Alien archeology and other mysteries: Temporary discussion hub

So I haven't played since March, during the ruin scanning thing. Sounds like a lot has been happening, but trying to catch up on 800+ pages of forum posts is kind of hard. I hope alien encounters are still a rare thing. It would lose its mystique if it became routine.

I'm tracing as many of the Thargoid markings as I can and putting them in an easier-to-see format. I'd adding them to this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Oresrians-)?p=5957606&viewfull=1#post5957606

They were already discussing the markings so I put them over there.

Here's hoping my thread eventually get's a sticky - I don't mind re-naming the title of it to something more appropriate (like: The Guardian Research Division). I think the Guardian stuff will get swamped (already has, really) by all the Thargoid stuff and it isn't represented too well in the old mega-threads run by Canonn (because there's just so much information, everything has become a haystack, and if you don't keep up with the mega-thread, lots of stuff gets over-looked) - a little variation goes a long way :)

Id like to see that Guardians thread sticky also, Its a good idea to have seperate sticky threads for Thargons, Guardians and maybe even another for Brain Trees and stuff in Californa nebula.

The Thargoid FAQ is very good, maybe keep that thread for just the facts, have people posting new discoveries there that can be added to the front page and this thread for general discussion.

Just a dumb sugestion... i didnt try it.

I got an hyperdiction yesterday where one of the thargoid ships stayed 500m from my ship all the time. I didnt have anything in my inventory so i just left afyer a while observing it.

Here is my suggestion. They kind of comunicate with light shows like deep underwater animals... DID ANYONE TRY TO USE THE SHIP LIGHTS TO COMUNICATE? i could observe that the thargoid lights were off... maybe he was expecting light flicking?

It may be dumb... or it may work? It would be extremely cool tho ^^

Could these symbols have something with growth to do? Sort of like rings on a tree? So they start out as barnacles and then as they grow older more layers are added signifying how old or far in their "life" they've come - could sound far fetched, but just throwing it out there.

Yesterday I dropped into a number of USS, and to me all cases were similar, if not the same. They came to scan me, than staring at each other, and then they turned red to attack me. No hyperdictions, probably my Cobra MkIV doesn't appear dangerous enough.

I attempted to check out how big the non-human USS bubble is, and whether it continues towards COL70. It doesn't, USS stop appearing about 100ly away from Merope.

first ever witchspace interdiction.....systems shut down ....saw nothing.....systems back up...thargoid wake only. Not carrying anything "alien"

exciting , Interdicted....anticlimax......didnt even see the bogeyman

haha

I wasn't (quite) the first Fuel Rat to attempt this but, for the record, they don't seem to appreciate being refuelled ..
Don't worry, we all understand people slow down when they get old :p ;)

I panicked when it only scanned me (I understand you can now hold still during this bit), and then rammed it in my excitement to see the limpet go in... (re: don't crash into the client) so yeah, not my finest moment - except first! :D

So after these CGs for useless stuff finish, I hope Tiana or The Sarge have a CG for Thargoid-Fuel Transfer Limpet Controllers.

My first thought that this marks are Thargoid ships ranking system. For now i saw three different inner "circles" and they can be combat/trade/explorer ranks. Outer "circles" can be a grade of their rank.

Another slightly different mood in another lvl 5 threat USS, this time the thargoid flew straight towards me, and I flew backwards. It closed in at 350 meters and scanned me. In my cargo hold, I had Thargoid Sensor ( ex UA) and a damaged escape pod. After scanning me it kept its distance ( me still flying backwards). I had the impression it was waiting for something. Then it went hostile, and stayed hostile all the time. ( There was nothing left to pic at the USS.) It picked up the black box.

The fact Thargoid ships are so unique looking, yet they are apparently identical (as expected, since there's probably only the one ship object in the game) apart from this symbol makes me think it's definitely significant. But how or why I've no idea where to start.

Had two encounters yesterday in two NHSS’s and would like to share my observations:
When I jumped in I immediatly stopped the engines to get a first impression and overview, I was approximately 3-4 km away from the wrecks and the alien ships. I also did not deploy weapons as we know they can’t be harmed (or nearly can’t be). After (estimated) 10 seconds or so they noticed me, deployed weapons (as in the near past we have introduced ourselves as idiots – congratulations), approached on me, scanned me, and after that turned away continuing their investigation on the wrecks (2 clippers and 1 cutter). I speeded up a little bit to get a closer look to what they were doing, but when approaching less than 3km they turned towards me and the swarm seemed to form up ready to attack. I immediatly increased distance to them again and they also continued their “investigation” behaviour. After it had scanned all wrecks, it retracted it’s weapons and jumped out.
So:
1. if you don’t attack they also won’t do so (research limpet seems to be interpreted as an attack)
2. keep distance between 3-4km and it won’t attack
3. referring to observations many others made: if you have something in cargo hold that is related to their species they get hostile and attack

Maybe it could be an option to attack the swarm itself (frag cannons and/or shock mines to disturb the swarm formation), wanted to test that yesterday but whilst docking in Obsidian Orbital I was ganked by a bunch of brainiacs.....
