The FAStasctic FAS :)

If you use gimballed weapons you can mitigate that split top/bottom by getting a wide angle sensor mod.

I don't believe those sensors have anything to do with gimalled weapons tracking at all. The sensors you are talking about only resolve a target, not track them.

An FdL is a Muscle Car, while the FAS is like a TR-6. The FdL will win a drag race, and put on a good 'smoke show', while the FAS drives rings around it on the road. I know I'd rather have agility to speed in a fight. My FdL collects dust, I'd rather fly a Cliper, and I don't even own one.

Still not quite seeing it (I'm probably the biggest Lamborghini nerd here). The FAS lacks that exotic feel that all Lambos have. It's more utilitarian. Plus, not even the Espada came with two coffee makers.

Ok bad analogy. Is this guy's better? I'm trying to explain how the FAS is agile, but don't let your guard down, or someone will blow you up.

After collecting dust for too long, I've finally been using my Fairly Agile Ship again and I love it. Recently I've tried the FDL again (lots has changed in the game since my 1st go'round, including the cockpit which I like much more than the original - feels less off-center and a great view in all directions), but I find the FAS fits better into my style of combat piloting. I'd say you've spent your Credits wisely. Congrats, OP.

I love everything about the FAS expect the hardpoint placements.
It's really hard to keep all the guns firing while in a dogfight.
That's why I sold it in the end to get a FDL, but will surely pick one up again at some time.

Not really. Bought the FDL beforehand and wasted money on it (10% purchase price lost). But I think I get what you mean, as in, money well spent on something you like.

Use the small windows in front of you to line up all your guns on the target, and use gimballed. All will hit, but you got to pretend your firing fixed.

None of which protects exterior subsystems like hardpoints and thrusters.

That's what protection modules are for.

As others have said, ever since certain ships got additional bonus module slots specifically for hull/module protection, the FAS has really come into its own.

Honestly, I keep the FAS around as little more than a curiosity. I don't really need it, since I have a Corvette, Battleconda, BattleCutter, FdL, Python, and Vulture, but I also never sell ships (except taxis).

Given the Vulture is the only one in that list that isn't a generic 'big five' ship, I'd hazard a guess that the reason you don't get on so well with the FAS is because it's not really in your category of style.

My early days combat rank printer. Havent tried it post-engineers tho. Got some coin to spare so why not.

If you haven't tried it post-engineers, then I guess you haven't tried it since it got the extra 2x size 4 military slots that can be used for hull/module protection on top of its standard internal slots?

Those extra slots alone make the FAS awesome, throw in some sensible engineer rolls and the thing is now a monster.

Haha, I used mine for the first time in months a few days ago and had a surprising amount of fun. Only downside was, seemed like every other ship I fought was also a FAS. Dunno if that was intentional or not...

The FAS was the first ship that really clicked with me. It was a great mission runner, I did everything in that ship. She could get me in and out trouble with ease and carry a decent amount of cargo.

Sadly, I sold her to pay for Python and while I like the Python, I missed my FAS.

I just rebought one and I'm working on engineering her. Taking my time.

Oh, and I named her FAS Freddie... :D

See, now I've got Freddie FASbear stuck in my head....

Gutamayan elegance far trumps the dirty Core Dynamics ships.

You'll sleep well in a Gutamayan ship in Luxury, rather than a bunk bed on a Core Dynamics ship.

But does your ship have a inbuilt disco (fancy warning lights)? Or a co pilot camera, the interview someone in front of?

Not saying gutamaya ships don't look nice, buy core dynamics has their own unique features, and can land on a medium pad (compared to clipper say). Oh, and you don't stick to the paint work ;).

If frontier released some interior shots, I'd be able to confirm!

Currently only the bridge's are rendered.

Seems like a lot of love for the FAS. I've been thinking about a FAS or FGS to replace my Vulture for bounty hunting. If anyone has experience with both the Assault Ship and Gunship, which do you prefer?

These are my two go-to combat ships and all I fly for a few weeks now. I haven't been flying the gunship that long but I have it fully G5 engineered and I've settled on a pve layout. The difference between the two is that the FAS is a surgical instrument to the FGS's Warhammer. The FGS is much slower (I have a good G5 DD roll, 137% and I boost 400 with 2.5 puppies to engines, the FAS with same pips boosts 510) but the FGS still more maneuverable than a python, especially fa off, and the firepower is just nuts. 7 hardpoints allows you to carry two completely different loadouts, I use rails and PAs primarily on both ships, but the FGS also has a large beam and a pair of seekers for small ships. I run a biweave with a good thermal resist on the FGS, whereas I run shieldless in the FAS, this is simply a function of the reduced maneuverability, you will get hit more in the FGS, so the shield should just be thought of as a 200mj 'heal' every 30 secs, and as such it works well (shield charges from dead in 19 secs). I also carry a dual fighter bay. This combination makes the gunship amazing at fighting multiple contacts. The FAS is the ultimate one on one dogfighter.

For pve fun and versatility, I'd have to say the FGS, the fighter bay and 7 hardpoints is just mad.

I like them both... The FGS load out is fun to play with and with a fighter she is great fun. The FAS is a great fighter, very well balanced.
