Making money

I could not help but read that in Rick Sanchez' voice :p :D

Sorry if I'm derailing this thread but you reminded me of yesterday when my friends were calling the current series of Rick and morty "normie trash". And yet somehow, they don't think they're hipsters because of that statement....

Ok, so I recently started in ED. I dont know if im possibly doing it wrong or what the deal is, but making money in this game is terribly painful!!! I am making what, 50k per mission? Ive been here a week now and barely broke 6 mill. Ive been all over the forums, and everything people suggest isnt working....

So, Am i doing it wrong, or that just the state of the game right now?

This had been discussed to death on the forum, ad nauseam. Consequently there has been multiple threads posted here. Christ, in the days of internet and youtube, how is finding out such things so difficult for some people.

Lol. Anyway, tried again, joined a ship in idle, went to eat, got back, earned 600k. Is this thing here to stay? No point playing the game, just join multicrew and go out and drink beer come back as a billionaire...

Hey OP, six large in a week is fairly good. My advice would be a to try stealing Diamonds. You can search for techniques on the forums or Google.

With a cheap Viper or Cobra Pirate rig you could be making a million a time easily. If you Engineer the powerplant for overcharge you can easily carry around all the kit you need. Also it's a lot more fun than being a bus driver.

I'd also advise you forget about credits for now and just explore the game. I've heard it said that Elite is a mile wide and an inch deep which may or may not be true but even if it is that still makes it pretty big.

Also, I apologize for this chap. The forums can be a whiney place from time to time.

Running missions should not be sole source of income. You should try bounty hunting while running missions, or as a path to increase rep with controlling factions.

The other path to large payouts is exploration, and you can tackle that however you like, but finding earth like, amonoa, and water worlds pay big. This may not provide the highest CR/Hour, but you can go out for a week or so and easily return with $40 to $70 mil in data.

The biggest thing is to increase your ability to earn, dependent on the payouts available where you are, or knowing where to go to find the highest payouts for the tasks that you are best suited for. If you have a ship suited for combat, then go where most missions will be combat related and have higher rewards.

CGs are also good. I usually put in enough effort to get to the 50% mark and tgen head to the other one.

For some ppl the fun part is to manage a spaceship by the shoestrings and just about keep ahead of expenses. This is not doable anymore unless you sabatage yourself. Why is this so hard to understand. I have four personal friends that started playing the game at various times - not one of them finds the progress to slow + we all had more sense of purpose in the game when it actually wqa difficult to get to a cobra.
If thats different for you - fine but you seem to asume your POV = the only right one...

*OP asks if what they are doing might be wrong.*

"Stop telling them what they're doing wrong!"

LOL

Lots of good advice aside from that.

Do what you enjoy OP, and know that's a respectable amount for that time.

Get allied and you'll get the higher paying missions.
Use exploration data to do this with minor factions that will benefit you.
You may want certain system permits, rank locked ships and engineers later, so choosing carefully who you become allied with now will pay dividends later.
Some activities will be counter productive to other goals as well.

Have fun and enjoy the view.

Worth a watch, if nothing more than to draw parallels with ED:

It very easy to get free money in Gta without doing much, that people even pay for shark cards is beyond me.. Just join a session, say «please little script kiddie dude, please dont spawn money on me i hate it», wait a few seconds and the money start raining on you. Have all the assets in gta without doing a single mission, sometimes i dont even have ask for it, the money comes pouring in even if i dont want it...

My suggestion, and what my friend and I did in Two Guys In Space, is to run missions for credits until you can upgrade to a new bigger ship, then run more missions in the new ship until you can upgrade to a bigger ship, etc.

And by all means take part in any CG's that come up.

When I restarted on the PS4 I took my puny little hauler with a single load of commodities to a CG and made ~$900K. Enough to buy and outfit a Cobra. Then I ran the next CG in the cobra, got in the top 75% (ten deliveries) and made ~$5 million, enough to buy a Type 6 with money left over:

I would also suggest switching up the type of missions you do to avoid boredom.

You can easily make +$500K in an hour in a Resource Extraction Site, plus use those bounties towards a Combat CG if one's running.

Good luck!

Again, you're not obliged to buy a bigger ship. You're not obliged to use any method to make money beyond slowly trading hydrogen fuel.

As for your last sentence, thanks, now I've got to go and pick up all the glass from my irony meter which has just exploded.

In other words 'nerf yourself' or as I said sabotage yourself. At least read my argument before adding yours...

You have obviously no idea what irony is.
You: everyone who wants less money = fun police
Me: Its fine if its more fun to you if you make more money but I'd still like to make less without gimping myself

Yet its ironic if I say you are the one who wants to decide for others...

I would not change/trade my 1st 6 months of ED for anyone. Those times are long gone now and it seems I am a minority player, but progression was infinitely more fulfilling back then.

That ship has sailed now but 20+ hrs speccing my sidey and saving up for an eagle and similar again to get my adder was gold......
+1

The new guys these days... they don't know how lucky they are. I remember flying all hours of the day and night, just to make ends meet. Even if they did meet, I was still skint. None of this passenger stuff. Missions paid nuffin'. I got where I am today through hard work.

Sorry... couldn't resist. I know it's entirely unhelpful as well :x

Stay in one place. Payouts grow with rep. Thats about it honestly.

How is "you are progressing just fine" not helping?

OP was advised to get allied with a multi factions in a system and to consider passenger missions.

Seems that was help right there ;)

@doctordanny... I am no billionaire

Did I specifically mention your post in mine mate?
