Star Citizen Discussions v7

I always find it curious that the drama about SC is bigger than the drama in the tech demo.
People get upset about criticism over a video game.
I'd rather laugh about it than get upset.

If/When CIG fails it won't be anyone at CIGs fault it will be the fans fault for not believing, for asking for refunds, the fault of negative fake news... and they were so close to releasing with the next 12 months honest...
I do wonder if t'old Trump and Roberts are the same alien.

Oh no, when it fails it'll be totally my fault. Because I said disparaging things about it here and everyone knows my words are all powerful. That is why the Knights of Roberts are here to slay me and ensure my words end.

Don't be ridiculous. Everyone around here knows that it's all T.J.'s fault!

Chris has dissed other games including ED while copying marketing and elements of the game without any questions or punity from media or backers.

This talk about why we don't respect him is nonsense - he has earned it. There's so much on him in this debate that it is not even funny.

Only way I see how SC can move forward is to distance themselves from CR, take current base and try to make it work as possible and release MVP.

Anyway, all this post Citizencon discussion is waste of time. It is same old, people still not recognising failing project and not asking any questions, while we play game which gets endlessly attacked for just existing way it is. Going in circles.

Star Citizen: Going in circles since 2014™.

Going in circles.

Yep, looks like that's true. I guess we'll find out if its a failed project no matter if we chat about it here or not. Its all up to them, and I hope they succeed. I also hope that in time you will get more optimistic and polite about it, and would welcome more positive discussions about the game. I think its worth being exited about it, and maybe some day I will be proven right and we will share here our unique experiences from the SC universe (maybe even make a SC organization, the Elite Optimists :D)

Fly safe, Commanders! o7

Good luck with that, there's a federation of elite pilots org but most have simply got bored or refunded. It's odd because it still shows my account as being part of the group but I've refunded and my account is closed. What do orgs actually do these days in Star Citizen as it stands?

Cheers,
i'd love nothing more than being proven wrong about my pessimism towards SC (and some parts of ED)!

Personally I can promise I wont be more polite about people lying in my face. But lets wait and see, if SC ever becomes an enjoyable game you wont hear any complaints from me! :)

Good design comes from balancing your dreams with what is technically possible on the target platform.

And sc with all it's promised features has been impossible since the alleged scope change poll...

I have referred to this thread before but everytime people talk about the technical difficulty to make sc I remembered this

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/getting-cargo-right

Nevermind an mmo with high fidelity visual, I don't think a SP can have that complexity especially when you realize there are still other 90% of gameplay mechanics and systems (with equal or even more complexity) that MUST be able to get integrated together into the game with that.

And then as many have said it before, that kind of never been done before (for real in this case) game need to come out from a developer that, after 6 years still unable to stop ships in their own game to wobble against the landing pad, or to make ramps on their ships functioning properly and other amateurish kind of game development issues.

On what basis do we have to believe that this game can come out?

Buy a Bengal!

Who else think or feel that they are going to sell the bengals for real money in the future?

For a $5000 a piece, a limited edition Bengal is yours!

There is nothing wrong to be exited about the game...thats OK but sometimes can affect your realistic point of view.....Look I am a backer 2 and I want to play&enjoy SC as well but clearly there are some issues that NEED to be discussed and thats what we are doing in here....Different opinions are always welcome so pls. feel free to always express yourself Commando!!!

There's nothing wrong with dreaming.

FD wants space legs and atmosphere planets too. They however want it also playable game first.

That's huge difference between these two projects I guess.

Kerrash doesn't need to elaborate on how CIG's executive see the world around them, they have enshrined it in their corporate statements for Year Ended 2016 and I quote (page 1, para 6):

"The key business risks affecting the Company are competition in the market place, reduction in market demand and the cost of publishing and development resource required for delivering the game."

One interpretation of that could be that the Company is struggling because of competition (Elite Dangerous/NMS) who are obviously out to get us, our backers won't give us enough money i.e. not buying enough Idrisi/Pioneers and our staff won't work for free. What lovely sentiments...

Have you ever played Star Citizen?

Original Kickstarter.

The flight model sucked, there are no game loops, let alone any form of persistence, and my computer, which could run Fallout Four with all the bells and whistles, could barely run it. Gamescom 2017 was the final straw for me, and I asked for, and received, my money back.

I've Kickstarted a lot of games over the years, and only one other game, besides Star Citizen, has yet to go live within a year of their original estimate. Coincidentally, it was also a game I pledged to in 2012. That game has its basic game loops in place, a Sims-like AI system were I could could spend hours watching the characters go about their day, and with each update, the game gets better.

If Star Citizen had demonstrated this level of improvement, I would consider my original pledge as money well spent. Unfortunately, after six years of development and three years past its original release date, all Chris Roberts has delivered is one barely functional tech demo, plus a long series of nice looking jpegs.

This time, the stream was much more technically proficient and subdued. There's a slight chance that CIG has finally figured out the ultimate weapon against goons: boredom. :p

Goons ruin everything!

There wasn't much to laugh at unless you didn't particularly care for Lando's beard or the amazing hairstyles from the Frankfurt team.

e: I should mention I was banned from Twitch chat...they must have had a hit list!

You're right: boredom is the answer. We tried to have fun in the VerseCon stream yesterday and it was impossible, due to the fact there were more presenters than audience members. It was Olympic level boredom.
