Where have they all gone?

Maybe I've just not been paying attention but I've seen approximately zero threads complaining about griefing since Standard Beta began.

Are the security services and station defences that effective?

The "Unidentified Signal Source" and "Combat Area" locations are no longer fixed. There are much more scattered randomly all over the systems. And the possibility of someone waiting for you is not very high.

Also, Beta 1 is fresh, everyone is enjoying all the new stuff. Wait some weeks, maybe someone will get bored (and have big derp ships). Or FD will keep pushing fast updates and everyone will be happy. :D

Space is a lot bigger now and people are more spread out. Also I dare say some people are now "playing" (you should be testing it you naughty people!) the game more as they would when the full release comes out. It makes a nice change though that's for sure.

it is just that i have not been playing much. just sit back an wait til after the weekend :p

but yeah good point well made. as always there is little point in getting your knickers in a twist about things that are... well in transition.

Everyone is playing solo. :D

Only complaints I have seen so far is from the people that have no player targets to attack...
I still don't understand why I should play solo. I feel much more comfortable seeing fellow commanders get vaporized by stationd defenses! :D

The carebears playing solo, thats the reason. At the moment the MP mode is very empty, sadly.

I think peeps will play solo for a while then many will migrate into multiplayer when they feel confident to do so, its working out just like DB expected as far as I can see.

im always in the open , even as mostly a trader. Some want it easy and are not just that social , i like such parts of game , like chatting , talking and pvp and such. wich ofcourse is not bad this game provides options for that. im more for open sandbox gameplay myself. no need to call them carebears or whataver

i dont feel its empty tho , i see lots of other cmdr and have even cool convos and such. and even some nice pvp brawls , so not bad at all

It's always been quieter post wipe and much more violent towards the end of a major release cycle.

As people get a decent amount of money, either through hard work or new exploits being found and propagated, their propensity for violence increases with their disposable income.

There's another reason for playing* solo at the moment that I've yet to see anyone mention - it's a lot more stable.

*testing

Police forces are very effective - Maxeren tried this very first day and he was vaporized in few secs.

I won't be able to play this weekend, but my guess when majority of players will sweep in. So we will see more wider test of griefing deterrent system very soon.

As for people playing solo - it is very hard to tell without actual numbers, only FD knows - 50 systems are kinda huge. But as I said, wait for the weekend.

IIRC, there was a poll that suggested about a third of people were playing solo.

I play the online mode. Went to fed distress beacon last night, chose Eranin and there was a player already there on fed side. I decided to see if my combat skills were improving and they are as I won.
