Can we play yet?

Yeah, nothing has ever come out of combat. Ever. At all. Ignore jet engines. And radar. And computers. And every space program.

False equivalence.

All of those things came out of research, and that research required raw materials.

Show me the jet engine that was developed purely by someone opening fire at something with a machine gun.

This whole thread could have been avoided with a simple change in tone:

"Fdev, can we please have a combat CG this week?"

I know that FDev simply don't have the resources to do this, but it would be nice if there were more CGs ongoing at any given point, and that they covered all of the core gameplay stuff - combat, hauling (trading), mining, exploration.

For instance (and taking exploration as the example) you could have a faction that wants to expand into uninhabited sector FOOBAR AB-C and requires pilots to go there, DSS each of the bodies and return the data.

Right, but those things were developed with a focus on war, by reverse-engineering captured technology or because of necessity. It's kinda hard to believe it took Thargoid tissue samples to create a weapon type that hit its peak use in 1945.

Man the forum is confusing! Apparently there is no love for explorers, and trade are always second to combat, but in this thread its the combat pilots who are neglected to placate the traders..WHO DO I BELLIEEVEEE!

Do you mean all those things developed by scientists in laboratories who never needed to pick a gun up and shoot anybody?

Combat created the need for those developments, it didn't create the developments. The only time combat itself ever directly created something new was the first monkey picking up a stone or branch to hit or throw at a target.

Since then we have developed better ways to hit someone or throw something at them through science and engineering, including just hitting or throwing large amounts of energy at an enemy in the right way.

It's almost like the game has a lot of flaws that make people mad. Who'd'a thunk it?

Well that's not really what I'm saying at all. This is the snapshot:

if we want everyone to participate, why deliberately put any segment of the playerbase's preferred content behind a wall of other less preferred content.?

Lots of commenters allude to being forced/prompted to try other activities.

For anyone who went through the rank, powerplay , fleetbuilder, engineering content previously you know full well we have already tried the other activities hundreds, if not thousands of times to get where we are.

Im asking to be included. That is all.

We have been. There have been quite a few bounty turn in CGs my point still stands in that traders move the economy and give us new tech to shoot things with. We did our job now it's theirs. this is how things work

You seem to think those roles are all mutually exclusive. Do you have some sort of metrics that would prove that 'vast majority' of pilots are just sitting around doing nothing, as opposed to actually participating in the events in question?

yes I do. its the actual numbers of commanders who participate in the relevant cg catagories.
and no I don't think anyone is sitting around, but when every single bounty cg has ATTRACTED between 8-10 thousand players,
and the trade cg's generally average about half that number or in instances much less, like the current one.

No other persuit apart from active combat against the thargoids was affected by the nurf to weapons we earnt in the previous cgs.
Now that the content stops us from actually fighting the thargoids directly why not give us somewhere to go.
Especially when it is the outcome of the cg's themselves that give the advancments to weapons that combat pilots need restored.

its just a strange implementation that I think as an unintended byproduct doesn't give some incredibly keen participants little to do to affect their own fate.

fair enough, well just have to wait. . . . . .

It's how things work because Frontier aren't going to implement any new mechanics to make it work better until 2018. Point being, we're on the third week of trade CGs that have given us ONE new thing each. It's boring. I haven't logged in since the first week and I don't think I will until something actually happens. The thargoids are a huge threat, that we have to actively search out and shoot at. So threatening.

Would be an option to allow Thargoids to penetrate the bubble to try and stop the next Aegis CG though. That would be fun and therefore a combat CG not to just bounty hunt, but to turn in Thargoid bounties and hearts. That would work but again alongside the development CG rather than instead of it.

Can't you fight the Thargoids, just collect the materials and bring them to the CG?
There is an issue there. You could and do this multiple time, and never make it into the higher reward tiers as 1 unit of Thargoid tissue sample is worth as much as 1 unit of [insert random trade item easily obtainable within 1 jump] so the risk/reward balance is wrong as is the need/reward balance.

But you were included, everyone active Commander in Open, in Groups and in Solo was invited as they are for every CG. You, and you alone, decided you didn't want to participate because it didn't fit your playing style. End of Story

I did participate, in every one. I just didn't like it but thought it necessary.

why not have content for all?
is there some sort of limit to the playstyles on offer that it would offend you if I got to combat to advance the story?

Sooo, as we come to the end of another yawnfest week of "cart random crap" cg's,
can we now please have some content for the 6-7000 combat pilots which the cg left home for the last fortnight or so?

Or are you seriously expecting trade pilots who benefit little from developing anti thargoid combat weapons to advance the script,
whilst ignoring the target audience completely?

The day I befoul my combat ships with cargo holds will just never come.

So because there is no combat CG there is no content for combat pilots this week? :|

Wouldn't offend me, but if combat was used to develop new tech then we would obviously need to see the Thargoid armada defeated by delivering exploration data too.

Think you just need to accept that getting the tools to enable a "stop the Thargoids" CG needs to come first.

There could be a lot better in CGs but it is what it is currently and needs work as do associated missions. Let's hope this is a QOL development next year rather than just new ships.

Going to reply to you since those 3 replies are pretty much the same. btw would love Thargoid invasion, but right now we are in the building and research phase of things. The tech people can salvage or invent new tech to help us out that's why they need supplies. Once they are done I'm sure the fighting isn't over by far but again we need to research the tools to be the most effective. Cant kill a rhino with a BB gun or maybe you can but would be most effective with a big gun.

This thread tl;dr version :
We got our tanks through the Villers Bocage countryside, why on earth should we need the Red Ball Express to supply us with anything?

The mentality of combat pilots is hilarious.
