Need a good laugh? Watch my DBX lose power and explode on the surface right in front of my SRV!

So yeah this happened to me tonight, enjoy a good laugh at my expense!

No idea what went wrong. My module power settings were set and I've never had this happen before, yet the DBX lifted off when dismissed but lost power only a couple dozen meters above the ground, and then proceeded to bounce about the surface! I found it funny at first until I realized my hull was rapidly dying, that's when I started recording, lol.

So I'm stranded 14,000 lys away from Sol on planet 5 F of the 3 GEMINORUM system, out on the galactic rim. I submitted a ticket because this just feels screwy. If I had accidentally goofed up a power priority then the ship wouldn't have lifted off in the first place. Hopefully support can fix me up, if not then I'll just find myself back in civilization right quick!

Let this be a PSA to all commanders: double check those module power priorities regularly just to be sure and safe! [big grin]

That is a new one.... yeah, I can't think of how that could happen w/o it being a bug... If you mis-prioritized the engines, how did it take off? That's a new one.

Actually, I'm hoping that he remembers how I got told that I was an idiot (by others, not him), and other disparaging things in the Exploration Forum about a year ago or so for telling new Explorers that they should run with plenty of power, instead of relying on Priorities to make a duct-taped ship function...barely.

There is a whole .5 light year difference in jump range on a DBX between running a 4A Power Plant, and the 2A he was likely using on that ship.

As in, Point 5, or half of a light year.

I am sorry that it happened, in any case, bug or not.

You should have exited the game completely rather than just exited to main menu, then started the game in non-Horizons mode - you'd have started in your ship and in orbit - then you could have seen what the problem was :)

Asides from that, I'd be contacting Support right now to ask them to look into it and if it was a bug, they could reinstate your ship for you.

EDIT: Your ship hadn't ran out of fuel had it?

To be honest, I didn't even bother watching it. Laughing at people isn't how I get my kicks, and if I did, it would speak more about my condition than that of others.

It reminds me of those ganking videos you see going around from time to time. How pathetic is it that that is how some people find validation in their gaming endeavors? "Look at this stupid scrub dropping out of combat and hitting a world too fast, because they couldn't keep their thrusters powered," to paraphrase some I've seen.

Okay so what should happen? Have a friend pick you up? Only works in multi-player.
Get rescued by an NPC? Seems like a complicated process to get you back into another ship.
Recall another ship? That could work with the same time delay as ship transfer I guess, as long as you have another ship.
Buy a ship & have it delivered maybe?
Pay the rebuy & have the replacement ship delivered to your SRV location? I like that.
