The reason I always leave game again

Is it OK if we don't care why OP decided not to play?

I'm a HOTAS user, and I'm not going to give that up because something thinks it gives me some kind of advantage.

That whole "play your way" thing and all, y'know?

Reading the comments here makes me realise what an apathetic (use a dictionary) bunch of players we have playing this game. It's all about how great you people are at setting up your HOTAS and how any idiot can do it. "Can I have your stuff" type remarks.

The man says he has little time, has a sick wife and cares for a dog. yet all you guys can think about is your egos and how good you all are.

Someday, you'll get older and realise, time is a precious commodity. And the the older you get, the less time you have left.

Show some respect and common courtesy, if you have any that is.

Calls ppl apathetic and then asks to show some respect and common courtesy. Comedy gold.

Why FD would fundamentally change game for benefit of small group of players (yes, it is official)?

Because that small community is absolutely incapable of any form of self control, and I'm sick and tired of hearing "It's too hard to make my rebuy of the 1.5 billion credit ship I lose every five minutes."

Btw, guys, he mentioned that the last time he used and configured a joystick was for Comanche Gold.
That's, like, 20 years in the past. I can remember that back then configuring Joysticks for simulations was indeed tedious.

Nevertheless, technology marches on, and "probably" all the pro-Stick-users might be right that plugging in a HOTAS and configuring it isn't rocket science.

It's not even basic algebra.

After the intitial test it's really just choosing the button combination you feel comfortable with.

And this can even be even further tweaked in-game during a long flight to your free Anaconda on Hutton Orbital.

Important to remember that not everyone suits, or can afford a HOTAS, some may prefer alternative cheaper controllers. Personally, as an aside, for my controller needs, I'm not buying a stick that includes the rudder handle bit I don't want, and can't seem to find a s/h HOTAS minus the throttle.

Of course. Everything that rocks your boat...

Still, the OPs fear that installing and configuring a HOTAS'd be comparable to joysticks back then is unjustified (even if it's understandable alright).

Not really, worst thing was the calibration screen one had to go through. Gameport was standard and documented functionality, even if the implementation sucked quite a lot. (The more feature-rich flight sticks or Thrustmaster Combat Potato may have been different, but I never had one of those.)

• Money making is all over the place and the game is fundamentally unbalanced and always will be. This can be frustrating if you're determined to make a lot of money at one particular activity; on the other hand at any given time there are almost always a few methods of making obscene amounts of money in a short time. Dig around on the forums and you can probably find a workable method, OR just make peace with the pace of progression at your chosen activity. You'll get there eventually either way.

• The "HOTAS-TECH++++++" thing; I don't think you know what you're talking about. HOTAS is probably the most *fun* way to play the game, but it is not the most accurate or effective for combat. The PVPers and CQCers that kept killing you were probably using mouse and keyboard; which is generally agreed to be the most effective control scheme for combat.

• If you want to use a Hotas, don't be afraid of the setup. With Elite at least it's fairly straightforward to configure. If you want something easy, the Thrustmaster T16000M and FCS Hotas come in a pack which retails for $120 and frequently goes on sale for around $100. It's completely plug-and-play with Elite as there's a preset for it already in the game and the settings work fine. You may wish to tweak the settings to your liking, but the whole package works well right out of the box. This is what I use, and I have very little tolerance for fiddling with control settings. If $100 is too much for you, the T-flight Hotas X, also by Thrustmaster, is around $50 and also works well and is pretty much plug-and-play. (And no I don't have any particular loyalty to Thrustmaster, these two sticks just happen to be the ones I have a working knowledge of)

• Lots of stuff wrong with the game; but the things that seem to be frustrating you are fixable or avoidable; so if those are your main problems you should give it another chance.

Calling ppl apathetic IS an insult and thus neither corteous nor respectfull.

Simply ignore that.

Everybody has issues in their own life to deal with, and the private life of the OP is not the topic to discuss here (as it is HIS private life). Neither is our lack of response to his lament about it.

You mad ! Solution is baning op hotas from game. Obviously.

You joke (I assume) but that option is there. Buy on Xbox. Afaik there is no hotas for xb1 and no kB/m either. Not a road I would go down but if you absolutely insist on an even playing field (excluding better eye candy presumably with the X1x ) the option exists

That said.. I have ALL the toys for ED. Hotas, oculus rift, 70 inch screen, voice attack...

And I am certain outside of cqc almost every single pvper in this game would eat me for breakfast even those who play with kB/m and a 14 inch single monitor.

PvP in ED is less about the toys outside the game and more about the build of the ship, plus situational and piloting skills and understanding the gear in the game of course.

Everything I do in ED is about immersion bringing me closer to the feeling of being a spaceship pilot. Admittedly the target tracking in vr helps but the hotas is pure immersion. FA off is easier with a mouse and kB than a stick. (For me) way less fun tho

So what the OP is saying is that he sucks at combat?

I know I do. But OP's frustration and a lot of the response here makes me think (I use a HOTUS) I might give the mouse & keyboard a go. And as several have said give the CG's a try as it's pretty easy to get several million there. And just scanning each and every planet in several systems (in the bubble) can net you 5 or 6 million or more.

I'm still figuring things out about this game. Every day I learn something new. From in game or from comments in threads.

"...I run low on patience and threw a Ultra-4K Samsung TV out of the window the other day because Pixel-error occured 3 days after warranty ran out. I just don't want to spend all that money..."

You apparently have money to spend and throw away when it's something important to you. Not everything out of warranty is unrepairable. An OK hotas would cost 1/10th.
Looks like gaming of the type produced these days is no longer for you and you've moved on. Trying to get back into the game which has not fundamentally changed in over two years is going to continue to frustrate you.
This is a reminder games these days offer key-mouse control as a minimal starter set up everyone can do on first install. You cannot blame the other players who are willing to invest more time and money than you.

However, you seem to fail to acknowledge there are alternate game modes in which you are not getting beat up by career players. If you REALLY like the game and the player competition (keeping up with the joneses) is the only serious game stopper for you, Solo is there for you and Private is there for multi-play among other mouse/key friends you make.

I agree though setting up an expensive hotas can take days of fiddling (you don't have to do it all at once of course) but you cannot entirely blame the full time players who are willing to invest the time and money if they have it for a game in which they intend to get everything it has to offer.

Myself, I went for the slow burn and it took me over a year to get to the money and skill serious players got to in weeks.
However, with your throw possessions out the window fuse, Elite is NOT a game you will master in the first few hours of play, no matter how many times you come back to it.

Like you, I also played Comanche Gunship on the Sidewinder FFB. Those kinds of tactile experiences seem to be gone for good and I miss it.

ED really is super easy, in a relative sense, anyway.

If you want hard, go download DCS (the basic module will do) and try and take off.

If you want really hard, buy the Huey, or better yet, Warthog. Let's see if you can get the Warthog fired up in 15 minutes (yeah, fired up - like, not even rolling on the tarmac yet).

ED really is quite a good compromise between complexity and fun, the flight model, despite lack of "full on" Newtonian physics, is stupidly fun (the point of the game, and what keeps me playing), the learning curve may be a little steep, but not that steep, once you understand the concepts.

I seriously think too many people probably skip the training tutorials.

I remember playing Jane's Apache Longbow AH-64D (Jane's that does the military pronz (thanks filter, it's a helo not headlights)). It took a month just to learn to get off the ground and back again. Every key did four things, plus a stick. Holy doodle that was a lot of controls. Finally got to the first actual deployment mission and got completely annihilated because flying livefire was waaay tougher than the training.

I also go in and out from the game... the main reason is that the game is flat at the moment, soon I will be triple elite... but for me be a triple elite mean nothing, is "be a triple elite" a milestone??? no... or better: not for me.
There is nothing to do for a 3-6weeks old player... some one will say soon go to explore. Explore what? You mean RP and take screens?
At the moment I have a fleet of ship (not the ranked ships - I love to play not to grind for months) and some billions... now what? I go in and out and after years I see that no one of mine friends (10+ players) are in the game and want to log another time... I am alone in an empty bottle.
But if I log out and go to steam I can play with so many games and friends... some times I quit elite because I want to play with my friends and have REAL fun.

OH really?
I'm 50 and I've been retired for 9 years.

I did 20 years in the Navy, and during 14 years of that time, I was unable to play my games an average of 300 days a year.

Never once did I go to a game forum crying for things to be easier because I didn't have that same amount of time to play as other people did.
I accepted my life decisions that limited my time instead of asking for handouts. I acknowledged that the world didn't revolve around me.
Sadly it seems most people don't think that way any more.

One a side note, setting up a HOTAS IS easy. My very first HOTAS took me 15 min to set up and that was back in 1991 using Serial Ports so yes, any idiot CAN do it.
