PSA: Not sure if anyone spotted this but a dev has confirmed there will be paid content as well as the free stuff...

They had better not throw in exclusive content for LEP owners. The "E" stands for "expansion" not "exclusive".

Whatever the LEP owners get for free everyone else must also have access to through paying for it.

Yeah, the only exclusive type stuff I got for my Horizons LEP was the same time sensitive stuff that people who pre-purchased Horizons got. That makes sense to me that it would be included, but in general I'm not too keen on exclusive type stuff. I mostly just want the expansions (in whatever form they take) and a whole and complete game to the best of Frontier's ability to deliver, whenever that may be.

I do not see the problem.
We want more game, they need to pay for the development, we have to pay in some way or another. And no business is altruistic, they are all in for the profit, even if passionate about the product.
I rather ask for they to be transparent with me about it. Then I can decide where and when do I open my wallet. Because that is what truly matters in the end.

Honestly, as long they don´t go loot boxes, and be transparent about the model I will be ok.

The problem was that some people have prepaid for all the content (terms and conditions apply, definition of "Content" inconclusive) in advance and they wanted to know what FD's plans were for paid for DLC since they announced recently that Beyond would be free (to Horizons owners) and there was no information about paid content going forward.

Well why didn't they mention this at the expo? Sorry but as much as I'd like to believe everything Braben says the reality is it rarely matches reality.

Could be worse, you could be waiting for *cough* Star Citizen *cough*

I don't want 'premium content', what I want is not to have to pay for future content as I thought that's what my LEP was for.

Since FD haven't said what this Premium content is, how do you know you don't want it?!! Also, FD have already said its free for LEP. So you won't be paying anyway.

"But why didn't FD just tell us that they had something at some point? They could give us more info later!"

Meanwhile, in a parallel topic:

"We're [doing things] we're not ready to talk about yet, no guarantees, no ETA's." is the Frontier Motto and disclaimer for pretty much every conversation.

I'm pretty sure it's even engraved on one of the stones outside the front door of their new office.

[haha]

Yes, that is literally what they said. If you have it you wont have to pay for it. If you dont have a LEP you do have to pay for it. That is what LEP means. That is what they said over and over. That is what they explicitly said again. Just to re-assure people who for some bizarre reason insist on being scared, frustrated and anxiety-ridden.

I cant imagine how some here go through their lives. Everything must scare the heck out of some here...

As sleutelbos says, Zac's comment basically said just that. ie: 2018 will probably see a yet undisclosed payable DLC (premium content) which of course Lifetime owners will not have to pay for.

For me this is good news. It shows not only is there some significant (free) content coming in "Beyond," but also work on something significant enough FD think folks will pay for it!

Did it take you long to think of that? :x

I'm not even sure who he's referring to.
Maybe if they had thought harder about what they were posting they would have made the insult a bit more specific ;)
I just take it that it was self depreciating humor and they were talking about themselves.

I'd be careful there. Easy to read more into what's said based on what you wish they would add.
All I read was "There will be things to buy" and "LEP owners get premium content".
I hope it is really cool updates to the game that add rich game play but it's so vague it could also be more cosmetics and lootboxes.
It probably won't be that and will be some kind of "Content" but I wouldn't bet the house on it.

They could have just permit locked starter areas for those below a certain rank. They've only themselves to blame for that.

Iirc the plan was for everyone to start in a random system in the bubble. Now I get that this may not work well for mates playing together but having players pick from one of say 100 systems to start from I think would have been good to stop open gankers.... But truth is I am just shooting the breeze it does not effect me

Ship naming is still free.

I had heard at one point that it wouldn't show your ship's name to others, like on the HUD, unless you also had it painted on your ship with one of the cosmetics. Is this true, or for that matter, was it ever? I never bothered checking (I'm well out in the black 90+ percent of the time), though I did get the classic nameplate cosmetic, just because I think it's a nice touch to have it painted on my ships as well.
