Modes ED "Beyond" Disappointing, anyone have similar feelings?

I'm disappointed in the scope of the road map. I don't think it does enough to improve the game based on the limited information provided. I was hoping for a more root and branch reworking of core game play but it looks to me to be tinkering around the edges of a few core game play elements.

I'm skeptical of what will actually be delivered for each of the updates. For some of them they're pretty descriptive (e.g. Engineer rolls will be better than the last one) while others are very vague. I expect the vague ones to be delivered in their most bare bones form as that is what FD have done in the past.

I am pleased they are actually doing this though rather than just bolting on more bare bones systems, I just don't think it's enough and will be ultimately disappointing. Happy to be proved wrong.

Well, as someone who has been dedicating his bum off for the Alliance to get recognised for over 2.5 years, let's see what beyond has to offer:

a) Alliance gets recognised and gets its own ships.
b) Everything else extra.

OK, we're done here. Best update ever.

Im fine with our roadmap. You cant blame FD for not going into all the little details. They always lose in here no matter what they say or post. Im going to hazard a guess that if you actually looked at the list of improvements to the core game and whatever else they do, that it would be a very long list of tiny details most of us would really not know anything about if they told us. In a way I would like to see that list but in reality, I dont think I want to spend THAT much time reading stuff I barely understand. They have done fine so far and I am sure they will continue to do so. You can see when they interview them that they are very passionate about what they are doing and they have plans they would love to tell us about but dont dare for multiple reasons. I dont know any developer anywhere that would do such a thing in their right minds.

"Beyond" looks fine to me, my only real interest in what was shown is the planetary textures and the improved lighting model.

If they follow through with what was shown at the Expo no complaints, though a 1 year wait on the lighting fix will be a pain.

My guess is that the lighting fixes will be done in stages.....so we will probably see gradual improvement in lighting quality throughout next year.

Let's see, players have been asking, nah demanding improvements to exploration and mining. So we're getting improvements to exploration and mining.

Groups have been asking for shared resources and group membership (clans) and we're getting Squadrons with membership and group-purchasable Carrier mega-ships as well as Wing missions.

People have complained about "beige" planets, so we're getting new planet tech, with better textures and surfaces, with a new surface type (ice) and ambient effects, like fog.

We've heard complaints about there being too little choice in ships for particular roles; "moar ships". So we're getting (and I quote) a "lot more ships" of which we've seen three with a peek at a fourth.

Players have complained about GalNet's "text wall" so we're getting an audio version of Galnet. I know a couple of dyslexics who'll welcome that for certain.

So when people talk about "nothing" being in Frontier's 2.4 Beyond, I have to assume they are talking about the cost. Because that's the only nothing to see here...

Most bad design decisions are due to a lack of time. And here we have people telling them it's not fast enough. Doing things right takes time, I hope Frontier learned that valuable lesson.

Both, actually: it takes toovlong and they should take more time. They should add features and add depth. It should be free and paid for.

Blabla. :)

Yes, I think if you take out the nonsense rant from the OP this is what he was trying to say.

I share your concerns but the detail of Beyond is only going to become clear closer to the time of release....we'll have to be patient.

Well. See you in 4-6 months. Will download the patch and check if ED delivers on their promise of not having to launch EDDB in order to trade. 6 months. Wohoo. Maybe a new ship too.

Where do these people come from? Post a negative post with a negative title and multiple pages later nobody realizes he is gone.

Looking forward to his next negative post in 4-6 months then

Do you realize that games are fun because of options. If there is a "compulsory" option that everyone picks, then its not a good design. Engineers should offer options, not raw power upgrades, because everyone wants these power upgrades and everyone will grind it out. Then, its not an option, rather a necessity.

Looks at how "many" (ha ha) engineers upgrades people are using. Efficient beams. Overcharged MCs. Increased FSD. These are not options that broaden your gameplay. This is +% improvements that become the new baseline after feature liek engineers gets released.

<No Need>

I'm not arguing about engineers, I've not unlocked a single engineer because of this very reason...my ships were fine, then engineers happens and they are overnight sub par and I need to grind like crazy to get them back to being effective.

I voted with my feet, left the bubble to go exploring and haven't come back although I'm on my way. My stance towards engineers has also softened recently and when I return I'm planning on giving it a go.

Personally I love the reworked planets and galnet audio but why we have to wait 4 months for this is beyond me.

Also as all the good stuff is Q1 2018 does this mean that all we are getting from 2.4 from now on is Thargoid narrative? Genuinely curious.

i wouldn't be surprised if they present the next paid expansion shortly after "Beyond" ends. They want to abandon the season model. One way to do this is to develop the expansion first, then sell it, instead of the other way around. So, is is possible they are working on this expansion already and will be during 2018. Beyond that i don't agree with you anyway. What they have shown is great. I just hope the deliver some substantial improvements to mining, trading, and exploration.

No offense but I think you've got more chance if platting dog poo than this happening.

No way they will be diverting all the staff needed for the ED free improvements AND a paid expansion from their Jurassic park and Planet Coaster projects.

Next paid expansion will be Q4 2019 or 2020.(If ever)

I'd still expect some onboard computer voice and interior sounds. Just not exterior sounds. Thanks for the fix. Remember to use the guillotine next time u get a runny nose ;-)

Not to be white knight, but the external sounds thing has been answered many times before:

1. You hear sounds because your ship knows where all other ships are around you, and translates them into actual sound in your cockpit to help your situational awareness. There is no sound in space.

2. Gameplay requires the first point - it does help your situational awareness.

However, I'm an 'options for everything' guy, so I'd agree that an option to switch off all external sounds should be a thing, as well as integration with internet radio, both in game like sidewinder or external via an option etc, as well as an in ship mp3 player etc.

Well I guess time will reveal all

We are currently in q4 2017, next update is next quarter. 2.4=Thargoids, this has been clearly communicated.

Not sure where people get their expectations from... :p

I dont want to take anything away from what they showed us at the expo. And maybe with the content they had. It wasnt as important.

But they did not say anything about the problems that plague this game right now. Mission scaling and rewards. Risk Vs Reward. PVP and how people are effected by it.

Engineers and planet beige, the fleet ships are awesome though.

But if they dont pull the trigger, all we will have is massive PVE battles. Hardly engaging, hardly anything to do with the multiplayer experience. And they will be in the same spot powerplay is in right now.

I was hoping for core changes. But we got additions. Really trying not to be negative here. But the same problems still exist as they did before. Really kinda frustrated with it to be honest.

Install a rated life support, stay within the bubble and get someone to shoot out your canopy.... ;)

That said joking aside it would be cool if your ships computer could be damaged leaving you with basic navigation but losing your intelligent hud and synth sounds

Well that's clear then.
Good time for a break then as I like the artwork and sound design for the goids but I find it more interesting to view them on an obsidian ant video than to interact with them in game.

See this proves FD can't please everyone because big pve battles and pve content would make me happy and where you see FD not putting love into the MP experience I sadly see them focussing too much on it
