lol Imperial Cutter

Golden Rule of flying a Cutter: NEVER boost towards a mail slot. When you arrive next to a station, just use regular thrust.

I always boost when I exit SC on my way to the station. Of course, before dropping from SC, I make sure that when I drop, I will be directly facing the slot. Then, immediately after boosting, I apply full reverse thrusters. I can always slow down under the speed limit before getting to the slot.

I didn't just miss the mailslot - I missed the entire Station. That's a first. Not kidding.

8A Thrusters installed for my first / maiden Station landing.

Spent the rest of the night engineering the Weapons, Shields, Boosters and Dirty Drives.

Now it boosts to 502 and I haven't even engineered it for weight yet.

I thought I was a T9 ace pilot - but man that Cutter drift is something else.

Why don't we see more NPC cutters in the game? They are all slowly turning in supercruise to find an instance.

I've been hunting a RES with my Cutter past few days...the drift through the large floating rocks of doom is hilarious. boost, FA off, spin, drift backwards through the rocks....boost, chase, kill, repeat. adds a little excitement. =) Trying to fly it like a fighter hasn't worked great, but sure fun trying to.

On the bright side, if you do ram a station in a cutter, you won't feel it thanks to those impenetrable shields.

Heck, people have rammed planets in their cutter and not felt it.

Haha. At least I can hit the station. I'm a better pilot than you because I faceplanted a station in my Conda a couple nights ago.:D

I accidentally boosted out of a station in my python earlier on. Scared a number 2 out of me, but luckily I reacted well enough that I only scraped the paintwork off.

Doesn't matter if you hit, miss, or succeed, you still need a new pair of pants afterwards.

You can boost towards the mail slot. The drift can be used with FA off wonderfully. Use a HOTAS to get the feel of the Cutter. Then you can drift, line up and then boost into the next position.

It is for these reasons that my Cutter is the only ship I have ever had that I use a DC on and I make no apologies for it.

Other than that I love it! :D

I am very confused, why does a high boost speed ship require a docking computer? And how did OP miss the station? I can't see how speed would affect your ability to... ah... oh, I think I just got it whilst writing this. You don't obey the speed limits, do you? Okay, I think I understand now XD Derpaderp me.

I think your the only one here who does obey the speed limit, without a docking computer.

Just bought into the Cutter club tonight. I love the Anaconda because you can swing the back end out and drift it. Tried to apply the same theory to the Cutter.

Yeah, don't do that.

The big lump can literally fly sideways.

It's drift is second to none, but just like anything dangerous people shouldn't be doing in the first place, if you fly it long enough you'll find yourself doing things that make little sense in such an unwieldy beast, like trying to sneak down and dock at a surface station while wanted. Speed docking planet-side while avoiding scans is more akin to hitting a bullseye from a distance than anything else - no last-minute adjustments make any real difference, regardless of skill. Of course only after the fact does it dawn on you that pretty much any other ship would have been a smarter choice, and realization does nothing to discourage bad life choices because you love that fat old girl too much to switch.

I couldn't get to grips with the bigger ships - flying Vulture and AspX for a very long time. Tried Python,FDL and Conda and even though they had room and firepower I just couldn't get used to flying through molasses.

So I went with the goat method and bought a Cutter.

Now my Python and FDL are such nimble beasts!

Flying Cutter is like

Practice in real life for flying any ship into a station dock (not my work):

I was using my Python last night, running around unlocked a few more engineers and stuff, after piloting a Cutter pretty much none-stop for 2 weeks my Python feels like my iEagle to fly, super responsive and nimble, click boost and pretty much instantly going flat out etc!
