PvP This is why the incoming law enforcement buff and penalties can't come soon enough.

Eliminate criminals? Maybe it was only your wishful thinking. No one wants to eliminate them, it's only the first promised step in doing some things more difficult for them.

I play this game for fun. Some PvPers are fun to play with. Some "PvPers" are not. If a PvPer is willing to meet me half way, I'm willing to return the favor. If not, I'm not going to waste my precious in-game time on them. I've been playing online games for 25 years now, some of them featuring open world PvP.

There always seems to be two general categories of people who engage in PvP. One group is fun to play with. They are interested in fun fights, have a willingness to ham it up, and tend to self nerf to keep things interesting. The other group only want to kill players as quickly as possible, are frequently insulting if they communicate at all, and cannot understand why nobody wants to play with them. Including, it appears, themselves.

Right, and to be honest, most PVP'ers will actually meet you half-way, correct? Be honest. I do not know many that would simply kill a n00b. Sometimes, mebbe, but rarely. Quirky streamers, sure lol. Whatever.. it *is* a game. But there are those that will always do this, though they tend to be in smaller little groups not associated with the general crowd. Bullies.

So, why run from them? Why do most PVE'ers simply get annoyed and run? It's not even wasting your time, it's more letting them get away with it.
The bully carries on and you do nothing. Him/her vs overwhelming odds.

We in the PVP community find that hard to understand, and i guess that's part of the divide. Fdev have created this Galaxy, yet many want it on 'rails' and to have certain limits imposed, and so, Fdev in their 'wisdom' granted them that with solo and PG and in doing so have created a kind of paradox where players have no real connection.

Politics dictates that you can never please everyone and it always falls flat on its face if you try. That's what we seemingly have here..

CMDR, there's a place you can go
I said, CMDR, friendly people you'll know
You can stay there and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay in M - O - bius.
It's fun to play in M - O - bius.

I only mention it because I have a problem with the selective moderation. On the other hand I truly think the forums here have become super frickin boring since the the rearrangement a few weeks ago, and I miss these fun little forum tug o wars. I mean, without screeching about PvP, what's left? Complaining about the LEP's?
Jason, didn't you join AA a while back? How do you find the time to forum PvP when your home system is being blockaded? Shouldn't you be on the frontlines trying to end this blockade?
Perhaps have your group reach out to others for assistance, and we'll see the great PvP war so many crave? Just a suggestion.

I thought the new c&p in 2.4 was supposed to eliminate criminals, who would have thought galaxy wide bounty will not bother anyone who has billions. Good job fdev!
If you thought that was the intention, then you did not pay attention.

The newcomer system is next door actually.

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that. I started in LHS 3447, not Eravate. I could be assuming incorrectly, but don't most, if not all new players begin in LHS 3447 these days?

I'm not seeing a problem with any of this. Any new player will eventually get the hint. A new player with ANY previous pvp experience at all, will get a clue the first time. If you don't want the issues, but still want to play open, then by all means --- don't go to Eravate. Stay out of Maia too. There's 399,999,999,998 other systems to play in. It may be "rocket science," but it's not calculus.

I gave up playing ED when they nerfed the PA visuals

First off; colours man! Don't change them from the default. It really screws with different platforms. Replying to this on a pc, with grey text on grey background is a pain!

Now, on the above. Apparantly there are two choices for starter systems now. The regular starting point is LHS 3447, but there is also a Horizons option to start at a Planetary base, and according to these forums it's in Asellus Prime.

They've fixed them man. They look beautiful now. Come baaaaack!!

Due to this thread, for giggles, I have spent the evening in Eravate; in open.

I was interdicted a total of...once, by a FDL. High waked out in my Python with 92% hull. Other than that nothing.

I even ed around in a stock eagle for a while but none of the FDLs, Corvettes and whatever etc seemed interested.

Didn't see any SCD but did see some NMD.

Clearly their talk of a total blockade is , I was fine. Storm in a teacup TBH unless they are seal clubbing.

Fourth off, I didn't know about Asellus Prime, so thanks for the info.

Fifth, point taken. I'm also on pc. I know what it looks like, but that's kind of the whole point too. I think the standard posted result using bright white default text on a black background, is a pain to read. That's why I changed mine in the first place. But, I could try to find another color (colour, if you prefer) that suits both needs adequately.

There should be several different templates for the forums to choose from under the "Settings" -> "General Settings", almost all the way at the bottom. Perhaps try one of those out first? That way you don't have to change the colour of your text, and it looks normal to everyone. I haven't checked those out myself, but there should be the inverse (black text, on white background) as well as a few other options. May be worth a try atleast, but it's just a suggestion.

And concerning the starter systems; I had to look it up myself, so we both learned something :)

Rgr that, and I'll look into the settings. The black text on "glow in the dark white," is just as hard on my eyes. It's that way by default on my android tablet.

Watch your six out there CMDR! :)

I +repped you for this post but would like to address several points from the PvE side.

As to the above, it is wasting my time. I have a lot to do ingame. I guess if you don't follow the backstories and game lore, the game could be quite empty if you were just shuttling cargo from one place to another and watching the numbers roll. However, I am past the need for credits and that makes so much more of the overall game's content for me.

Think of it this way: my "game" is a Trader that started with nothing [well, a free Sidey and 1000cr) and is now a billionaire (almost three years ingame). I have the top luxurious trade ship. I have enough credits to outright buy and equip the apex fighter. But that's not my game (yet). So I've learned what traders learn: evasion techniques, interlocking engineering, ships built for speed. In fact, I shall rename my Cutter The Brave Sir Robin!

From my side, I have almost too much connection to other players. I am active in these forums and two others; I scan the galactic news daily, I am right now participating in a hot science effort to find these new INRA bases. Daily the subforum whisks a dozen and more pages in a single day with exciting new discoveries.

[WARNING: MIXED SCI-FI METAPHORS AHEAD]

Consider it like this: there were people who rooted for the Klingons, the Warrior type, the brutal nitty-gritty of life.
Then there was the Federation, who wanted to seek, know, expand and invite.
The Klingons spit upon the Federation; the Federation wrinkles its nose at the Klingons.
Then there's the Vulcans. I am a Vulcan. My game is a Vulcan game.
I connect to other Vulcans doing sciency things in the game universe.

That's my game. Someday, it may change, and I will want some swift combat ships and huge guns upon 'em. Til then, I can play my game without having to worry about someone else's.

It's really, from the PvE side, "I just don't wanna use my game time like that." It isn't "cowardice" nor "running" or "escaping." Elite : Dangerous is a complex and complicated game, which allows several parallel universes to co-exist in the same worldspace.

I'd think that the people who liked PvP or contests or things of that nature would kinda band together, like the science and lore guys, and organize contests and matches and turf rumbles and play the Powers and do all that Machiavellian stuff people like so well. And if that someday becomes my game, I'll Machia vellian all over that thing. I mean, so what if I can run down puppies with a GTO, what kind of contest is that? Fighters usually pit themselves against other fighters for the glory of it; the riches, the fame.

The true PvPers I know understand this.

Politics dictates that you can never please everyone and it always falls flat on its face if you try. That's what we seemingly have here..

But FD have! I can play in solo or with other PVEers or I can play in Open for that frisson. That is where, I think, a point does not get through, constant in all such threads as these: I just want to play my game my own way. Nothing "cheating" about it. My way does not really need you, I have enough fun in other ways.

It seems that your way has the problem. I confess, I'm an older gamer, but where is the PvP community? Where are the televised death matches between Clans? Where is the glory? Where is the Warrior's Code? Where is all the mythos? The story? If it's just *plink plink* it would get rather boring...

If anyone was to "police the PvP area" it should be PvPers, as it is their chosen game type and turf.

I'm not seeing a problem with any of this.

The problem with it is it is the old pad-teleport-camping for yucks, killing newbs and respawns to pilfer their equipment. Tearing the wings off flies.
