Where is the post-FX communication?

I can't tell if you're joking or not. Expecting any kind of liquid lakes or oceans, or even the beginnings of atmospheric worlds in 2018 seems like you're just setting yourself up for some serious heartbreak.

Ask yourself, what content could frontier drop that you would be happy to pay for?

They announced all the free content at the expo... the dino vid was a good indication of what we will see in the new Elite Beyond content.

Because when something is shown people feel they have been promised and jump on devs when something is taken back.

Paradox aren't in space games and space game community is ....interesting to say at least. Only more drama can be found in car sim community.

That's a bit of an understatement :D

We are not getting earthlike planets in the beyond series of update. But we do know that there will be paid for premium content coming during the beyond series of updates, probably dropping at the same time as the Q4 update. I suspect that this will be very basic atmospheric planets or interactive Gas Giants. But we will have to pay extra for it.

Q1 Beyond paid for content. Q2 space legs so you can walk upto the dino and pat it.

Beyond Q1 is free if you have horizons. All of the beyond stuff is free if you have horizons.

Yep. If I had to hazard a guess as to what the paid DLC will be in 2018, I'd bet on landing permits for both Gas Giants and Volcanic Worlds, two basic types of atmospheric planets.

Shortly before Frontier Expo, there was a thread in which Dale, in all his amazing communication and input to the community here, mentioned that following the expo, Frontier would be more communicative. We're a few weeks beyond the expo now and nothing seems to have changed.

There's no consistent communication of goals and plans, no new initiatives to demonstrate players are being heard and their concerns addressed. The newsletters remain void of any meaty development-related news, instead remaining focused on community goals and store highlights. There's no developer diaries discussing the trials and tribulations of delivering such a complex game. It's just the same old silence we've had for a year now.

So what happened? Where is the communication we were told would arrive after Frontier Expo? When is Frontier going to get serious about interfacing with their community of fans outside of tightly-controlled marketing arenas?

The best predictor of future behaviour is.. wait for it.. past behaviour..

In other words things aren't likely to change.

At the risk of drifting off topic like a Dropship, what's the point of fly through the atmosphere of a gas giant? Collecting gasses to sell? I'd much prefer they prioritize atmospheric landable planets, as I'd enjoy the current terrain and SRV gameplay with nice atmospheric effects (especially if they can model some rudimentary weather). I'm not talking ELWs, but planets and moons like current-day Mars.

Gas giants are perfect from stepping stone role - they have cloudy atmospheres, but no hard surface. Gameplay wise gas mining was in DDF, in very detailed way btw. Also dogfighting in clouds could add interesting place to fight. Both of those topics have been actively mentioned by David. I suspect they work on them (well, at tech level).

As for primitive atmosphere planets I think they will arrive prior or in same time with gas giants. FD seems to be building towards that with Beyond.

What the point of landing on atmospheric planets?

Possible gameplay for Gas Giants:
Fuel Scooping
Gas Mining (will go hand in hand with the new mining updates)
Res sites (even though I hate res sites, combat in these areas could be amazing)
Deep Gas Mining station within the upper atmosphere of the gas giant (Bespin cloud city in Empire Strikes back sort of thing)
Cloud storms etc.
Life within the gas giant clouds could have interesting gameplay

The using the tech they have worked out for gas giants, they use it for planets with a thicker atmosphere.
By doing gas giants first, they can build there tech level for better things.

It make a logical preogression path on the tech they will need going forward.

Are you basing that off the expo? Where they said all this announced content thats coming in the Beyond series of updates will be free to Horizons?

Do you seriously think they have announced all thats is coming in Q1 launch of Beyond? They only announced the QoL content thats free to Horizons.

Yes, but Beyond covers improvements, both base game and Horizons.

Then the Q1 Beyond launch will be very boring if you are right. Which I dont think you are. Frontier doesnt work like that. We havent seen any of the Beyond content I believe.

It will be boring for those expecting new shiny things. Those have been hinted at the end of 2018 (and that's all we know basically).

I am sure there will be more than what they have announced, but it will still be a apart of the beyond series of updates and won't be paid for if you have horizons.

The paid for stuff will be later in the year unless you think we will be getting paid for new content every quarter.

I very much doubt that.

5 months before Q1 drop. I cant see them spending the next 5 months just doing galnet voice and a couple of new ships.

Read the post from Dale.... It says some of the new things coming in Beyond. Part of whats coming. I guess if you keep your expectations low then you will be very happy when you go dino hunting.

Not necessarily. I am really looking forward to the improved planet tech. Having the enigineers worked on will be good too, plus the new ships and the personal narative and the new Galnet. It is what a lot of players have been clamouring for, for ages. Updates to the core gameplay areas.

I am also hoping that Combat Zones and Res sites get a serious makeover too, but that hasn't been advertised.

We will not be getting earth like planets anytime soon. That will take years to do. You will be disapointed if you think it is coming.
