I'm not throwing toys, I was sharing an opinion that I'm certain a lot of people will share as well. The only way this becomes immature, resorts to insults or makes it personal because of you. Using rhetoric such as "simple feature" are rhetoric to diminish my completely valid opinion. Traveling from place to place to claim rewards for credits is simply illogical, I can't spend hours doing something so illogical while not having fun in a game that's supposed to be fun. It will be maddening.

From another thread:

Hello Commanders!

Yes, it is possible to occasionally get a not so good deal from missions. However, most of the time they should pay reasonably well, and when dealing with delivery and collection missions you have to remember that the markets are dynamic, which means sometimes a mission will be better/worse than other times.

We will be looking into having delivery missions that pay on arrival, to help spread players around (having to return to the start destination can OK sometimes though.

.... so, some missions may pay on delivery.

The "they can keep my $75" part of your post did sound a lot like ballistic educational / amusement devices were in flight prep....

Another vote for making the missions one way.

A rather odd design decision.

Seems a bizzare choice since a great many of us are explorers.
It halves the number of missions you can do unless you are lucky enough to get a return mission when going to get paid, and means you quite possible need to fly empty if you are pushing out to the edges of space and don't want to have to continually return to get payment.

Still very early days but will limit my playtime a lot, after getting confortable with the flight model, if I am limited on exploration it will equally limit me playing until things scale out a bit.

So got the download finished then had the red online thing so sacked it for a while 'til things calmed down a bit

Could resist trying again before bed (23:30 ish)

Online worked :). Sidewinder 1000CR game on...

OMG, I spent 4 hours trading and doing missions (even got 3.5K for a 2 jump 1 ton delivery)

At one point a commander initiated voice comms but I could work out how to switch it on, found it after but too late.

Everything looks and sounds better. Keep up the good work guys.

Route planning is easy once you get used to it, I am hoping bigger ships can jump further, the 0.7 ton of fuel jump range is sometimes quite restrictive, I think it is about 6.8 LY so some of the previous trade routes are not possible

Loving it

Actually I found I was trying to finish the mission quickly and trade my way back to collect the mission payout.

I was a bit confused the first time though as the mission text said 'payment on delivery to Aulin' then had to work out why I didn't actually get paid on delivery

Has anyone done any refuelling (not bought it from a station) Is it working (if so how, no fuel scoop as far as I can tell)

I was able to play for 5 minutes with all the bugs and my 2 thoughts are:

1. the game must have a third person view, every major flight game has it. A 3rd person view with no reticle or hud would be ideal, not possible to use in combat but the same button used to look around the cockpit should be used to look around the ship in 3rd person. Dealbreaker for me, space games...

You've got an attitude problem, Mr Robotnik! Nothing personal, just don't bang so hard. One sentence is sufficient to get your "dealbreaker" across.

Jolly well done FD. I'd taken a couple of days leave to revel in Beta 1 like a pig in clover, and it looks like my expectations are soundly exceeded.

After an hour's play the things I love:
  • The new snappy hangar elevators. Can 'poor' stations keep the old slow ones though?
  • Planets visible as points of light before the disc resolves
  • Missions! Who knew those were coming already?
  • Stars up close
  • Seeing other ships in Supercruise. Got to practise intercepting moving destinations now.
  • NPC traffic

Already loving Beta1 much more than Prem beta.
It all feels a lot smoother.

Only gripe so far is NPC ships doing odd things in station entry bay - like flying in and then stopping before magically flipping themselves over :)

I have to say for a Launch day this was not really bad.
OK, this was not the very first release, but download worked fine for me, Game worked (at least a most of it :) ). Multiplayer did work, graphics are OK.
So there have been much much worse Beta starts.

@robotnik
I think you are better off with SC. Isn't meant in a bad way, I am myself not so sure which Game to prefer at the current state.
I think it's the right way to just have First Person view, it's the Elite way and for me it just adds alot of what Chris Roberts would call "Immersion" being kinda stuck in the Cockpit view. Yes, I like the eye candy SC gives you in 3rd Person, but from a Simulation view it adds nothing to the game and I think it destroyes alot of the real piloting feel.

About the missions, well, you are right in some ways, this mechanic is odd and hardcore oldschool. BUT on the other hand it's kinda logic and even if I know this is not a good Point at all I would state that it's forcing you to fly more Systems and burn fuel, travell more....which I think is good.
