Maybe it could be an option to attack the swarm itself (frag cannons and/or shock mines to disturb the swarm formation)

I spent one encounter with them wailing on me trying to target the swarm with my weaponry (nothing targetted, so firing in straight lines). Did manage a few visible hits, but didn't noticeably reduce the swarm.

Ramming might be more effective. They do bunch together shortly before spreading out to fly around your ship. A well timed boost might catch them.

Could be worth a try - I'll try frags today (and hope to survive).

I've had some fun with the Thargoids yesterday and here are my observations:

1) Thargoids attack when you carry their paraphernalia
2) Ejecting Thargoid equipment does not distract them from chasing you
3) Flashing lights, honking at them has no effect
4) Honking at a probe being tractored by a scout produced an EMP burst but did not disable my ship
5) NHSS spawn as low as 700 km above planetary surface but flower ships refuse to descend below certain altitude. For a body of 1300 km radius, the scout turned back to leave at 150 km above the surface. If you then carefully decrease the distance between you and the scout, you can keep it hanging at 5-7 km distance. It will just float around, neither closing in on you nor leaving.

I wanted to pull a scout to crash in a planetary canyon but it seems they're too smart to go down that easily. Remains to be seen how well they navigate asteroid fields.

"Using nickel and iron, which are cheap materials, we were able to make the electrocatalysts active enough to split water at room temperature with a single 1.5-volt battery," said Hongjie Dai, a professor of chemistry at Stanford. "This is the first time anyone has used non-precious metal catalysts to split water at a voltage that low. It's quite remarkable, because normally you need expensive metals, like platinum or iridium, to achieve that voltage."

And water is Hydrogen and Oxygen, which you can split easily with electrolysis so I guess you divert the Hydrogen to your engines and the oxygen to life support.

Yup, theoretically it should be possible to use Iron+Nickel as a catalyst for what's(apparently) called an Oxygen Evolution Reaction - given our ships' ability to scoop stars, etc, it kinda makes sense.

...and this is a game lol :D

Stupid - though obvious - question:

did anyone check for Non Human Signal Source in Orbit of Ammonia-Planets yet ?
Maybe a location to find threat 6 there ?

Good morning y`all, opend a thread before but could make sense to post here too...
Did anyone checked out the Listening Post at Varati recently? I did a quick google search about some relevant keywords like Systemnames but just found a few posts from the Beta so it seems to me this is something new:

Not sure if this was something new i decided to just give it a go and had quite a fun time folowing the clues:

In the end all i got was a (realy eyecandish) Datapoint with some "Unusual encrypted files" but maybe there is something more to find** (had to catch a certain ride in the bubble so i didnt further investigate ^^)

Make sure to bring a fuel limpet if you want to check it out yourself :)

except the Cete and some Guardian Ruins

Don't worry, we all understand people slow down when they get old :p ;)

I panicked when it only scanned me (I understand you can now hold still during this bit), and then rammed it in my excitement to see the limpet go in... (re: don't crash into the client) so yeah, not my finest moment - except first! :D

So after these CGs for useless stuff finish, I hope Tiana or The Sarge have a CG for Thargoid-Fuel Transfer Limpet Controllers.

Cheeky blighter! These young'uns have no respect for their elders these days. :p

gz on the first refuel attempt tho!

Yes I spent some time looking for an unknown probe yesterday. Or thargoid probe now. Anyway, no threat 6, just 5s and 7s and 2s. UPs now show as NHSS threat 2 by the way.

Had a hyperdiction yesterday evening. Three Thargoid ships, two turned to scan me while the third sped off and jumped out. The other two just held position with my ship and I could only change my distance from them by boosting to around 350. I spent over half and hour with the two, photographing them (see further back in the thread). Honking, flashing lights, jetisonning and sending over refuel limpets had no effect (not really surprised). Ultimately ramming them turned them hostile. At this point they go red and deploy a circling cloud of Thargons. By retreating it does seem possible to hold them in this formation ..

.. but ultimately the Thargons then speed up their circling until they're a spinning blur around the main ship and then they come at you. To be honest the damage they deal at this point was nowhere near as bad as I expected and there was plenty of time to escape mass lock and jump back into SC.

Terrific experience only marred by a few quibbles ..

1) Don't know if it was bugged but the fact they sit there indefinitely seems a bit naff.

2) I'm gonna get really sick of the Thargoid aggressive encounter (drumming) music, it's the first time that I've felt that the ED music was not up to scratch.

3) The way the Thargoid ships held position with mine was totally unrealistic - they basically responded directly to my thruster inputs, if I thrust left they move left, thrust up and they move up ... not reacting (with a realistic reaction time delay) to the movements of my ship, but directly to my own control inputs.

Perhaps moving a certain way could be a doorway?

By this, I mean when they are copying our speed and movements, perhaps we should move in certain directions... like, thrust left, thrust left, thrust up, thrust down...

Think of it as a basic way of sign language? I'll see if I can get an encounter/hyperdicted to try this.

God, I hope not, that would be a bit naff wouldn't it? A bit like the old cheat codes where you press left, left, up, left, right, left, down ... to get infinite lives or somesuch.

Has anyone started mapping where the "Non-human signal source: [threat 5]" POIs appear?

We know that they're around Merope etc. but flying back to the bubble last night the last one I saw was at approximately 90Ly-100Ly from Merope.

Anyone found one further away?

Yep, I too returned to the bubble and encountered a Non-Human Signal Source (Threat 5) at 100ly from Merope. I can check later and give the exact system if someone is collating this info.

Be interesting to know if there is a static sphere of influence or if they are advancing towards the bubble.

I spent most of yesterday just going from one NON-HUMAN SS to the next. All the encounters were very peaceful, as usual.

The only thing I noticed that surprised me a bit, is that the Thargoid turnes green in the contact panel after scanning me. This is usually reserved for friendlies and allies. Makes me wonder if we all have a hidden individual relationship rank with them?

Noticed this too, even stays green when the Tharg get angry
