Star Citizen Discussions v7

And don't give me that "ramping up" rubbish. The programmers Bioware folded in weren't up to speed with ME:A when they joined the team. The artists Bioware folded in weren't up to speed with ME:A when they joined the team. The PM's Bioware folded in weren't up to speed with ME:A when they joined the team.

Which is the main problem of ME:A. A pity.

Yes, let's look at that. A sprawling space epic that took 5 years to publish: SC is barely an alpha after 6 years.

Unless you're a drooling imbecile you don't hire people who don't know what they are doing. I've been a consultant who worked internationally: If I can't get my head around a problem 5 timezones away inside of 10 minutes, I don't eat.

Or maybe you don't understand IT?

Heck, EA staff admitted ME:A went to development hell and the final game was ultimately made in 18 months. It was rather disappointing, but at least they manage to get a game out that you can play and get some fun out. EA can pump out ME:5 and ME:6 is they wanted in the time Dreamer hopes SC releases. Who even cares about a non-vr cry-engine game in 2023?!

"Wow, check this! I am flying a spaceship with my mouse while looking at my 1080p monitor! And since the latest patch in nov 2023 we even get 60FPS!"

Pc gaming saved indeed...

Name a game that was perfect on release (The original Deus Ex is cheating).

I quite liked ME:A, but bear in mind I'm weird and like PowerPlay. [ugh]

Well, W3 wasn't perfect on release, hence the patches. But yeah, ME:A wasnt in a great condition upon release.

Well, it was perfectly playable for me to be stunned by it's perfection - AND it improved even more with patches and the brilliant DLC to reach divine spheres of gaming history.

Yeah, i am that much a fanboy.

Witcher 3. Horizons Zero Dawn. Persona 5. And many, many others.

You asked!

And of course the Souls games, how could i forget!

I'll give you two out of three. Just because I've not played Persona (sorry).
But, Dude: Dark Souls???

Oh man! I did add this before i saw your post!

Yes, you are baddies, and you have managed to steer the direction in this thread only towards the negative, and pushed away the people that had something good to say.

Okay. You have the floor sir. Let's hear some positive feedback about this whole project.
And not the usual "pie-in-the-sky" wishes, hopes, dreams, fantasies, jpeg ships, and electronic land claims, but actual concrete facts about this "game" besides 6 years and 160 million dollars.

What new tactic? That's just my estimation, and it doesn't ring any alarm bells, for me at least. Star Citizen is known that is going to take a long time until release, no surprises there, and I've known this since 2014.

That is odd, because CR didn't know. Or he did and he was lying. The website claimed 2014 until the end of 2014. It claimed 2015 until the end of 2015. It claimed 2016 until the end of 2016. Now they dont claim anything anymore because we all know they are full of garbage. :) Its also fun how all SC fans always knew it would apparantly take til 2023(!), but never told anyone. :D

Weird how that works. Like its weird how you keep dodging the obviously false 'predictions' from CR himself, who is both the Great Visionary and Mastermind yet apparantly doesnt know the difference between days, weeks and decades. Fun stuff!

Again completely missing the point. It's nothing to do with being "forced", it's about a company offering DLC that costs $850.

DLC's are by definition content locked behind a paywall. These ships that cost so much now will be available for in game cash at release, so no paywall.

"CIG told us AFTER THE SCOPE EXTENDED that we'd have 40 stations and a dozen planets within weeks" Where did you get this from? Since 2014 I've seen some overly optimistic promises, but not on this scale. These kinds of mistakes of over-promising have pretty much disappeared in the last year or so, to be honest, just by watching the ATV's. Now the fact remains that we have to wait, and that's about it. Game development is no pizza making, there is no comparison between the two. A pizza takes minutes to prepare, a game years, different scales completely.

Knowing that this will take time, no matter what we say, I guess we'll find out who is correct eventually. I prefer to stay on the positive side, since I would rather have an awesome space game eventually, even if late, rather than not all.

That is pointless for me to do. Look for the SC channel and watch the ATV's, loremakers guide to the galaxy, and whatever else you want.

It feels like déjà vu saying something like this again so soon, but perhaps you should send your CV to FDEV. I'm sure you could clear the "space legs" thing right up.

You jest...but at the same time, you don't seem to realise that game wise, there is very little difference between the SRV and "space legs". If FDev replaced the SRV with a humanoid m
model of your avatar and adjusted the speed and handling appropriately, what do you think the difference would be?

Tell that to the pirates in Southeast Asia. They once stole an entire supertanker for the fuel it carried.

Read that "for the fuel" part again.

Sorry, but you dont really follow this game much. Its a pretty well known quote from Citizencon 2016, where they also presented the roadmap of all 3.x patches. He promised the entire Stanton system, and explicitly mentioned 12 planets, fully landable, + 40-50 stations or some such. He also said it was pretty much fully done already, only needed some polish, and it will come in weeks. He even joked he hoped they didnt have to wait till the last day of december 2016. He claimed the sandworm was real and not scripted, even though it was later found out (as we all assumed) it most definitely was 100% scripted. According to the schedule we would now be at 3.4, with all gameploops fully in place, with Q4 seeing the first release of multiple other completed systems. In januari 2017 they suddenly claimed they almost had the 'planning stage' done for 3.0 (huh, werent they already done?). In Q2 2017 they had the production schedule which promised it, again, in six weeks. They kept extending this deadline with 1-2 weeks every 1-2 weeks, until they removed the ETA after a few months. All 3.x patches are now fully removed from the schedule.

We know development is hard, we know it takes time, we know unexpected things happen. But CR was simply lying, as he has been doing for years. Its plain to see. And that is what irritates people so much, and that is why we dont believe yet another fancy cool video. We've been there every few months of every year, and every time it turns out he is simply lying. Some tend to forget and 'keep the faith'. Others dont.

Indeed. There was a time that saying the game would release in 2020 was guaranteed to wind up the subreddit, people used to say 2020 and it this tongue in cheek jest. So strange to think that 2024 is apparently more of a realistic outlook...

It isn't.

Maybe for the game that people want, but I don't think the money they have is going to last that long.
