Wow! The Orca

If I was going to purchase an Orca that was optimized for doing 2-3 ~300ly sight-seeing missions at a time how does this build look to all of you Orca enthusiasts/experts? (estimating engineered parts with random rolls on coriolis) :D

I'd do this: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/orc...oBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=&bn=Mount Assiniboine

Sure, you'll trade some top boost speed for 2 more light years of jump, but you'll also be spending 90% of your time in Super Cruise anyways.

Thanks! Makes the build even less expensive as well.

Indeed - and with just a little weight tuning: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/orc...oBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=&bn=Mount Assiniboine

A 40 Ly jump in an Orca is nothing to scoff at.

You could also bump that Distributor a bit like this: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/orc...oBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=&bn=Mount Assiniboine

And to really kill the cost of this build:

Buy the Orca at Ailoth, take it as-is to Jameson Memorial and outfit it there. That's a 20% savings on the hull and 10% on the modules. It makes a huge difference.

I'd go for something like this: https://eddp.co/u/47pQDmD7
Slightly slower, but still fast enough to run past the cops at the station. Larger range. Less overall power, thermal optimized modules. Still keep one heatsink just in case someone manages to start a scan.
And maybe throw a SRV into the mix.

Oh I wish I could unlock Lori Jameson to lighten the life support but I am not that into combat so it won't happen anytime soon. I tend to only do defensive combat. Like when a Hauler dares to interdict my kitted out Type-9! I wish there were another engineer who offered life support modifications like that. I think I have the mats to lighten the sensors though so I will add that to my to-do list.

I don't have the Alioth permit yet but I do have Elite in Exploration so I'll just purchase everything in Jameson Memorial. If I wanted I could get the hull for 15% off at a Li Yong-Rui system. Maybe I should look into the Alioth permit though as 20% is a nice discount!

Thanks for the tips! I think I'm going to trade my Beluga for an Orca tonight and increase my bank balance by a good 100MCr.

This is my speed demon. Well armed, shielded, and very fast in normal space. I have zero problems getting those pesky criminal/secretive VIPs in and out of stations.

I also have the detailed planetary scanner tuned for fast scanning so I don't have to sit there forever...

I'm currently on my way back from two LR passenger missions that are about 11klys out. One is paying 30 million, the other 20. Hopefully, with that money plus all the exploration data I've got, I'll finally hit Elite in Exploration. If not, I'll go back to doing those sightseeing missions, which usually earn me about 3-4% gain.

Bill Turner can do light-weight Life support up to grade 3, vs. Lori's grade 4. It's not that big of a difference. Also, Bill is in Alioth, so there is another reason to get that system permit...

Yep, that's what I did. I think. I may have flown it (or had it shipped) to an LYR system that had all the equipment I wanted for it.

Hey thanks for the tip! I didn't notice that. Yeah I have Selene unlocked so that's a good plan. I'll probably unlock Alioth and this engineer after I get my Orca but it's on my to-do list now.

Bill Turner can do Grade 3 life support mods - yet another good reason to unlock Ailoth. He's a bit of a bear to unlock - mine 50 tons of Bromelliite.. not a daunting task, but can be time-consuming. Actually had an easier time of mining 10 tons of Painite for Selene Jean than all that Bromellite, and had to head back to the station for more limpets with 49 tons of Bromellite in my hold. At least it's not terribly interesting to pirates.

I thought I was the only one. Love my Orca - the Dark Star. Have been using it for scientific study of all things Thargoid and some of the Ancient Ruins quests since they buffed its jump range. At 45Ly jump range now (fully equipped with srv etc) and currently boost to 610m/s its such an agile ship, runs cool, can smuggle wanted VIP's, run circles around angry Thargoids, one of the best stopping ships, great super cruise manners, its just simply a joy to fly and why it is one of the main ships I use a lot.

Just did this! :)

First trip, was about 26K Ly round trip, total payout was approx. 78M credits. Second trip was about 33K Ly round trip, total payout was approx. 88M credits. I could have made more, but I was picky about what systems/worlds I scanned.

I've gotten so used to being outside the bubble that I am seriously considering taking my Exploraorca out for a month or so. 413/524 speed demon with 44.6Ly jump range. That's good enough for me. :D

Flew an orca for a while, was really surprised how well it flies honestly for such a pretty big ship, wasn't expecting at all for it to turn or fly as fast as it could

Haven't flown a dolphin yet though, is it also really fast/nimble despite being a passenger ship?

With grd 3 DD, it's almost difficult to control. I think with grd 5, you'd be spazmodically crashing into everything.:D

Orca is a good ship. I explored all the way to the Horse Head nebula in one. When I got back, she looked like she had been through an acid bath, but she made me lots and lots of exploration money and increased my exploration rank to Pioneer. My only problem with the Orca is it's rather weak defensive capability. 3 hard points? But then it is a luxury liner not an armed freighter or combat courier. For what it is, it's a great ship. A combat ship it's not, but for hauling passengers or exploring in style, It's about the best bang for the credit.

The Orca's defensive measures are installed in the thruster housing. :D

Handles like a dream with DD5s.

I havent done the fast scan on the scanner yet but I think you just convinced me to go do that. :)
