the entire toxicity problem in Elite's community today.

Elite's community is generating any toxicity you percieve, itself. Shifting the blame anywhere else doesn't wash.

If any one taking part in this thread or any other debate on the forums, finds it to be 'toxic' or a 'cesspool'..... perhaps they might like to take a moment and consider what their contribution has been.

Everyone has the option to simply 'not engage'.

The toxicity problem is that some people just cannot accept that others have a different playstyle and seek to badger them with accusations and psychoanalysis. Take a look at almost any page in this thread and you'll see someone that's salty about another person's playstyle hurling insults at OP or another PvPer.

The problem isn't us. We aren't the ones that stretched this throwaway thread out to 25 pages.

No but you created the oportunity and conditions. When you ask for hate, your are likely to get it.

It kind of brings a tear to my eye, really. When this day started I had no idea it would end with you standing on the same side of the field as I. In the shadows.

Shhh friend, they're supposed to be impartial. Keep saying they're on our side, and they'll revert back to theirs

The difference is that OP is consenting to it with one, and not the other.

Yet both videos make the same level of salt/toxicity/trash debate/etc. You also have to wonder if the victim in this case consented to be in this video. In a way he was shamed by sending the message of incompetence. You can see this incarnated in some of Algomatics posts.

I'm mildly curious - There seems to be the implication that if the victim had posted a vid saying look what the "bad" man did it would have been struck down - but what if the SDC guy had made a horlicks of his gank - say flown into the sun by accident and the Fuel corgi guy had posted a video of the result, would that video still have been allowed to stand ?
To be honest I think the problem is "naming and shaming" it's always awkward to enforce as technically it means you can barely say "thanks" to cmndr xy or z nevermind say look so and so is a pain in the rear.
Mind you if Star Citizen ever gets out - can you imagine the furore when folks expensive ships get blown up (stolen maybe even) - those forum boards are going to ne .... interesting.

And still they cry how the evil moderators are biased against them. Bless them.

And imagine my surprise when all of their little fanboys are now praising the moderators. I have to give credit and hand it to this thread, the irony is 24 karat :)

Well done boys. I take my hat off to you. [no sarcasm. I am genuinely impressed.]

Hey Ziggy, how do I get that hats-off emote?

I honestly agree with Ziggy. It's blindfully obvious that the post tries to create as much salt and anger as it could. SDC are good at that, look at their dislike buttons.

Sure it is allowed in game so the best I can do is to persuade them to not do it, which I know I won't.
The issue here is that it was posted in the forums, some of us think it violates one forum rule.

Which rule?

Both scenarios create anger and discomfort. I don't think it matters whether the OP wants it or not.

Because the forum rules state, it's not permitted to post WITH THE INTENTION TO. So, even if salt is the outcome, or a side effect, if it wasn't the prime intention, where's the rule breaking?

With this legal breach, I can agree. If the victim's name appears in the video, in which he's shown in a possibly shameful way then yes Kurama, it can consist a N&S infraction per se

Edit: it's not that hard, SDC guys, to put a black tape over the CMDR names you're killing, in your next forum posts. Certainly it's not harder than going to BP to pull out this awesome stuff you've done. For forum rules sakes

I can't believe I'm dying on this hill....I don't even PvP. :D
You still don't get it. This isn't about PvP.

OK, ignore everything else in this thread for the moment. Let's not talk about the event in the video specifically. Let's talk in general terms. What is your stance on forum posts where the explicit purpose is to cause an argument? Specifically, should it be allowed to remain on the forums after a moderator has taken notice of it?

I know mods get accused of taking sides in the PvP vs PvE debate alot, and that really sucks. I don't think that's fair, and it sucks that you guys get accused of taking sides. I mean, even if you did take a side and prefer one over the other, there shouldn't be an issue with that. PvE is fine. PvP is fine. It's a playstyle choice. Some people prefer competition, others couldn't care less about it.

If this was JUST a PvP video, my stance would be completely different. I can show you examples of PvP videos of engineered combat ships pirating unarmed, un-shielded traders that I have no issues with, and explain the difference between why I think those are fine, and how this one is different because the purpose was entirely to make people angry and start arguments. But I shouldn't really have to.

I refuse to believe that you ACTUALLY think this is just innocent PvP and not crossing the line into griefing territory. And since it's so obviously crossed that line, my question is why has no moderation action been taken here?

You ask :)

I don't think the forum I got it from would appreciate linking.

Hang on, is that right?
If the loser posts the vid, it would be name & shame, but if the victor posts, it's not name & shame?
Someone tell me that's not correct, because I see no difference in "loser ganked me", or "git gud loser".
Sadly, it does seem to be the case.

I have never seen a thread follow this trajectory before in all the days I've been on the forum. The mods are being uniquely fair handed in their approach today, given the subject matter. You seem to be denigrating them for allowing all voices to be heard as opposed to just the one's you approve of. I really appreciate that they didn't just shut everything down because the bulk of the forum community doesn't participate in PvP, and I'm not afraid to voice my appreciation for being treated fairly, no matter how much that bothers you.

Edit: and now I know why they have been uncharacteristically fair...well played, guys. Well played.

lol, I may be being a bit cynical, but maybe it was because they had an idea that a new PvP sub-forum was being created, and thought this would make a good starter thread for it. :D

Gotcha and a (rather deeply buried) part of my subconscious screams when I see this kind of stuff. This mini-me hungers for justice. It screams, "crime! Horror! Let's fight it!"

SDC ways of going about problems in ED are outlandish, cheesy, overreacting. Sometimes I really dislike them just like you and Fox and Ziggy and Mods and half the PvPers and…

But we can't deny. They're inside the game's rules restrictions. They're content providers. They move (a bit) the engines of ED. They bring new things. They're the same as Alex Brentnall, if diametrally opposed in ideology, they still move the game up the same way. They're the Villain the Evil we need. They make us "waste" our precious 21th century time in such lengthy threads in the forums, because WE ALL LOVE THIS GAME. We all are more than happy to be psychologically sabotaged into posting here, about internet pixels, about game drama.

And there's the value in it. Hating them / pittying them as we can / should, they are already an undeniable part of what ED is made of. I've posted some comments above about how I don't agree with Fuel rescuers' reason to exist, that I'm against them helping careless explorers who should lose their ships to fuel starving anyway. But I was being a hypocrite. Fuel rescuers are content providers. They role play. They, too, make this game great.

I'm a bit drunk but I just want to get the bigger picture. Conflict, antagonism, friendship, epicness. FDev has given us the tools to make up unforgettable stories ourselves. Let's try and engage more as a community of opposites and friends. Let's make our time more valuable, even if a few times it means "losing" time used gathering explo data and trading. There must be ways for us to grow up as spacers, with all differences, villains, good guys, forum sarcasm-mongers, and such.

I love all of you people. It's a game… I'm actually crying now.

Woah, lol. I don't dislike sdc, I don't hate them. Don't hate the players.... ;)

This was a crummy act, and the only one I've ever bothered to comment on, but no I don't have any issue with them personally or as people.

Sometimes what they do is pretty funny. This wasn't one of those times.

Yeah, no kidding! Logged into the forums and wondered if something was wrong with my browser, lol!

Yep. So, this is going to be the slush pile where everything PvP related (at mod definition & discretion naturally) is going to get banished. PvErs should all be hi fiving and doing handstands right about now:)

lol, I may be being a bit cynical, but maybe it was because they had an idea that a new PvP sub-forum was being created, and thought this would make a good starter thread for it. :D

Yes, that's my thinking as well. Anything that offends in Dangerous Discussions can now be banished to this sub forum. Mods knew it was coming so relaxed their usual pro-PvE anti PvP standards.
