OMG - Thargoid Cinematic was ACE!

So September 26 we can start some serious bug hunting.

I wonder if the fact that we saw avatars talking in this cinematic means anything in terms of getting in-game cutscene content to advance story. Could the same tech be used to display animated character portraits for mission briefings? etc.

"The same tech" being . . . video?

In all seriousness, on the livestream they specifically said that we should not attribute any significance to the animated avatars talking, and that it does not represent anything that's coming.

My thoughts exactly. They haven't attacked any humans yet (this time) have they, or did I miss that Galnet article? Yet we've seemingly developed a load of weapons and countermeasures (countermeasures to what exactly, having a greenish yellow light shone at us because that's all they've done so far..?) and are now chasing them around the galaxy mob-handed trying to blow them up for the lulz.

Remember this guy's face. When we're huddling inside a burning Coriolis on the edge of the bubble trying to work out whether we're going to run out of food or oxygen first, he's the one to blame.

Well, prior to this event, there have been numerous wreckage sightings, bearing tell-tale signs of being destroyed by unknown weaponry; not to mention an obliterated battlecruiser* which was part of the hunt for the "THARGOID RETURN" message, If we go further back, as per official lore, humans might've started (and then brutally ended) the first conflict, but I still can't help we're missing something important -- like the answer to the question why did they return in the first place.

Thargoid civil war. One side fled (accidentally towards us), the others follow. The first group hopes we get involved, slowing the second group down.

That thought occurred to me as well... that, or it was a forefront of a colonization effort (the Unknown Probe sending data on ammonia planets, as compared to a specific body, lead me onto that)... or both. The problem is -- we still don't know for sure. I do hope there will be more mysteries to uncover (and I'm quite certain that it will be the case) alongside the coming conflict.
