cost/benefit analysis...& accordingly, are entitled to give an opinion about the game. This guy/gal certainly doesn't have to explain him/herself to you.

I consider ED to be a passion - like my football team - in this analogy, I love my club...have a season ticket, travel around the country to watch them religiously, but trust me if they perform badly, I & other fans let them know about it...to continue this 'banging my head against a brick wall' (I suspect) metaphoric exercise, I also love Sadio Mane but am pretty indifferent to Alberto Moreno/Dejan Lovren. I pay my money & give my opinions - positive & negative - while continuing to give my loyal support to the team as a whole. The same rights apply to any product/service for all paying customers.

DISCLAIMER...unless you actually purchased his/her copy of the game ofc? In which case, you have my full support in this argument! What's that? Oh...shush then!

You can, it's called get good at piloting and engineer your ship. I barely play as other games like Overwatch really trigger my ultra competitive nature, yet I still have a ludicrously decked out Corvette, a decent ish FDL, and plans for a Sidewinder and a Vulture engineered to hell and back, along with maybe a federal pew pew gunship and a racing courier, and an exploraconda. I'm not some godly amazing pilot or anything but I at least have enough confidence in my ships to be able to survive a sudden "gank" or "griefing" as you call it.

You can too, stop playing the victim card and have some confidence in yourself, take some time to Engineer your ships, and unlock the Engineers you need. You're gonna need them in the future probably anyways vs Thargoids (which at minimum means palins thrusters / dirty drives 5 and hes one of the harder ones to unlock). Just get out there and Shia Lebouf it, just do it. You'll find yourself having fun with the game more when you realize you've gained the ability to do whatever you want. Most "hostile" player actions are starter systems, Shinrata, CGs. And would, if doing CG's is that important to you, to one jump before the CG system hop into private or open to drop the goods off at the station be that much of a problem if you are that worried about being killed by another commander (a feature even advertised as one of the selling points of the game)?

Just try engineering man, you'll need it in the end for PvE content too so just do it already.

No, you can't. If you want to be competitive in PvP and kill a bunch of gankers at alien ruins, you'll need a PvP focused, engineered ship and a bunch of like minded people. That means stopping to play the game to join your stupid PvP fights that we have no interest in. It's not about "git gud".

Whatever. I just don't care enough. Twist my words however you want. Nice that you focus on the very last sentence of my post and nothing else. Cherry-picking much?

Yeah, sure, try and find me in open. Good luck. Where I am, it won't matter what mode I am in, you don't have a ship that jumps far enough fast enough. And I don't care about contests of measuring e-peen.

True, unless you are at a CG, capitol system, alien ruins, engineers (the irony!) or at Sag A ;)

Do you always write so much nonsense when you don't understand someone?

Yeah the barrier to dabbling in pvp is severe (post engineers). There's no doubt about that. I'm a low level pvper. I can put up a fight but will generally lose to any known names out there. On the flip side, my barely capable mix of practice, skill and engineering will devastate anyone without a fair bit of practice and engineering themselves.

I find the same to be true for myself.
