Offer: 100 meta-alloys for the thargoid base map event

Yep. That's why I'm not interested in any pay-out. :D

Mind you, it shouldn't be that painful, should it? One ship loads up with 100 collector limpets, and the other just dumps cargo (assuming large enough ships). Would that take more than a few minutes?

Depending where you do it, you're limited by the number you can drop at once before they self destruct. Also, lets assume the CMDR can fly off when all their cargo is droped without the age old bug of their cargo then not being accessible kicking back in.

Of course in an ideal world, you should just be able to dock ship-to-ship and do a simple/solid lump transfer IMHO - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=238907

Chance of getting an Unknown Artifact within 3 hours - 100%
Chance of getting an Unknown Probe before smashing your head against a wall (call it 5 hours) 30%.
Chance of getting an Unknown Link - 0%

Honestly mate thats just the tip of the iceberg, i tried to activate that thing several times with a bunch of others, we had enough probes and artifacts between us to trigger it half a dozen times but the Link just would not spawn and never has for me.

I've never seen an Unknown Link, and i've never come close to actually seeing a Thargoid.

Fact of the matter (which i posted a while back) is a lot of the content in this game that people pay equal money for is either hidden behind blind and pure luck, or parameters FD are not willing to announce.

Good luck with the machine though.

For the UP, you just need to fly around a planet at around 15Mm, at a speed >200m/sec.
If you don't get any USSs spawning, you're doing it wrong.
If you don't get a degraded/2 after about 15 minutes, quit to main menu and log back in.

For the UL, I'm afraid mode-flipping is your best bet.
If you're planning on visiting a base with other people, your best bet is to get there ahead of time, mode-flip until you get a UL spawn and then grab it.

I´m trading with other people from time to time. Simple rules... I never release more than 10 goods at one time, the other side must bring collector limpets and ideally have 10 active at one time. I wait before the other side gets those 10 and release another 10. It´s really a few mins spent and my only issue was with people that did not listen to reason and did things they shouldn´t have (having 1 limpet active, releasing 100 tons at one time and then looking at it poofing etc. etc.).

Got both the UA and UP within an hour last night. UP turned up in second USS (about ten minutes). Ok, I was lucky - but it really shouldn't take more than an hour even if you're not lucky.

Haven't got UL yet, but that drops inside the structure I believe? Didn't realise that could be random, will go and try and find one. Just logged in, no-one at the base right now it seems.

Understood, but if the two of you could go through a docking process which then opens up the ability for CMDR A to give CMDR B stuff, or the two of them, to swap/trade stuff (at the same time), it might all be a bit more elegant, as well as maybe opening up some opportunities for other gameplay? - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=238907

TBH, I suspect that the people who've struggled to collect a UP are just entering orbit, throttle to zero and then waiting for a USS to spawn.
That doesn't work. You need to be doing at least 200m/sec
If you still don't get one spawning, menu-logging seems to work pretty reliably.

For the UL, they're in the chambers at the bottom of the ramps around the perimeter of the bases.
In my experience, if you check one room and there's none there, you're not going to find one at all.
When that happens it's time to menu-log. Again.

I dont know if its a bug or just more intentional RNG but surely that UL should just spawn when you have the 2 items imho.

We have spent 4 days (two CMDRs) around the right planet and right distance, I would say 10 hours total at least. The other CMDR found it once but got infinite dropping into instance bug... :D Apart from that, nothing...

UL didn´t spawn for us yesterday at all, luckily other CMDR came by and had two from before.... That saved us.

Hmm... Just tried to find one, no luck. According to another thread you're meant to scan the Unknown Uplink with the probe in your hold for the UL to drop. That didn't work either. I have logged out again, so I'll log in and try again shortly.

Waiting for me? Will be online within 2 hours! :p

I dunno.
Unless it's a "one time only" thing, I don't think that's correct.
I've scanned the uplinks at every base (just to get a surface POI) and it's still been hit & miss whether ULs have appeared.
It's usually a case of trundling around the rooms, confirming they're not there and then mode-flipping until that changes.

And, when they do spawn, it's not like they've been rare.
You check the rooms once and they're empty, re-log a couple of times and suddenly every alcove-thing has one available.

I may well be at the base all week at this rate. :D I'll probably still be wandering around trying to work things out when you come online! I'm in Mobius at the moment, but can move over to Open if/when you arrive.

I should add, though, that this base is far more impressive in VR than it was when I last visited it (without). It's also easier to navigate and work out where things are. So, I'm going to be here until I've seen the lightshow (and hopefully a Thargoid, but not too worried about that - there should be lots of them around next week!).

Don't know if this thread has been resolved but I may be able to help. I am actually making my way to the alien structures now. Of course, you may have this solved by then.

As for the UL. There is a bug that causes it not to spawn the first time. My rule of thumb is once landed at a site, log out and then back in and the UL should appear everytime.

Solo mode was the key.

You don't need to scan anything. Just go into the chamber (I had the UP in my cargo hold, in case that is important) and the unknown links drop down when you go up to the devices that hold them.

So, I'm now parked up at the base with all three items and ready to start a light-show. :)

Nice. Yeah, it's annoying about the UL's again, for some reason the initial load bugs them. So once you arrive, in any mod, it's best to just relog and then go from there.

Seen the pretty lights a couple of times now. Good to meet up with you Semris. :)

I wish I could work out how to put chat back onto local, though... Once I've selected someone from the friends list, I haven't found a way to then revert back to local. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious... Anyone care to enlighten me (and suitably embarrass me, I'm sure :) )?

I left the UA and UL there, and attempted to leave the UP too. However, I did have the UP in my SRV hold when I boarded my ship. I selected to jettison it (ship is full anyway), but I then got a transaction error. When I logged back in, I had been magically transported outside the ruins in the SRV. No UP in hold (I presumed it had jettisoned ok, but apparently not).

Am going to find another UP and head back, will probably be an hour or so.

Samelike, it was good stuff. I´m done for today but I might join you tomorrow again, if you will be still sticking around the bases. :)

And I owe you 100 meta-alloys. I know you probably don´t want them, but don´t want to be known for breaking deals. If you really don´t want them, just tell me and instead of keeping them for you I will get rid of of them to free cargo space.

Either way thanks and see you next time. o7

If he doesn't want them, my offer to accept 700 meta alloys from you as a gesture of goodwill still stands
