The following is an excerpt from an Encounter that CMDR Arc_AngelLR and myself had last night in the Asterope system. At the bottom after the pics and video, I have some interesting insight to the Thargoids;
Our initial encounter at a "USS: Non-Human Signal Threat 5" area. Most of my encounters so far, have been close to Primary Stars. One thing I have picked up on;
1) When encountering for the first time, they like their space. The Green Color is "Scan Mode", Red is "Angry Mode". If you interrupt it scanning it will go Red. Back off 1KM and all should be good. I did this a few times last night and each time worked with success. I let it continue scanning the wreckage.
2) Leaving it alone to do it's thing. I had no idea what would happen next...
Neutral Mode. Not only did it change color it also changed pattern. From smooth curves to ragged tendrils and petals. This is the same ship!
Decided, on a hunch to move closer to the ship now that it's not displaying colors. Both CMDR Arc_AngelLR and myself made slow progress, 12km towards the Ship. We both stopped at 76m from the Ship. Impressive. All my other encounters I couldn't do anything after my initial contact.
Getting much closer to the 76m target goal. Notice the difference in the ship appearance?
Booyah! For the next half an hour it was photo op and observation. I noticed that (watch video at bottom) the tentrils are moving in rhythm. This is obviously a Biomechanical Ship.
To give the proper size reference. Both CMDR Arc_AngelLR (bottom) and myself (Middle Right) are flying Diamondback Explorers. This ship is tiny and I can't see this doing much damage to larger, more powerful Capital Ships. We surmised this must be an exploration Vessel as well.
The Resolution on the Thargoid Vessel. Tiny, I was expecting much larger ships. The one that interdicted me later in Witchspace, was much larger than this.
Notice the total difference in appearance? Incredible.
A closeup of the Central Structure. Resembles more of a mouth of an Octopi than "eye", or a Sea Star.
Once again for size reference, the Cockpit of the Resolution is visable on the middle Left. The Ship is not massive at all. I'm only 76m away.
Inside the Cockpit reference. While it appears big, it actually really isn't at all. Could this be another type of ship? I think so.

A link to my YouTube video of the whole event. Notice how the "arms" behave. Interesting.
My thoughts on this? I believe now there are two different types, possibly even more, of Thargoid Ships and encounters. Yes, I've seen the hostile encounter videos, I have also seen the peaceful encounters.
For over half an hour both CMDR Arc_AngelLR, myself and the Thargoid ship checked each other out. We made no hostile moves, in fact, we moved slowly to the ship once it stopped and changed colors. On approach I was attempting morse code for "PEACEFUL" (you never know) with the lights of the ship.
This has been a peaceful encounter. Not the scrap'em up battle ones I've seen so far. Might be out of the normal, but once we left (starting to leave the area) is also left as well. Very good first impression but I still exercise caution. As encounters later, didn't prove to be so long or friendly.
