Have you ever played Star Citizen?
Original Kickstarter.
The flight model sucked, there are no game loops, let alone any form of persistence, and my computer, which could run Fallout Four with all the bells and whistles, could barely run it. Gamescom 2017 was the final straw for me, and I asked for, and received, my money back.
I've Kickstarted a lot of games over the years, and only one other game, besides Star Citizen, has yet to go live within a year of their original estimate. Coincidentally, it was also a game I pledged to in 2012. That game has its basic game loops in place, a Sims-like AI system were I could could spend hours watching the characters go about their day, and with each update, the game gets better.
If Star Citizen had demonstrated this level of improvement, I would consider my original pledge as money well spent. Unfortunately, after six years of development and three years past its original release date, all Chris Roberts has delivered is one barely functional tech demo, plus a long series of nice looking jpegs.
