[Really Annoyed] I'm boycotting AEGIS CG's until the Thargoid fiasco gets cleared up

UPDATE: I will be picketing the slot at:

Third Aegis Initiative (Trade/Thargoid)

System: Wyrd
Station: Vonarburg Co-operative

If anyone wishes to join me in protest about how the AX missiles was nerfed only days after becoming available (due to large group Thargoid Ganking) and how players who contributed to the 1st AEGIS initiative have had their efforts tossed aside under the guise of 'Thargoids Adapting' then by all means join me. I will be in Open picketing the slot.

I am out tonight seeing the new Blade Runner movie. I'll see how I feel on Sunday whether to continue this action. But I need your actual support to make any difference. I can only lead by example. The rest is obviously up to you.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm voting with my feet. No more Aegis CG's until this Thargoid farce gets sorted out... [mad]
I stupidly believed that the Thargoid content was for all... However, the game mechanics, as implemented, require you to play in large groups because fdev are too lazy to implement a scaled response (e.g. more Thargoids dropping into the instance to balance the number of players). The current game play is a really lousy game implementation FDEV! Did you think this up all by yourself? So very disappointed and annoyed with you that words fail me.
I'm going to go play Oxygen Not Included until some common sense prevails at the very least.
I'm really really angry at the moment.
As in my OP, I've decided to Boycott the CGs as my way of protesting about how FDev indiscriminately negate the many hours of effort players put in to these community events by dropping in a God-Nerf only days after the 'reward' for the previous CG was released, in order to drive 'their' story forwards and 'patch' the flawed game dynamics that they set up in the first place.
This behaviour and disrespect of the ED community is unacceptable in my personal option. You may get different mileage and be perfectly happy with how FDev regards and treats their community, but personally, I think this is as good as giving us the finger and saying *s-ck on that*. It is not the considered actions that are mindful of the feelings of others but knee jerk responses to emergent gameplay that is clearly outside of their control and expected 'plan' of how the storyline would unfold. If they had come clean and just admitted, that they hadn't expected that the 2.4 Thargoids patch would descend into a Goid Gankfest within a week I could have understood that. I think they should have planned for it and had contingency measures ready as it's hardly unexpected community behaviour but at least I could have empathized with their position. But instead we get God-Nerfs and "Working as Intended" and "The Thargoids have adapted" Galnet Bull that attempts to cover up their incompetence.
I'm sure others will not see what I'm angry about, and think FDev are doing a just Swimmingly Brilliant job of rolling out 2.4. However, I beg to differ on that point, and will Boycott the CGs henceforth. If you happen to feel the same and believe a culture change is needed within FDev in how they respond to the ED community in the future, by all means join me in my Boycott. You never know, together we may make FDev 'think twice' before pulling a similar stunt like the last God-Nerf of the AX missiles... We may even get them to understand that contingency planning instead of knee jerk responses is essential if you are to keep your player base onside...
Sorry but I'm expecting more from FDev than this... Join me if you feel the same. If enough people feel the same, perhaps we could all sit outside the next CG waving placards or something :p That's what I think I'll be doing when this evenings CG kicks off ... sitting outside the station in Open in protest with a placard "Stop with the God-Nerfing - Show Some Respect" :eek:
Another win for the league against cruel sports!
That's the best way to handle this. Just ignore the Thargoid Ladybird story entirely.
Uhu. Till they'll Knock your door down. Then what ?
People seem to assume that :
1) Thargoids are going to just an other ez to kill NPC type. And that the fights will be fair and balanced. Well, they might not.
2) That they will just keep things at a squirmish level in the pleiades and not go for the bubble or knockout blows to the core worlds.
I can understand your frustration. This seems a fairly direct attempt to force people to play together in order to do something which given ED has a reasonably large contingent of single player focussed players seems a little unreasonable but still, it is their game..
To be fair the game is fun to play with other people, I've done this a little bit myself, and I can see why they would want to encourage that.. But desirable or not it often isn't practical.
Still, unless blowing up Thargoids is your only interest there are still Thargoidy things you can be getting up to by yourself - you can still drop in to the USSs and have a look and see how they react to different things or try and scan them and so on and there are the various alien sites you can visit.
I'm not sure how you would scale the combat for a single player, an individual Thargoid is meant to be a massive threat. The whole point is that single commanders shouldn't be able to deal with them. I guess instead of making them much weaker perhaps the alternative would be to have USSs where there are other ships usefully engaged with the Thargoid(s) that you can get involved with. I'm sure I've seen someone else suggest something similar from a variety standpoint but it would be good from a supporting single players standpoint too. That and have some NPC wingmates would be nice, but I don't see we will be getting that any time soon.
But yeah, I see why you would find this annoying.
What's the problem?
This is new story ... right now we're not meant to really be beating them ... Even in a wing the other night a group of us barely took one down .... now with the new story element that's not possible...
This is the beginning - give it a chance for once
Oh no! Some multiplayer content is allowed to exist in an online multiplayer game! I weep for the lack of solo content available.
I belive the ladys anounance stems from the feeling this content was ment for all types of players, from Doing a CG to soloing a Thargoid
I've decided to boycott not only because the Thargoid content is poorly implemented, but because the nerfs continue to make new and casual players second class citizens. While these nerfs may impact my enjoyment of Elite, they don't strike at me financially. I was an early adopter and able to benefit from the relative absence of time, credit, and reputation gates that as of today stand in the way of new or casual pilots. Nonetheless, I don't think making an entire class of pilots is good for Elite or for the community.
I don't think you're angry enough - your post lacks multiple exclamation marks, large type-sizes and boldened caps.
How about the ability to use two or more NPC wingmen?
Come on Frontier. I love you guys, really I do, and the game you've created is absolutely fantastic. But try to know your audience a little better. Yes you've got loads of people who love multiplayer and MMO stuff (so multicrew and powerplay, fair enough). But loads of us have hermetic souls that just don't want or can't play with others because we've got hermetic souls, or are social outcasts, or whatever. The game feels like it's sliding away from us sometimes.
Galactic News: Thargoids Adapting Rapidly
Admiral Tanner’s statement is reprinted in full below.
“Preliminary reports indicate that although the AX missiles were inflicting significant damage on the Thargoid ships’ ‘heart’ modules, they are now proving less effective. We believe this is due to the Thargoids developing a resistance to the compound carried by the missiles. I am optimistic, however, that the current Aegis initiative will produce weapons capable of overcoming this resistance.”
Um, no Admiral Tanner, it's because those missiles we were in the middle of carrying into thargoid dogfights suddenly had their key damage statistics reduced. Try firing them at something non-thargoid if you don't believe me.
This is god-modding, and was a rude thing for FD to do overnight. I was neck-deep in man vs. alien combat, was almost at the point of taking out Heart #4, when I had to call it a night... 1:30am, work the next day. Right there, that was as far as my self-set challenge to beat a thargoid was ever gonna get.
Pretty gutted.
No, I don't want to "work to earn more weapons via community goals" (ie. mass repetition of a single task).
No, I don't want to wing up with 9 other players and alpha-strike a Thargoid Cyclops Variant. That wasn't my goal! My goal was to refine and learn, improve, and take one down with the weapons I'd bought and fitted.
Do you know how much time I spent just messing with power prioritisation in my FdL, to get 4 x AX plus a useful conventional weapon for 'between-the-heart' shield attack?
Messing about with Hull and Module reinforcement, trying 'em out?
In terms of credits alone, shipping the FdL over, plus sacrificing three of them to learn by doing/dying? Expensive.
I, too, am out. I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid. ;)
Some other games have raids - game activities that are hardly doable solo and are made so people play together as a team.
My guess is that FD tried to introduce some new game mechanics that encourage party play apart from CG's
I am totally fine with that as long as there is Thargoid content available for solo players also!
